Evening All, Yesterday my Veam tape backup failed. We've got a HP 1/8 G2 autoloader which up until Monday morning has been working perfectly. Veam itself is saying 'the tape drive has a problem with the application client interface:' I've ran the diagnostics program on the autoloader and it didn't report anything and I've also tried a different SAS cable. Just to test I also restarted the Veam server. Further in the Veam logs I've found 'Alert ID 32' which according to hpe documentation means 'Command Sending to robotic failed' I'm able to run tasks through the autoloaders web interface such as moving tapes around and running an inventory. It just can't seem to do anything through Veam(including running the backup). Any advice on whether it's a Veam issue or there is a hardware fault with the tape drive? It's at least 6 years old so there's no warranty on it. Thanks, Chris

We've had intermittant cases of that happenning when users connect to our BYOD network and the Aruba ap's not passing on details. Are you using the User ID agent or the agentless method for user ID?

Update from me. Have done some digging on the Palo Alto community forum and some people say that've had no problem at all with Vmotion, others have had the license invalidated by the move. Apartantly it depends if the VM UUID changes during the move.

Thats the interesting thing! It just says in Palo Alto documentation that the virtual firewall doesn't support vmotion. It doesn't say what happens if you do and no one on our reseller support team knows.

Morning, We have a Palo Alto VM-300 which has been running well for a few months now. This summer we're doing a server refresh and replacing our old ESX servers. According to Palo Alto the VM firewall doesn't support Vmotion, but does anyone know what happens if you do vmotion the firewall(either while running or shut down)? As the firewall is going to have to move hosts for the server refresh, I just need to find out whether doing so will break it completely. Thanks, Chris

Many thanks for the feedback. We're after the two node setup, three is overkill for us. Unless Management decice to go over my head, We're likely to get the Equinox. On paper it offeres the best performance and is cheaper than the traditional quotes I've had.

As others have said, there's a lot in SCCM. With Device Collections you can be as specific or vague as you need. I tend to group by either the job title of staff requesting software(if it's on their office PC), room numbers or department. Or for things that are needed everywhere I have collections for all desktops or all laptops. My task sequence is generic and only contains software that every computer must have. The task sequence also puts computers into an OU called SCCM Computers(if it's a brand new computer). Once built I move the pc to it's proper OU. if it's a rebuild then it stays in its existing OU and keeps it's name. Whatever you decide, take your time are prepare for lots of trial & error.

Morning All, Has anyone got any experince of Stone's Equinox? I've had a quote for a 24 or 32TB 2 node setup as part of a server/storage refresh this summer. I'm leaning towards the Equinox overall so it'd be handy to know of real world experiences with it. Thanks, Chris

Thank you! Assuming I change to SAML authentication, would existing users Gsuite file be safe?

We currently provision all Gsuite accounts manually and it's something I'd very much like to change. I've found this(link) Microsoft page on setting up Gsuite to sync with AzureAD(which we have syncing with AD through Azure AD Connect). However I'm just wondering what will happen to my existing Gsuite accounts once I set this up? Will their password be changed to their AD/AzureAD password or am I getting mixed up and this sync only syncs accounts rather than passwords? Apologies if this sounds stupid, I've never managed Gsuite before.

From our perspective, we have a WPA2 Enterprise BYOD network which all pupils/staff can connect to with their AD credentials. It's a Cisco solution with a 5508 controller and a mixture of Cisco access points. We're not in the business of managing their personal devices, but our firewall alerts us if a specific device is accessing something that they'd only access if they were infected. The BYOD network has no access to other internal resources, only Planet Estream, our intranet page and Papercut mobile printing service. The same web filtering applies to users regardless of method of access(firewall does it on Staff/Pupil basis rather than origin device). Although we do SSL Decryption on domain pcs, we're not doing it for BYOD devices. Works quite well for us. We have the view that we'd rather they use our resources and if things are too restrictive, they'll just switch to 4G which we have no control over,

Ours are prefixed APX-ROOMNUMBER where X refers to the model number. They're then logged on spreadsheet with serial number, mac address location and such.

We look a personal devices on a best endeavour basis. Anything that involves a fresh OS reinstall or a hardware fault is a big no no for us.

We have a pair of Cisco 4500X switches in our core, although we don't stack them as they're in separate server rooms. This gives us 10Gbps to edge stacks, distribution switches, and the other core switch. Also agree that it's better not to daisy chain your switches.

We use Oliver by Softlink(albeit locally hosted). Don't have many problems with it and our Librarian is happy with Softlink support/

To finish my own thread. No one here is admitting to doing it, but certain random switch ports were configured for a max POE output of 15.4 watts. Changing the port back to auto(as it should have been) has sorted the problem!

Will give this a try. It's at our junior school, so will ask the tech to swap it. Afraid neither of these commands work on the AP.

Good Afternoon all, Just hoping for some advice with a problem that we've got with two access points. They're online and registered with the controller, but both radios on both access points are down. At this stage we've tried restarting, factory resetting and manually disabling & enabling the radios without any success. I don't think it's a POE problem as other access points receiving the same amount of power are still working. Thanks, Chris

From the bosses point of view we'd miss out on new access points, which wouldn't necessarily support the controller. He's already taken the decision to replace them, it's just a case of 'with what'. But yes, not replacing them this year would mean finance taking the money back and reducing our budget next year!

We’re replacing them as that’s our budgeted year for it, plus August 2019 is the last date for software releases and the boss gets funny with kit not in support/getting updates. We have had them 7 years, so they’ve served well!

Just wondering whether anyone on here has had any experience with a Cisco Virtual Wireless Controller? We currently have three Cisco 5508 controllers that are due to be replaced next year and are thinking the virtual controller will be a good replacement. At this stage we'd prefer to stick with Cisco as otherwise we'd need to replace all 200+ access points or run down the existing solution as they reach end of life. Thanks in advance! Chris

We deploy the Windows feature updates via SCCM as required. Have it setup as an upgrade and half way through it runs our script to remove all of the rubbish. Haven't had any problems with it. Newer computers take about 30 minutes, old ones take a few hours.

Many thanks! Appears to have fixed the issue on my computer. Will try on a few more and report back. Was slightly odd through as I already had the May update installed, so installing the latest July cumulative update fixed it.
