X-13 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 So , how many people are in your IT Department 1 what are their roles ? DO ALL THE THINGS!
localzuk Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) 2 people. A technician and an IT Manager (myself). Tech - fixing day to day issues, assisting users, running around, getting quotes for toners and other small purchases. IT Manager - Network config, server config, large scale projects, disaster planning, managing the technician, planning future spending, major issue resolution, complex issue resolution. That's a very simplified outlook by the way, as listing all the responsibilities would take forever. We've got 25+ virtual servers running across 6 physical servers, 150 desktops and laptops, 100 thin clients, about 20 ipads, 20 netbooks, 40 printers, asterisk phone system, cashless catering, half a dozen digital display systems, stage lighting and audio. We also maintain several custom programs. Edited October 24, 2013 by localzuk

RichCowell Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Let us know what numbers of servers/workstations/users your looking after too... I'm currently thinking of arguments for a 2nd technician as things are mounting up... There's just two of us here... We've got 15 servers, about 400 PCs/Laptops, 60ish iPads, 1100 users...

Didn't we do this, not too long ago? lol
tmcd35 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Me - moving paper between desks, signing stuff, attending meetings and complaining about lack of coffee. Trying to look both busy and like I know what I'm doing... Tech1 - mostly doing work for our feeder schools and managing their needs, helps tech2 when he can. Tech2 - does most of the real work here, hasn't learnt that it's okay to hide from teachers yet. Helps tech1 out with feeder schoo stuff.
RichCowell Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Didn't we do this, not too long ago? lol Probably, but people just saying how many there are of us doesn't mean much if you don't say what you've got to look after... It's all relative lol :-p
unixman_again Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Four IT manager - does networks, email system, users, MIS, buys stuff, etc Senior techie - me! - website, any programming, covers the others Hardware techie - installs m/c, looks after printers, iwb, scanners, consumables, etc Junior techie - does the crap that we don't want to do I could actually do everything the IT manager does, but he keeps the "keys" to himself.

Nixon77 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Everyone does everything in my place unless its really technical.
Ephelyon Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 * Two physical hosts with another redundant for DR (about a dozen servers split between them); * ~250 desktops; * ~50 laptops; * ~40 tablets lurking around the place; * ~25 printers; * ~800 users. So we're quite small for a secondary, as a result it's me with overall responsibility for the lot supported by @ElBrontus. My focus is avoiding a stroke before I'm 30. His focus is avoiding work. < (TROLLOLOLOL... ) We both share a focus on coffee and an avoidance of anything AV-related. Added to that is a love of automation (re avoiding work) and a hatred of printers. Occasionally the Site Team will poach my Technician for a while. I will then poach their coffee for a while.
