Is largely back up for us as well. Just needed people to log off/back in again or restart Cloud Drive Mapper to get their SharePoint drives back.

Same here, Sharepoint being very slow & intermittant. At least it's friday afternoon!

I've just ran my Salamander workflow manually and it also failed to upload to SDS, although last nights scheduled run reported success.

We have a BT net line here, it's a 1Gbps bearer but 500Mbps port speed. Probably pricey by todays standards(9K a year) and we're contracted until 2022. No major outages, although we had an odd incident on Friday where the connection seemed to die for 5 minutes then come back again, called BT who said they couldn't see anything. Am happy with them overall, although probably won't end up staying with them when we renew as other providers will be more competitive on price.

At my current school I just have one single server/comms room. So everything is hooked up to a UPS anyway. Any my old school we did try where possible to have all switch cabinets hooked up to a small UPS. Mainly so wifi/phones still worked in the event of a power outage.

We have Salamander creating Teams from any class set in our MIS. Teachers are then trained to prepare the team & activate.

Ours is open as normal and bookable by any teacher. Although the teacher concerned is then responsible for cleaning keyboards/mice & desks before and after the lesson.

I can vouch for Aruba as well. We have 36 IAP's setup using the Instant system, works well with one Master access point and no virtual/physical controller appliance required. Kit was resonably priced for us.

Yep. does suprise me there's no automatic sync tool. it's worse for us as we're an iSams school so even the pupils need adding manually.

My old school went down this route. Started historically and has been updated/mainted ever since in Classic ASP, they employ two full time developers to work on it and code new features as required. I do have a feeling that it'll go when the current Director of IT goes(as he started it back in the 90's). Did make it very flexible though, a member of staff could email us and say 'I need something to do X, can this be done?' and the developers would do it for them.

ACL's have an implicit deny at the end. So any traffic that isn't permitted within the ACL will be denied at the end. You'll need to add lines that permit the traffic you want permitted, where possible optimise the ACL so that those rules likely to be met first are at the top of the ACL.

Thank you. mtu is default(1500) on both hosts and tcp/ip settings are the same along with security settings being default(reject Promiscuous mode and accept mac changes & forged transmits) and both hosts are running 6.7 u3 patch release 16316930. Hi All, I'm having a problem with storage vMotion. No matter which host is involved or vm I try, a combines compute & storage vMotion fails. The message is 'failed to read stream keepalive: Connection closed by remote host, possibly due to timeout' For context the SAN is SAS, so both hosts are connectedto both controllers. vMotion also has a dedicted nic on each host and Standard compute vMotions work perfectly, it's just storage & compute that doesn't. I can't do a standalone live storage vMotion as we don't have the enterprise license. Also a migration with the vm powered off doesn't give the same error, but progress never moves beyond 30% and I end up cancelling after several hours. I'm also able to move files between datastores in the browser(such as the folder with server ISO files in). Thanks in advance!

We did a core refresh last summer and put in an Aruba 5406R Zl2 with redundant management modules. You can get the J9993A module which has 8 10Gbps SFP+ ports, or if you're not doing 10Gbps J9988A provides 20 1Gbps SFP ports instead. You can have up to 6 modules in this switch. Very happy with it overall, bucketloads of capacity for us going forward.

We're a sixth form with 480 students, about 50 staff. 230 devices evenly split between desktops & laptops, around 25 virtual servers & two physical(ignoring ESX hosts). I have myself full time and an apprentice who initially does a 12 month level 3 course with the option to stay for a further 2 years and complete the level 4 qualification. Certain times of the year can be busy, but equally we can also be extremely quiet. I would apprechiate a second full time person rather than the apprentice, but thats not happenning anytime soon.

We're a Sixth form and use iSams, have no problems with it at all. We have it cloud hosted rather than on site and IT involvement really is minimal(beyond new user creation). Can't comment on the cost as it goes on the academic budget rather than IT, so I never see the invoices.

I wonder if we'll see a rise in the number of people deferring for a year. I know that personally I wouldn't be willing to start uni and pay £9K a year just for online lectures.

We have essentials plus as well. It will let you do Storage Vmotion as long as you do a compute vmotion at the same time. So you’ll need to move the vms to the new hosts as the same time as moving them to the new datastore. If you can connect your existing hosts to the new storage that’s great, otherwise it’ll do it over the network.

Thats also good, Veeam VM migration is very good as well!

Ahh ok. Would your existing hosts be able to run more servers? You could always unlicense one host and migrate it's vm's to the other two hosts and then gradually introduce new hosts that way. This is how I did it, as we only have the essentials plus license for three hosts. Other thing you can do is suspend the VM's and move them while suspended I think.

Hi All, We've purchased Cloud Drive Mapper initially for Onedrive mapping and replacing students on site H Drives, then in the future moving our shared drives to a Sharepoint site. My question is on deleted files. Those that have gone down this path, how do you deal with requests to recover deleted files and has the SharePoint recycle bin been enough for you? In our case requests for file recovery isn't that frequent, but do still want to have myself covered. Thanks, Chris

I went through this process in July. New san & hosts. In the end I added the new hosts to my existing Vcenter and then migrated everything with Vmotion(including Vcenter itself). Took about 2 days to get everything moved, but went really well with no downtime at all. Just needed to make sure that the vlan configuration was identical(names included).
