  1. If you could squeeze a little more out of the budget then AMD chips would be a great way to go, the AM5 platform isn't going away anytime soon which leaves plenty of room for easy upgrades in the future. A Ryzen 5 7600 with motherboard and the same RAM / 1TB storage comes in ~£400.
  2. They look great, Dave, what are your thoughts on the game itself? I've heard mixed things about the rules, but i'm still tempted to jump in when the Wood Elves get a release, I've still got my Lord on Forest Dragon sat waiting for a fresh coat of paint.
  3. Microsoft did handily add a WMI entry called UPGRADE_EXPERIENCE_INDICATORS, we use it as the basis for a query in SCCM which adds devices to supported and unsupported collections. It requires telemetry to be enabled on the devices, but isn't particularly taxing. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1341190/upgrade-experience-indicators-missing-on-some-syst
  4. As I understand it, 'Codex Compliant' chapters won't have their own rules any more, they'll use the generic Space Marine Codex moving forward, and the number of characters has dropped significantly. The likes of the Dark Angels (roadmapped release for spring 2024), Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Black Templars will still see their own individual releases. That being said, the standard codex seems to have a lot of flavour for the different styles of combat preferred by the likes of the White Scars and Raven Guard, so you can still customise (even more so than previous editions) to run the kind of force that you'd prefer.
  5. Homeworld Remastered Collection free from Epic Game Store until 3rd August https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/free-games
  6. Vermintide 2 is currently free on Steam (until monday), I loved the original and am greatly looking forward to the new Warhammer 40k based game out at the end of this month. https://store.steampowered.com/app/552500/Warhammer_Vermintide_2/

    Steam Deck

I know it's not exactly a new device, but has anyone indulged in the new miracle machine from Valve? Mine arrived at the end of last week and has re-invigorated a lost love of gaming and tinkering with devices, running games that I used to benchmark PCs with and it doesn't even break a sweat! I might finally be able to make my way through the hideous Steam sale backlog I have, and relishing the prospect of having something to play the latest new titles on without breaking the bank on upgrades.
  8. I suspect you're looking in the right place then, sorry it's not much help, our solution was simply to rebuild the mandatory profile, we have since scrapped mandatory and roaming profiles entirely and just redirect everything with GPO.
  9. Are you using mandatory profiles at all? When moving from proxy to no proxy we had issues with mandatory profiles still having settings in place, but that was on Windows 7.
  10. We used a standard tripod for the camera, the site team built a 'frame' for the participants to stand behind and we attached the tablet just behind the inside of the frame on a small shelf, with time i'd have liked to actually get around to building some kind of holder for the tablet, but we essentially gaffa taped it into place using some cardboard to cover the buttons.
  11. We were asked to help with a cost cutting photobooth for our Year 11 prom this year and with a cobbled together solution, we had a fairly decent result. SLR Booth - The ultimate photo booth app for iPad and Android Using the app on an old android tablet and a Nikon SLR camera tethered to it we were able to create some decent shots that could be controlled by the students, the only issue we came across was having no ability to charge the camera, so we had to swap out a battery halfway through the proceedings, but otherwise it all went relatively smoothly and with the minimal amount of effort. We did have to purchase the equipment necessary, although we didn't pay for the premium version of the app, but given that the purchase cost was roughly equivalent to the rental of a photobooth, we deemed it worthwhile as it can easily be reused.
  12. If the rumors are true in regards to Raikonnen's ultimatum at Ferrari, there could well be a position opening up there for Rosberg, but it's going to be a step backwards in terms of career progression. I think next weekend is going to be very interesting in terms of the behaviour of the two Mercedes drivers, I can't wait, going to be down at trackside on the saturday and sunday, any other geeks in attendance?
  13. I plumped for the pre-order version which handily came with the Chaos forces as a bonus (now an additional DLC) and was very pleasantly surprised. Having been an old player of the tabletop game but now lacking in the funds and time it felt very familiar to be playing with the forces involved. One thing that has radically changed the game is how different the forces are in their tactics and behaviour, whereas previously in games like Shogun the armies needed a rock/paper/scissors approach, there are a lot more variations you can use in tactics and force compositions. The ability to upgrade your Lord and Hero with different abilities, wargear and even mounts just adds to that, to the point that some of them are capable of becoming a one man army in themselves. I could gush on about it for ages, the planned expansion of the game (apparently this is part one of a trilogy) down to all the little additional characters and units they are planning to add. To me it feels like they really captured the essence of the tabletop game, I can't see myself playing anything else for a long time.
  14. Anyone else bought this gem of a game? I've been a fan of the Total War series for a while, although the last one I purchased was Shogun 2, however this was too good an opportunity to miss. Currently playing through the Dwarf campaign and fighting wars on two fronts and can't get enough of it, yet to encounter a single game breaking bug which is rare for a TW game. Sad to say Stellaris is sat unplayed at the moment..
  15. I'm sold already, the trailers for Dawn of War games have always been stunning and this one is no different. However, after the amount of DLC and 'add-ons' for Company of Heroes 2, I imagine this one will be the same and we'll be paying for plenty of extra content.
  16. They weren't all bad, but yeah, I see your point. It still gets me every time, though, when a John Williams overture starts.
  17. https://twitter.com/starwars/status/718043194378682373 Say what you want about Disney, but more Star Wars can never be a bad thing as far as i'm concerned.
  18. There is a remarkable amount of skepticism around here.. Who is to say there aren't dark forces at work? Primal powers rebelling against these new forms of technology? Who ya gonna call?
  19. Why use a software solution when you can apparently hire someone to cast it out with Magic.. We Talked to a Witch Who Casts Viruses Out of Computers With Magic | Motherboard
  20. I seem to recall something similar, but not from Bravo. Back in the early 00's when Channel 4 did the 4Later shows there was one called Vids (or Vidz). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vids It's not that by any chance?
  21. Just to be clear, is it the scripting error for staff that's causing an issue? Or the removal of IE10 causing a problem for mandatory profiles?
  22. Wow, that is a bit of a bump, and i'm struggling to remember quite what we did at the time to resolve it. I'm pretty sure a clean mandatory profile for the students was the eventual solution, but where that was built i'm not sure, as we're going back a couple of years it's hard to say. We've now got IE11 and Chrome on all of our workstations, with only a few older staff laptops having not been updated.
  23. There is a slight possibility that I stashed a couple of RISC PCs in my parents' loft and that they've not been thrown out, one was originally owned by the family and the other was being disposed of by the old school where I worked. If I remember rightly it had an ethernet card in, too, which I thought to be a fantastic novelty. I'll have a check tonight, as i'm sure they'd rather be shot of any of my junk these days..
  24. A little late to the party with this one, but i'm currently doing the same thing trying to get Start Menu layout. Looking through the RSOP data it looks like the same policy is enabled that caused my problems. I had to disable the "Remove common program groups from Start menu." setting and then it allowed the layout to work, but all the icons from the public desktop now appear on my desktop. Hope this helps, i'm now struggling to find a way of dealing with the desktop icons and taskbar.
