Is this not expected behaviour? We have Azure AD Connect SSO setup and it only works completely when using Internet Explorer(I do remember reading something that this is how it should work, but can't remember where). Chrome and Edge want the email address entered, then it proceeds to sign the user in without a password prompt.

We do. Our BYOD network only has access to a server runing Papercut mobility print & a our BYOD DNS server. All other traffic other internal subnets is blocked & ut only has internet access.

Hi All, We have a remote app/desktop setup to provide staff remote access. Broker/Host is Server 2019 with gateway in 2012 R2. Have noticed something odd in the licensning(we have per user licensing), users are taking up two licenses. So for example bob.smith is assigned one license, but there will then be another one for Bob.Smith issued as well with the firstname/surname capitalised. Any ideas on this, I'd rather not keeep having to reset the license database.

Hi, Starting to have a strange problem popup on random computers. Every once in a while the logged in user will have their documents/task bar & desktop icons go funny and say 'Cannot open this item as it may have been deleted or moved'. Also happens if a user locks their computer and comes back say 10-15 minutes later. To my knowledge the computers do not loose network connectivity. Any ideas, never had or seen this problem before? It's only happened previously if the computer completely looses network access. Thanks,

I didn't in the end. It was comparable on the cost front, it was just that Stone's leadtime didn't work for us. The wheels of management turn very slowly here, and Stone were quoting a lead time of 8-10 weeks from order. Ended up going with HPE and getting a pair of DL360 G10's with a MSA 2050 san.

Screens I have no idea. At this stage I don't think there's been any thought to it, although personally I do want to go down the screen route rather than projectors. I know that terms have only just been agreed, but I want IT locations(cab locations. server room & such) sorted before the flooor plan is completed. Am going to see if I can sit on on the meetings about this building.

This is top of my list. I want to get all of the edge switches out of the server room. Will have to see how much space I can take.

I agree on that. I think I'm going to have to explain to some aspects of IT need doing while it's still being built!

Hi All, Just after some advice on a new building. We're a sixth form of 450 pupils and about 50 staff and the lease on our current building expires in 2023, so that year there entire school will be moving to a completely new building. It's looking like the new site is literally next door(tax office being knocked down & redeveloped) and we're at the stage where terms have been agreed between located, dfe & developers. So far we'll definitely be getting the ground floor plus the first 5 floors of the new development. There's already flaws in the current building that I don't want repeated, there's never enough network sockets. When we opened in 2012 the builders put in 'just enough' data. So in an office each person gets one socket and they're lucky if there's a spare for a printer. Same goes with power, not enough and the IT suite relies on extension leads. I also don't like that I have a single comms/server room(in my last school we never put edge switches in server rooms), so I feel like I have one massive central point of failure if something ever happens to the room. I can't even relocate our backup NAS to another part of the building, as there's no suitable space. From a personal perspective my office is tiny and with two people(myself plus apprentice who leaves annually) there's barely any additional space, it also lacks a decent workbench area. So I genuinely would like a bigger office(especially as we'd be going to 800 pupils, so I'd want a another IT person) with windows. I've had an initial discussion with the Business Director and have been told that I'll be consulted when the fit out is being planned. Should I be concerned or is this reasonable?

Never mind, rather embarrasingly I've fixed my own problem. The 2910 was set to allocate POE by class. Have changed it to allocate by usage and total used power has dropped to 100 watts.

Hi, I have a HP 2910al which is used to power 16 acccess points(IAP-315's) it's reporting 248w of power usage, this doesn't seem to correspond with the actual power usage of the access points. Am I being thick or is there something funny going on with this switch? In Comparison I have a 2930F with 21 access points connected only reporting 151w of usage.

Thanks, will have a fiddle around. For some reason my prededcessor never bothered with automation or time saving and preferred changing everything manually every September(that included creating accounts).

We do have Azure AD Connect. How can I use it to manage my lists? Sorry if this sounds stupid, I've very little experience with AD Connect.

Hi All, We're an Office 365 school and it's coming up to the time of year where the year group distribution lists need changing. My last school was Hybrid Office 365, so all distribution lists were based on AD Security groups. Is it possible to do a similar thing without a hybrid setup? I'm keen to avoid manually updating the distribution lists for all of the pupils. Thanks in advance!

Just to update this for anyone that finds this thread. Looks like it's a bug in Veam B&R 9.5 Update 4B. Veeam have released a hotfix https://www.veeam.com/kb2983 and it's resolved my problem completely. Glad I didn't replace the drive afterall(quoted cost of nearly £7K!) and have spent weeks scratching my head on this....

Just to update my own thread. I'd read somewhere that it wasn't working because I'm using the volume copy downloaded through vlsc. As I'd imaged all computers with Windows 10 anyway and no one has used them yet, I've started the move to Office 365 with Shared Computer Activation. On the handful of computers I tested today, it works perfectly and users then have Onedrive access instantly.

Logging is enabled, they were wizzing through group policies(drives, printers and such) in about 15 seconds and then sitting at preparing windows. Not blocing ini files to my knowledge. The default profile in netlogon has definetly helped. After testing some more desktops it's now down to between 30 seconds and 1 minute 30(machine that had been off since term ended).

Sorry to answer my own post! I've just tried turning it into a default profile instead and placing it on Netlogin. Seems to have done the trick and my test pupil account can now login in between 30-40 seconds.

Hi, Any suggestions on how to cut down initial login times? I'm using local profiles and the initial login can be between 4-5 minutes waiting for 'Preparing Windows' to complete. During the task sequence I have a powershell script that remove all except a few of the modern apps. The via group policy have the initial sign in screen turned off, plus the other recommended policies from Microsoft on cortana and customer experience. I've experimented with a mandatory profile(following the Rankin guide) but the user gets either inistantly logged out or the desktop doesn't stop flashing black and they can't do anything. I'm more than happy to stick everyone on a Mandatory profile if I can get it to actually work. The computers are traditional HDD's, so I'm not expecting 20 second logins, but 4-5 minutes will be unacceptable for the majority of staff/pupils. Thanks,

Have done that this morning. I'm now at the point where Office apps will only auto sign in if the users opens Outlook first. Otherwise word(for example) opens without the user being signed in.

Hey, So far I've just followed the MS Guide for Hybrid domain join https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/devices/hybrid-azuread-join-managed-domains. SSO has also been enabled in AD Connect & Azure. I know it's possible with Office 2016, as we had it working at my last school(not setup by me). Although ADFS was used rather than AD Connect. So I'm at the point where SSO works for Office 365 Via IE(despite MS guidance saying it should work in Chrome, it doesn't) I just want to extend it to office so users have instant access to their OneDrive.

HI, How can I get Office 2016 SSO working, so that for example when a user opens Word it's automatically logged in and they have instant OneDrive access. Or they open Outlook and don't have to do that initial config screen. we use Azure AD connect with password hash and SSO enabled for Office 365 web access. Also have Hybrid domain join setup in Azure so that domain Windows 10 pc's automatically join Azure AD. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for that. After trying a few things on Veam I think it's a fault with the drive itself. It's perfectly happy moving tapes around and scanning the barcode on tapes, but I can't get it to read/write anything on a tape. Will look into getting it fixed. Otherwise I think it'll be better looking into Veam Cloud Connect, as otherwise we're looking at £1500-£2000 for the new unit, plus about £50-£70 per tape for LTO 7 tapes.
