LeMarchand Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Finished Paradise Season 2. Found it as gripping as the first season in its own way but missed the focus on the "city" stuff. I can see why people found Ep4 so moving but my personal circumstances meant it wasn't as engaging for me (I thought the bit with the horse was more moving than the other stuff, especially Xavier's "wonders of children" monologues). I didn't think the reveal at the end of Ep8 was as unexpected as some found it as there were hints laid in Ep3. Lots of nitpicks of the show but still looking forward to the final season... unless it's going to turn out to be "too big to fit into one season so we are doing two, or may three or maybe four"*. *Or as many as we can if you lot keep watching.

empty Posted April 28 Posted April 28 The Boys latest season actually had me stop watching after about episode 3 I think... I might try and carry on, but it's really not doing it for me anymore. Also just heard Gen V may have been cancelled. Tried to get back into The Doom Patrol, but a couple of the characters really bug me. It's on an 'if there's nothing else' list... Watson just feels a little too American (which is surprising for me as that's normally my jam) and formulaic... saving the day... every week... with gratuitous shirt off scenes... Starfleet Academy just got a little bit to 'teen' for my taste (also the gratuitous shirt off scenes reminded me it probably isn't really written for my demographic).

I'm sticking with Boys as I want to see it end but agree its lost its appeal now... never watched season 2 of Gen V I forgot I started Doom Patrol after it appeared on the new Sky bit... love Breandan Frasiers character

LeMarchand Posted May 16 Posted May 16 The Good Omens finale was quite sweet, with a nice tribute to Terry Pratchett (but not Neil Gaiman, for some reason... ). The penultimate scene in the pub didn't make much sense but, if they were going to do that, it's a shame they didn't have the budget to get people from earlier seasons back. Otherwise a good ending. I wonder if there would have been more "Jesus" bits had they had more episodes but the only bit that felt rushed was the "kiss and make up".

So far, looks to be interesting. (Apparently, they're finishing it with season 5, so hopefully some big revelations this season.)

In terms of getting the rest of the cast back, it was difficult. The long filming delay meant many were no longer under contract and were working on other projects. Other storylines had to be cut to streamline the plot into a film's length, and others (if you believe the rumour mill) simply chose not to return as they didn't want the Gaiman association.

I think to wrap it up in any other way would have been disrespectful to the ineffable plan - would have been nice to see more in the wrap-up but I think we can all understand why it couldn't work. There was - besides the obvious David Tenant link, I mean - quite a big feeling of it being like a Dr Who episode I thought, both my partner and I commented on this when we watched it together - and she's not the Dr Who nerd I am so she felt it without clocking who the gangster's father was and which actors had been in what Dr Who episodes

I expected much the same, I figured in a full Season they'd have at least had Jesus help the people of Whickber Street one by one, rather than just master the three-card monte and then give out free bread and fish pizza, but I feel like if they had to cut any of the plotlines down, Good Omens is more about Angels vs Demons than it is any of the other biblical figures, so it was the sensible choice to trim. (This coming from someone who hasn't actually read the book) Ending was very sappy and bittersweet and very on-par with what I expected. Overall, yeah, enjoyed it. 1

ZeroHour Posted May 19 Posted May 19 I found PoI got progressively better at the end of Season 2 when Samaritan begins and I really enjoyed it. The first season wasnt bad but just missing a bit of big ark story. Fringe is similar, Season 1 was good but a bit disjointed, season 2 had the writers strike if I recall but then season 3 onwards kicked it up a notch.

Norphy Posted May 19 Posted May 19 I’ve just finished watching Pluribus on Apple TV. I’m a bit late to the party, but never mind. This is the new thing from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan. It’s pretty high concept and it’s by no means packed with action, but for the most part I think this worked really well. It’s slow but it’s never boring, at least in my opinion. Performances all around were perfect, especially Rhee Seehorn. I hope Apple renews it for another season or four. 3
Dos_Box Posted May 22 Posted May 22 I'm a chink of the way through Widows Bay on Apple TV. I can recommend it highly, it's a bit like an adult Goosebumps. If you like the hairs on the back of your neck to rise during a scary show, then this is for you.
