I did pick myself up the Tyranid commander deck, it does feel quite strong to play, I've made a few tweaks, but overall it seems great out-of-the-box.

In less exciting news, I appear to have lost a monstrous scything talon from my Screamer-Killer thanks to a considerably large gust of wind whilst priming :( Thank papa nurgle for bitz stores!

The 'Nids deck gets scary quickly and shutting it down became a regular habit in our gaming group.

The Necron deck is my favourite so far. Much potential to erupt in the mid-game and become an all-conquering monster.

None of them come close to my current top two decks - Mono-Black Sheoldred the Apocalypse and tricolour Lord Xander the collector - But for precons they're some of the best that have been made for sure.

I had an art commission to finish and decided I wasn't allowed to paint until I'd finished it.

And I was also lazy, so I only just got it finished lol

May I present, a fully-magnetised Tyranid Screamer-Killer!

IMG_20221207_210045.jpgIMG_20221207_210104.jpgIMG_20221207_210056.jpgIMG_20221207_210200.jpgIMG_20221207_210209.jpgIMG_20221207_210216.jpg

I tried a bunch of different carapace designs, but nothing really suited the rest of the model, so I decided to go for a simple drybrush, given that that's basically all the rest of the paint job is.

Kind of annoyed that I still had to use a wash (well, a contrast paint as a wash) for the claws, as I don't have a dark enough paint. Wanted to do a completely wash-free paintjob. Ah well, it still looks good.

Well done on the magnetisation. I had plans for fully magnetising a Trygon/Trygon Prime/Mawloc, but ended up just glueing a Prime together once I saw how difficult magnetising Tyranids was going to be. Such organic shapes don't lend themselves to magnets.

Being a Warhammer 40k video game, I hope this post still on-topic for this thread, but I'm happy to move the discussion to the Gaming Chat instead!

Is anyone playing Warhammer 40k: Darktide that just released lately? My friends and I gave it a crack at the weekend (it's included in the Xbox Game Pass for PC) and it's really fun.

As for the tabletop game, I had a Chaos Space Marine starter kit and the Chaos Space Marine codex book (I think it was called?) a when I was at school about 15 years ago, which I very badly put together and painted... I've not really looked at it since, but I remember really enjoying reading the lore in the book.

I have it through GamePass but I'm waiting on some other folks getting paid to buy it so we can all go in blind.

It does look good, though.

I have some friends playing Darktide and they're having an absolute blast playing it. The last edition of White Dwarf had some really cool kitbash/painting tutorials that some of the team had been putting together to get some of their minis looking accurate-ish to the game

I've been playing Orks for a few years now, however my friends and I never seem to have the time to get together and play. We started playing Kill Team over a traditional 40k game again mostly due to time.

I'm waiting on Darktide coming out on Xbox before I'm able to give it a go. Fat Shark have said "soon", but have not (last time I checked) put an actual date on it sadly. But the fact that it's day 1 on Game Pass is a bonus.

Also waiting on GW to release WH40K v10 next year, as I'm not particularly enjoying 9th Edition rules (too much bookkeeping!) so my Iron Hands have sat in their case, un-played with, for coming up to 2 years. Although this does mean I've managed to expand into Bolt Action quite considerably!

Ooh, what case are they in? I discovered KR cases the other year and there's something deeply satisfying about seeing trays full of painted minis in them.

One of my (many) standard KR card cases! I currently have 4 KR cases with WFB armies, 2 with 40k armies and 4 with BA armies all piled up next to/under my hobby desk.

My wife says I have a problem, but I've told her it's not a problem as I quite enjoy it :D

I need to get a case for my Tyranids, and possibly another one for some new AdMech that are still on sprues. I'm looking forward to spending a couple of hours painstakingly deciding which tray configurations I will need! Love it.

I haven't even thought about playing yet.. I'm in the middle of nowhere now so it's probably not going to happen much but we'll see. There's always trains, I suppose.

Depends where you are - most decent sized towns have a gaming club that operates one evening a week. Although yes, admittedly, public transport may be an issue - particularly in the next few weeks.

I know from when my parents lived in the middle of the Forest of Dean that public transport was ... interesting. About one bus an hour. If you were lucky! At least if you have access to trains that should be more frequent/reliable (normally anyway).

Hive Fleet Tarrasque has grown a little more!

To be fair, I really should paint some of the troops.. But batch painting Hormagaunts and Termagants is a wee bit boring compared to the bigger guys so I know it's going to be the 3 Zoanthropes next

They're looking really smart!

I've been quiet on the painting front, but very busy on the hobby front in general.

I got a resin 3d printer back in august. Up to now I've printed a few smaller pieces and a couple of dragons. All very nice. but all within the confines of a single pre-assembled print.

Over new year I decided to be a little more ambitious. It has taken nearly two months of printing and more resin than I'm willing to publicly admit, but I present to you theLoot Studios Fortressback Tortoise in all its 32mm mini scale glory!

turtle1.jpg turtle2.jpg turtle3.jpg turtle4.jpg turtle5.jpg

He's HUGE! Last couple of pictures have one of GW's Lord of the Rings High Elves to give you an idea of the scale.

Still not fully sure how I'm going to go about painting him. But I'll post updates along the way.

Good luck painting that tortoise. I expect to see all of those scales and bricks individually edge highlighted!

Ha! That might be slightly more effort than I have time for.

I plan to do as much of the legwork as possible with my airbrush, then follow up the details with a brush.

The trees will be cherry blossoms so I'm going to have to work out a technique for those too.

Nice work on both the Zoan's and the Tortoise. I don't envy you panting that!

Although saying that, I did decide to strip my entire Bolt Action partisan army over Christmas with the intention of re-painting them and thus far I've done about 10 out of 60 or so models

So far I have a Hive Tyrant, a Flying Hive Tyrant, 3 Zoanthropes, a Screamer-Killer, a test Hormagaunt, and a test Termagant painted with my old scheme, so it's not toooo much to re-paint.

I'm not sure how well the varnish is going to strip, though...

A few tests on smaller models, just a standard Hormagaunt, and the ripper is actually the Parasite of Mortrex base. The nebula effect doesn't quite work as well on the smaller scale, but I think when you've got all of them together on the tabletop it'll still look good :)

How many minis have you got painted up now? It would be cool to see a pic of the whole collection and how the bases look all together. Haven't got a Hive Tyrant in my [small] collection, but it's the model that tipped me over to starting on some Tyranids. During lockdown we played some 40k via Tabletop Simulator, which was an opportunity to play with the massive armies that we always fancied trying. A massive wave of nids never fails to impress.
