I'm thinking OGC is Office Government Contract? Not heard of that one can you tell me more please?

I'm looking for a decent but economic printer for general classroom use. this would be shared by circa 20 workstations. Anyone found a printer they swear by for reliability and value?

Konked out round about 2ish in Devizes but it seems to be back up again now.

We have just added a 2nd DC to our domain so we now have a mixed XP Pro and Windows 7 Pro client base with the main DC being on the print server which is a Windows 2008 Standard machine and the 2nd DC being a new one running Server 2008 R2 that incorporates SIMS as well. In testing last week we found that initial staff log on was pretty slow but they speeded up on a second logon. Today though a bigger issue became apparent, involving printing. Printers have been allocated by .bat files pointing to a vbs printer script file plus where Windows 7 machines are in the same room group policy and Print Manager. The issue today that remains unresolved is that where the printers that have been added by an Admin were visible for all they are now wiped after either an Admin, Staff or Student logon. So to print the user has to add the printer again but it’s vanished again next time they log on. I have remed out con2PRT to see if that made any difference – it hasn’t . My feeling is it must be something pretty simple but for the life of me I can’t figure it out. Any ideas please?

Updated the Head's PC to Windows 7 with IE9 over the break. He now finds that he gets a oops message and can't open Plans in Granada Learnings Schools Centre - tried the obvious like trusted sites and compatability view but to no joy. Anyone else had a problem with this and did you manage to sort it?

A few of our students have a problem running MS Office Access (2010 version) in that a box popps up saying that the database cannot be opened because the VBA project contained in it cannot be read. By holding down Enter eventually it opens. Screenshot attached:

Having been a complete failure at School - left with no quals and went to work on the family farm. I was lucky enough to have access to the Royal Air Force Education services where I picked up a decent batch of 'O' Levels then going on to 6 years with the OU which saw me graduate with a BSc in 1993. I wonder if with all the cuts the Forces continue to offer support like they gave me toward gaining a degree; somehow I doubt it?

Someone was trying to download and make available the primary element discussed in this thread. There is a URl in that thread that seems to point to the Strategy for 14 - 19 year olds if that's of any help. Perhaps they haven't got round to archiving the rest yet?

I notice that one of our more recent advertisements comes from The Benenden Healthcare Society. I can highly recommend this organisation. My wife (ex Civil Service) has membership which I think costs something like £15 a month. I have now used the service several times and in my recent case after my GP referred me to the consultant at the local NHS hospital the appointment came through for 2 months time. Getting in touch with Benenden they offered to have me in for the complete works at their hospital in Kent or fund to a limit a consultant visit and tests at a local private hospital. I opted for the latter and passed details on to my GP. The same day the consultants secretary rang me offering an appointment that afternoon or one next week. I will be seen by the consultant and most probably as in my previous cases, then be put on their list for treatment at the local NHS hospital. A terrific service well worth the subscription.

Thanks FN and Michael - that was my thinking as well but in case I'd missed something I had to ask and I'm still curious to discover if any of the Educational establishments have abandoned MS / Linux and gone further down a whole Mac route.

Recently we set up a new Samsung Laser printer by allocating it a static IP address and as it's used exclusively in one classroom deploying it by it's IP address to clients in that room. We have tried adding it to the printer script for that room but it refuses to play with either the IP address nor the name that it now appears with at it's homepage and in DNS. Is there a naming convention for allocating direct connected printers that we need to be following to get the script to run happily?

I'm curious are many educational establishments running Mac Server in preference to Windows or Linux domains? Talking to an Apple enthusiast today he told me that it surprised him that schools were not running Mac server set ups in preference to Windows Domains. He reckoned that a Mac Server could do the job far better - and cheaper?

Had a superb system installed in our Server Room which was probably one of the hottest rooms in the school. well under £2K money very well spent in my opinion.

Solved. Windows 7 had somehow decided to switch off 'display desktop icons' !

This seems to tie in to the thread I recently started where some of our Windows 7 machines have also been having this issue. It seems to me that this is one of those PITA issues that has arrived with Windows 7 that makes users want to revert to XP! Deleting Local profiles seems to be doing the trick with our machines but what a flipping pain!!

If this were me I'd be getting Parliamentarians involved. Sometimes just the fact they are aware of the case and you can in this case point out to Amazon that they are looking at it helps. Mind having said that the last few things I have pushed toward 'elected representatives' have been answered from behind the shroud of protocols which to me is just frustrating. To me you write to someone about something like this and they give a straight answer not pass it to someone else because protocol dictates they do so! In this case though you never know but possibly your MP has had a raft of other similar complaints landing in their in tray and just maybe they can do something about it. It certainly seems wrong to me that your buyer has kept the goods and not had to pay anything for them just on the strength of colour perception.

Recently I have had a couple of (so far non networked) Windows 7 Pro machines that have 'lost' the user desktops post latest updates. Anyone else had this issue?

Our KS3 for boys school is looking for interesting venues to visit with the boys - venues that apart from transport are cost free. Nothing springs to my mind but I'm hopeful that sharper brains lurking on EduGeek might come up with a few ideas?
