It spent time building up characters and their stories, but I felt it didn't use them to their maximum and didn't deliver on many of those stories.

LeMarchand Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Bait (Prime Video) When unknown actor Shah Latif (Riz Ahmed) blows his audition to be the next Bond he decides to drum up some publicity by ignoring instructions not to walk out of the front door where the paparazzi are. This action does get him a second shot, but will he be able to pay the price? Starts off quite well but goes down the "mental health" path and some of the stuff Shah does makes it hard to root for him. Riz Ahmed does make a convincing "Bond" though. I'd love it if this was a backdoor announcement.

I'd love it if this was a backdoor announcement. We absolutely loved this. Smart, funny and clever in plenty of ways. Patrick Stewart was glorious as the pig. He'd make a cracking bond!

Sophie Turner stars as a worker at a finance firm which is the target of an armed gang who seem to know exactluy how to make off with 4 billion pounds. Quite a tense thriller with some good twists. Worth a watch but I'm not sure how it is an ongoing series.
LeMarchand Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Monarch Season 2 on Apple TV. Apart from a short mid-season slump I found this a marked improvement on Season 1. A little concerned that a) timey wimey stuff seems to be coming to the fore and b) that the penultimate scene of the "basement crew" being set up suggests that they may be cutting the budget a bit. It's gonna be difficult for poor old Tim being stuck in a basement with four gorgeous women. 2
ICTDirect_Dave Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Tip Toe on Channel 4. Russell T. Davies' five-part story is an absolute masterpiece. At times a tough watch, and harrowing in places. It is one of the best-written shows I've seen. Alan Cumming and David Morrissey are magnificent in the leading roles, and you will struggle to believe the two are, in fact, lifelong friends. Go watch it!
LeMarchand Posted June 24 Posted June 24 (edited) Started Tomorrow (Netflix), a Korean show about a team of not-so-grim reapers, a while ago on a recommendation. It was good but I wasn't really loving it and it somehow dropped off our wishlist. We've recently been catching up and I was still feeling "good, but could be better". Until we got to Episode 8 "A Soul Becomes a Star", about a Korean War vet. I see the military as an unfortunately necessary evil and don't get the whole "our boys" stuff so I wasn't expecting much from the episode. The start showed a side of Korea you rarely see - the chap's income comes from collecting and reselling kerbside trash - then we learned about the his lonely and harsh life through which he still managed to keep going. But the end! I'm not ashamed to say there were tears. Edited June 24 by LeMarchand

I'd be happy to watch a second season but wouldn't cry if it didn't happen. Ghosts (Australia) (iPlayer) Better than the trailer made in look but only seen the first ep. This seems to be trying to steal Doc Martin's "UK show most remade in other territories" crown. As well as this and the fairly well known US version there are also French, German and Greek versions. For some reason the German one doesn't have a WWII officer. Lanterns (HBO Max) Really surprised at how good the first ep was. Can't wait to find out what happened between 2016 and 2026 and what will happen next. Edited August 18 by LeMarchand

Also, Season 1 of Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda is getting uploaded to YouTube a couple of episodes a week (I think by the official channel), so been watching those. It generally holds up pretty well.
