Forgot to upload these yesterday, managed to get the parasite nailed on Sunday. Pretty much all of it done in one day, happy with that.

It ain't perfect, but compared to my first attempt, it's definitely an improvement!

Started working on the Hive Guard now but I suspect I'll be considerably distracted tomorrow when Leviathan arrives :becky:

I've only gone an finished a whole bloomin' regiment of Rats for either Old World or Kings of War!

Entirely 3D printed too, even the bases. I'm super impressed with how easy and cheap it is to knock out minis at home.

They look fantastic Dave, are you really just 3D printing everything then sticking them together? Is there a site you're using to get the templates from?

Thanks very much! These were printed entirely assembled and posed with just bases needing printing separately. With the leader, banner bearer and musician there are 24 different clanrats with spears and most of the other files have similar anmounts of variety. They also include the meshes so you can edit your own if up to speed on that sort of thing.

I use Cults3d to find most of the files i print. All of the Skaven ones are free files, though there are many excellent paid files out there too.

I'm in the middle of painting a Doomwheel next but also have the following ready to start too.

Warplock jezzails:

I'm not really sure I'm on board with reprinting official models.. Totally-not-proxies-honest-guv like Artel W, Dark City and Wild Mesh are fair game, but I dunno about direct copies.. Plus resin is too brittle for me, I drop my models too much

Regardless, I can't deny the print quality is great, and your painting did them justice :)

If i had any intention of playing these anywhere even remotely official (GW store, FLGS etc) then i'd have gone genuine.

But this is just a vanity painting project at this point and will be used as proxies for the odd kings of war game more than anything.

Yeah, fair enough.

Should be finishing my Hive/Tyrant guard tonight unless I get distracted. All the bases, main bodies, claws are painted (sans carapace inking) and the shock cannons are partially done.

Only bothered building/painting/magnetising the Crushing Claws and Shock Cannons though as that's the only things I'll be using them for (even though shock cannons aren't amazing anti-vehicle at A2 S7 AP-1). I think Zoanthropes are our best anti-tank at the moment. Tyrannofex-Rupture Cannon is better on paper but Zoanthropes are far more versatile, have Synapse, and don't cost 200 points.

I got a surprise in the post the other day. One of the lads who does the youtube channel with me had a spare Leviathan Terminator captain and he sent it over unannounced!

I've gleefully been getting him wolfy and ready for a coat of paint.

It's a really nice model to be fair. Big enough to work on without being fiddly.

So I've been watching a number of spoiler videos on Youtube about the upcoming Space Marines codex. I don't normally bother that much, but I'd heard one thing about it that I wanted to check if it was correct - and it is.

There aren't chapters anymore - well, not in terms of a rules difference at any rate since all the chapters can use all the Detachments. I'm not really sure how I feel about this - on the one hand it's nice that I can run the 'same army' several different ways, so I guess that keeps it more interesting in that sense. But being an Iron Hands player, I only have a single Special Character, so unless I take him (and he's very specific in terms of how he plays within the army) my Iron Hands could essentially be Ultramarines, Imperial Fists or anyone else.

Which just seems a shame :(

Wait, so they're dropping the chapter variant codices?

But they specifically singled out Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Black Templars and Deathwatch in a post earlier this year, and the downloads page has individual indexes for each, plus Grey Knights.

Posted

The original non-Ultramarines chapters still have their own Index and therefore a unique detachment, but most of the others are homogenised by the looks of it, albeit with GW wanting to put plenty of flexibility in the SM Codex to allow for suitably expressive choices.

I suppose it means that if your opponent is playing SM, you're less in the dark about whatever obscure rules they're throwing at you.

As I understand it, 'Codex Compliant' chapters won't have their own rules any more, they'll use the generic Space Marine Codex moving forward, and the number of characters has dropped significantly.

The likes of the Dark Angels (roadmapped release for spring 2024), Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Black Templars will still see their own individual releases.

That being said, the standard codex seems to have a lot of flavour for the different styles of combat preferred by the likes of the White Scars and Raven Guard, so you can still customise (even more so than previous editions) to run the kind of force that you'd prefer.

Honestly? Good.

The SM codex has always been a mess.. Librarian.. Librarian in Terminator Armour, Some guy, Some Guy with Jump Pack, etc

Could you imagine how bloated all the codices would be if they all followed the same pattern?

Edit: You only need to compare the size of the Space Marine reference cards to all of the other factions to see what I mean.

Apologies, yes I should have been more specific in stating the lack of special rules only applies to the 'standard' codex chapters and not any of the 4 who routinely have their own codex.

Whilst I would agree that you can customise the actual gameplay of your army more so than at any time previous, I can't help but feel it's come at the expense of flavour/lore since in the absence of any special characters, an Iron Hands detachment can play exactly the same way as a Raven Guard detachment, which just feels ... sad. I guess when everyone can be everything it makes them all a little less special. *shrug* but it may all look/feel/play differently once the book's actually out!

Honestly? Good.

Honestly? Whilst I'm glad some generic characters are going, I can't help but long for more special characters. If the only way to make my force represent a particular legion is to have a named special character in there, then the legions deserve to have more than 1 or 2 named characters to actually make it a valid choice. Or at least balance out the ones they have got (the two Salamander ones, for example, are VERY different in terms of their power levels).

Just feels like another SM release where Iron Hand players are expected to just be thankful for what we've got, even though it's less than everyone else. Just like always.*

* (apart from one 3 month period in 2019 after the release of the IH supplement when we won every tournament going, so we got nerfed back into the stone age)

I'm not convinced. Two or three dudes with a plethora of wargear options sounds way better. Give you your Primarch, then maybe one or two named lieutenants or rando-roles (like Librarian, Chapter Master or the Harmacist Adeptus Biologis)

But I don't think GW would do that because WYSIWYG. So if your Harmacist could take regular or Termy armour, or go with or without a Jump Pack, there's too much kitbashing needed which will probably cause a load of admin overhead at tournaments.

Marines have waaaaaay too many data sheets*. I feel like they need to add extra rules so that you can't take 3 Chapter Master and 3 Chapter Master on a Motorbike and 3 Chapter Master on a Pogo Stick and 3 Chapter Master in Terminator Armour and 3 Chapter Master in a red birthday hat and....

At least with Drukhari all the named characters are all different and have a generic equivalent (except maybe Drazhar)

* Sisters are creeping into this territory a little, too...

That being said I am surprised IF's don't have their own unique codex yet, they get namedropped enough.

GPT reckons it would go a little something like this:

Introducing the "Aetherhopper" - a marvel of Adeptus Mechanicus ingenuity tailored for the mighty Space Marines. This remarkable pogo stick combines jump pack technology and agile mechanics, allowing the Astartes to achieve unrivaled aerial prowess on the battlefield.

Forged from sacred alloys, the Aetherhopper defies gravity and propels the Space Marine with immense force, launching them skyward with thunderous power. As they soar through the air, enemies tremble beneath the warrior's shadow, knowing that the righteous fury of the Emperor is about to descend upon them.

With lightning-fast adjustments and gyroscopic stabilizers, the Aetherhopper grants the Space Marine unmatched control mid-flight, allowing them to effortlessly navigate the heavens. Equipped with integrated weaponry, such as bolters or energy blades, the warrior rains death upon foes below, obliterating all who dare oppose the might of the Imperium.

The Aetherhopper is a testament to the Adeptus Mechanicus' endless pursuit of technological advancement, providing the Space Marines with an extraordinary advantage in warfare. As they soar through the skies, they become perfected avatars of the Emperor's wrath, striking fear into the hearts of enemies and embodying the unwavering determination of the Imperium in its darkest battles.

edit: I think "Skylance" would've been a better name, but what do I know?

I've been slowly picking up the painting after being far too busy for far too long. Getting Old World ready with my 3d printed skaven proxies and I'm absolutely delighted with this Doomwheel!

First time I've ever tried both a rust effect and object source lighting and I'm bloomin' delighted with how both have turned out!

Starting on the Warplock Jezzails next.

Lookin' good!

I should start painting again. Petered off it because that's how my stupid ADHD-brain works.. But I might have sold a bunch of Drukhari recently and ordered myself the Norn kit with some of the proceeds :becky: So hopefully I can kick myself back into painting once that's build and magnetised.

I've been watching a load of mates get their Kings of War forces ready for a tournament and it finally spurred me on to get everything out again.

My desk is a mess of paints, brushes and half finished projects!

Must admit my GW painting has taken a back seat in recent months - managed to get an entire Bolt Action Chinese army ready and painted in a couple of months instead ;)

However with the news of the imminent return of The Old World I think I'll be switching back again shortly. I have a bunch of printed Emo Elves that need their purple painting in time for the new rules :) (even if they do only get a stupid pdf!)
