Any Warhammer 40k'ers on here?

Squats kinda predate even my earliest interest in 40k. I picked it up during 2nd edition, and even then Squats were probably a preserve of the 'well I was into it when it was called Rogue Trader back before it was cool' types.

 

I have to agree that the mini they showed off was somewhat underwhelming. I'm looking forward to seeing what the larger units and vehicles are going to llook like, though. Loads of scope for GW to supplement the range with fiction and animation as well, as I reckon the lore can probably be richer than for most other factions. As individuals they could be more interesting, characterful and storied than regular footsolders might normally be.

 

I've been working on a new army recently, working on a Tyranids starter box. I'm quite a slow painter, so starting out on a horde army is almost certainly a bad idea, but I've managed to settle on a paint scheme that seems pretty quick compared to my AdMech stuff.

Huh, if you'd have said "glittery blue carapace" I'd not be for it, but on those models, it looks really nice! Goes well with the rest of the colour scheme, and I love the gross, growth-looking bases. Good job!

Ta. The glittery blue paint is really hard to photograph. Less sparkly in reality, but it's actually a colourshift paint, moving between teal and purple. The bases are meant to suggest a creeping carpet of feeder tendrils, so I'm glad that comes across. In unpainted greenstuff form, the effect is more obvious, but I wanted it to also look like something out of an H R Giger image, because, y'know, apex predator xenomorphs from the cold blackness of space.

from years ago about putting super glue on top of PVA to produce a gross flesh-growth-looking effect which I'd probably do if I went back to playing 'nids.

Thanks. I'm a total aranchniphobe and not than keen on insects, so what I'm hoping for is some Tyranids on the table-top that'll trigger the amygdala and make your skin crawl. The colourshift paint for the carapace is meant to make them look a bit like beetles.

They are looking great. If it was me I would be tempted to keep the base colour of the tendrils as the shade colour but then work in some flesh tones to give it a more Giger'ish "body parts" rather than "plant matter" feel. Would also give a good contrast to the dark colour on the nids. Still looks ace as it is though.

A bit more progress on my 'nids. The genestealers and broodlord from the SC box are now done.

They're gloriously beetle-like. It makes so much sense that they should look like this, but I've never seen any others painted this way.

The base of the Broodlord really shows off that pearlescent effect of the paint! Definitely does get me thinking of beetle shells.

I've seen a few examples online where they've been painted using a colour shift paint, but those have tended to be ludicrously good portfolios pieces by studio painters. Thankfully, the two colours in the paint I used tie in quite closely with the purple and cyan citadel colours that I used on the rest of the model. More luck than judgement, tbh.

If you're ever looking for something a little niche, going for an Adeptus Mechanicus army is always fun. You can't go wrong with a few Skitarri or Kastelan Robots.

The midwinter minis stuff is always a good watch. His Necrons are cool and his little 'midwinter medium' mixture has been a blessing when painting.

Colours look great. I really like your bases. I don't know drukhari stuff well enough to work out how you've kitbashed that one, but it looks like a very different pose from the one on the box!

Head/Arms/Weapons/Back thingies are spare bits from the Incubi box, the torso itself is from spare folks hanging off a Raider, and the legs (and the rock he's stood on) are from the Scourge kit. I have no idea about the ribbons coming off his back, from some Eldar kit a friend gave me a tonne of spare bits for. Same for the tree and the other rock on the base.

 

I didn't really like the official new Drazhar.. It was way too ostentatious for someone supposed to be decked out in ancient armour of the first Incubi. It looked far to new and decorated and fancy, so I kludged one looking a bit less sparkly and new.

He looks ace! Better than the current Drazhar for sure. I much prefer the older model to the new one as it at least looked in motion. Yours looks like he's about to go full Neo on a bunch of Imperial Guard and I love it!

My friends picked up all 4 between them, which is simultaneously relieving (as I don't have to try and find the money for them), but also frustrating as I now want them all the more

Oh I bought all four 40K commander sets. They're worth far in excess of the retail price!

 

But no... I dug out my classic collection (Rares going back to unlimited) and sold a few on ebay with several cards going for over £150 each!!

Rather than pay down debt, buy a new kitchen or generaly do something useful with the money, I've been steadily reinvesting and now have thousands more cards than when i started!
