Reading this as someone who knows close to nothing about Warhammer

Is this how we sound to none techs when talking about DNS, DHCP, MDMs etc...? 😅

I wish I had time to get involved in something like this

Always happy to give people intro games, see above-mentioned Discord and Tabletop Simulator :D

Subterranean Assault & Invasion Fleet both being 3DP was entirely predicable though in all honesty. They're by far and away the best detachments that 'Nids currently have, outside of going super niche assimilation swam or similar.

I had already toyed around with moving my list to a Crusher Stampede to allow me to also take the Norn one, although doing so doesn't particularly bring much as the detachment doesn't massively bolster my Emissaries (seems more geared up for Assimilator's rather than Emissaries), but I guess it's free at 2,000 so why not?

Oh yeah, I fully expected Subterranean to go to 3DP, was 50/50 about Invasion Fleet.

Mostly I like the idea of Ambush Predators, I'm not 100% about pairing it with Crusher Stampede but I'm not sure what else I'd put with it, Ambush fulfils a lot of your general dogs-body requirements (VRL's annoyingly don't get Battleline but up to 3 squads of 6 is still dece, and 3 Lictors now deep striking means you don't need to use Gargs/Rippers for Forward Position/Outflank/Behind Enemy Lines/etc) so pairing it with beefy monsters sounds like it might be the right call

Currently mulling up 10 Gargs, 2x 20 Horms with TP w/ LW, 2x 3 Zoans with NT, 3 Hive Guard (Impalers), 2 Biovores, 2 Lictors, 2x6 VRLs, 2 Exocrines, a TFex with casino cannon and 2 rippers (because there's spare points left over but that'll probably be spent on enhancements or cut if points go up)

Hive Guard and Biovores protect home turf, the rest get to go up the board and do their thing

The other added benefit of using Crusher Stampede is it's our only Purge the Foe disposition (but will be interesting to eventually see how all the various ones interact).

Quick, somebody play a strategem to force an immediate morale test on any units within engagement range who don't have the #tech keyword!!

True. I tend to have burned all of mine on command re-rolls by 11am most days.

Seeing all the buzz around 11th and a few of my friends starting to fire up Tabletop Sim again has got me itching for a game...

Might have to dig the Necrons out of their tomb world (the shed) for another run! Thankful I don't work next door to the Warhammer shop nowadays as I don't think my bank account would survive!

Next-door!  Crikey!  That's dangerous!

Absolutely was - luckily I was only an apprentice at the time so budget was very limited but it definitely stretched farther than it should have some weeks! A few lunch breaks near the end of my contract might have possibly lengthened to 1.5 or 2 hours thanks to 7th edition rules as well...

I always thought that as I got older and earned good money, I'd be able to afford all my dream Warhammer armies.

Turns out that even now I'm in my forties and doing quite well for myself, I still can't afford to just go and get enough boxes to make the huge units I always wanted!

I have no idea how kids afford it these days.

3D printing!

The 1k list I posted above cost me £140 all in, but that includes the costs of the files - which I don't have to buy again. So, for example, printing another 3 Zoanthropes will run me to about £15, compared to £49.50 for the official kits.

Must I love GW's products, I simply can't justify paying that level of price anymore, even if I buy it 3rd party so it's 15% off, it's still more than double what I can pay at home (well, not my home, a friend's, but you get the point).

If I was restricted to only buying official GW models I'd have dropped 40K like a stone years ago, as there's no way I could afford to keep up with it. I'd have restricted myself purely to historicals - although annoying many of them seem to be seeing what GW can get away with and thinking it sounds like a good idea ....

Amen to that!

My 3d printed Skaven army cost me a few quid all in.

Played my first game of Man O' War in about ... *cough* something years decades on Monday evening. God I forgot how much fun the 1990's Games Workshop rules were - although massively imbalanced!

My Skaven fleet destroyed more of its own ships than I did enemy ones - still one though thanks to a double Screaming Bell ring on the last turn 😁

It wasn't perfect, but it was fun!

You can say that again! The Skaven stuff dying I accepted, as it's cheap, funny and very on-brand for Skaven (plus also came as a result of setting my opponents ship on fire, so it's win-win!).

But some of the other fleets are just hot garbage because of it. Like one of the Orc vessels who's main purpose is to ram other ships as it has a massive drill on board, but when it does so on a 1-2 it itself sinks.

Like .... why? Just reminds me so much of how O&G animosity changed over the years for Warhammer and swung wildly between 'very amusing characterful rule' to 'made this army almost unplayable because of it'.

But yes, would love them to re-do the rules (don't care about the boats themselves, 3D printing has solved that issue!).

I haven't played anything except standard 40k, but I do have a Bloodbowl team 50.2% painted (6 done, started another 3 last night), mostly because I wanted to practice bigger armour plates and skin tones (so bought the Khorne team)

I don't think I've even heard of Man O' War! 😅

It's boats in the OG warhammer fantasy world!  Tremendous fun and perfect for those wanting to do a narrative campaign with a map you can conquer!

Thing is, they've definitely got the capacity to do it - look at Dreadfleet which was released in 2011 (dear lord, was it really that long ago?)

That game was amazing, but was just a one off. But it proves they have the ability to make the models and the rules, should they be so inclined. I'm hopeful wit the return (sort of) of Epic, that both Gothic and MoW might not be too far off. We can but hope.

Honestly, as much as I love both 40K and Fantasy, GW's 'specialist' games were always the better, more fun games amongst their selection. It was so gutting to have them all shelved permanently by the previous CEO's short-sighted vision.

My only issue with Epic is that it's Heresy-era!  I want to see modern 40k titans.  Lets see what the can do with the Necrons, tyranids and hell, even Tau at that scale.  And I worry that they would do the same with BFG.  I know the core of Battlefleet Gothic is Abaddon vs the Imperium, but the other factions got a look in too.  I'd love to Battlefleet: Cadia or something that told the story of the fall of Cadia but from the perspective of the fleet engagements that led to it.  It would be a perfect sequel to BFG.

As for man-o-war, I think the time is ripe.  Old World has brought the classic warhammer world back into focus and it has been incredibly successful.  Lets see more!

Apparently, my hobby is cluttering up too much of the house, so the "kids" got me this rather fetching display cabinet to keep some of the better-painted minis from gathering dust and taking up valuable shelf space.

Now I just need to work out how to get some lighting in there without taking up any space...

Nice. I'd love a cabinet for [some] of mine. Perhaps a dark rather than light colour on the shelves and backboard will present the minis best?

Braved the heat over the weekend to visit the local Warhammer shop (It'll forever be Games Workshop to me!), went in just to pick up a hard copy of the new 11th rules and ended up spending £150 instead of £15 as it often goes... Now I'm eyeing up portable painting stations to fit in my very limited space at home.

Had a good chat with the manager (Shout out to Geoff) who's been running the place since the early 2000's when I first started and he caught me up on a lot of changes / new additions to the lines since I last played during 8th.

Bit cheeky that they've released 11th and made all the core rules free, but you still need to buy a 10th edition codex to get army rules & datasheets until they release the 11th codexes in god knows how many months time though. I know about all the questionable websites and sources, but like to do it properly where and when I can.

Definitely seems that way as with the recent stream showing the first 11th ed codex (Orks), they specifically say that the code you get with the book gives you access to "multiple updates / new additions over the year" in the 40k app. Would make sense if they just roll the rules into the Warhammer+ subscription but I expect separate subscriptions per army or perhaps a more expensive plan to gain access to codex info is what they're more likely to move towards sadly.
