  1. Voted, neighbour!
  2. Thanks for the suggestion Michael, I'm pretty sure that's not the issue though. I have managed to move some individual folders with no problem at all. The one I want to move though is a mighty folder of some 40GB in size. Oddly, it's sitting in one of my teachers profiles at the moment making her log on slow, she doesn't need the data but I'd rather archive it than delete at this stage.
  3. Better health than I have had this year and less family problems!
  4. Thanks K.C. No the HD is fine.
  5. I'm trying to archive some old stuff off our MS 2008 Standard DC to an external HD. However, it's not playing, I get preparing to copy or move it whizzes through a few files then nothing happens and the action bar vanishes. The external is set to full permissions for Everyone - do I need to set it's permissions differently?
  6. Had this problem but in our case it was MS Office 2010 Word. Turned out to be a Trust Centre issue we downloaded and applied amongst other bits the GP Side Extension for XP 64 Bit along with ensuring Office 2010 had picked up all the latest updates and touch wood, that seems to have sorted it. This TechNet article is very useful.
  7. Can anyone recommend a good Mac Tech with CRB clearance in the Bath area please. I'm looking to get someone with more Mac expertise than me in to give our Macs a health check.
  8. Done - crazy what they are trying to do.
  9. We are currently trying to set a printer group in Group Policy for a batch of Windows 7 clients. We have 3 printers that they need to access - two are fine but the third is proving a tad tricky. The printer has a reservation in DHCP and I'm trying to use the IP address as the path but that does not work - what should I be putting?
  10. What's the general feeling on reliability of Apple Macs on a Windows Domain? I ask as we have a mix here of some 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7 Macs and there too frequently seem to be issues with them not being happy with our MS Domain. The main problem seems to be time differences with the DC!!
  11. Any recommendations please for a decent A3 printer / scanner suitable for a GCSE Art classroom?
  12. We recently upgraded our main printer and the chap who does our timetables came to me today complaining that since then his timetables out of Office 2010 Excel have extra lines (horizontal) added. Printer driver is defo ok. Print preview looks clean but the printed article has extra horizontal lines all over the document and even including the - what should be white space at the end of the document?
  13. Oh Yea - I was on hold for 35 minutes before resorting to e-mail for which I got an immediate response and as usual problem resolved. Fabulous software thanks. Strangely, slightly hijacking the thread my 85 year old mum who has one of those council provided emergency care alarms switched from BT to Sky recently and this afternoon discovered her phone line had dropped off. Sky who identified the issue as a down line engineering problem gave a best offer is to look at the problem within the next 48 hours. now that's disgusting service. The Council were no better saying that it was nothing they could do anything about either! Luckily, a family member is able to stay with mum overnight in case of emergency.
  14. Thanks Steve, Newbie I am for sure to VBS Can you explain what I'm missing in greater detail please.
  15. Ok folks. I'm not going great guns with this vbs thing so thought I'd post up the content of our current printer script. the big thing that makes me head scratch is the fact there have been a lot of clients added since the script was last altered yet they seem to be picking up the default printer correctly from somewhere. Tomorrow that beastie gets put into retirement and a new machine takes it's place - gulp! Set WshNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network") Dim CN CN = WSHNetwork.ComputerName if CN = "HIPHOP3" or _ CN = "HIPHOP4" or _ CN = "HIPHOP6" or _ CN = "STAFFROOM2" or _ CN = "STAFFROOM3" or _ CN = "STAFFROOM5" or _ CN = "YOUR-E641889C92" or _ CN = "MSILAPTOP-KP" then WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\LBROOM1\HPROOM5" WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\************-DC1\AP3800C-PCL5c" WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\LBROOM1\HPROOM5" end if if CN = "FJSULNO1" or _ CD = "M2No4" or _ CD = "New55" or _ CD = "MATHS72" or _ CD = "M2No2" or _ CD = "M2No1" or _ CD = "New61" or _ CD = "DUPLONE" then WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\************-DC1\AP3800C-PCL5c" WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\************-DC1\Ricoh Aficio 2060 PCL6" WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\************-DC1\Ricoh Aficio 2060 PCL6" end if if CN = "LBROOM1" then WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\************-DC1\AP3800C-PCL5c" WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "hp psc 700 series" end if if CN = "DOWNLOAD-CIZD2K" or _ CD = "MATHS2" or _ CD = "MATHS4" or _ CD = "MATHS5" or _ CD = "MATHS6" or _ CD = "MATHS7" or _ CD = "MATHS8" then WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\MATHS1\HPPSC700" WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\MATHS1\HPPSC700" end if if CN = "TD7" or _ CD = "td1" or _ CD = "td2" or _ CD = "kh12" or _ CD = "td4" or _ CD = "td8" or _ CD = "td10" or _ CD = "technology1" or _ CD = "ict-room" then WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\TD7\JBN" WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\ict-room\RolandMO" WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\************-DC1\AP3800C-PCL5c" WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\************-DC1\Ricoh Aficio 2060 PCL6" WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\************-DC1\AP3800C-PCL5c" end if if CN = "CYBERXP1" or _ CD = "CYBERXP2" or _ CD = "NEC100" then WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\XPSTATION1\BROTHERH" WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\XPSTATION1\HPPSC750" WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\XPSTATION1\BROTHERH" end if if CN = "ITHS02" or _ CD = "ITHS03" or _ CD = "ITHS04" or _ CD = "ITHS05" or _ CD = "ITHS06" or _ CD = "ITHS07" or _ CD = "ITHS08" then WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\ITHS01\hppsc750" WshNetwork.AddwindowsPrinterConnection "\\ITHS01\RolandGX24" WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\ITHS01\hppsc750" end if
  16. Did you crack the prblem Bodminman. If so I'd be interested to hear how
  17. Bump - are we the only school having this issue?
  18. I'm looking for a decent but not expensive (probably laser) printer for use in a remote classroom. This is a KS3 English classroom where class sizes is up to 8 students (EDB). Cost of replacement cartridges will no doubt be a big factor. I know that in the past Konica had a good name for being Green?
  19. Thanks Steve, As the vbs sits in the scripts file in the Netlogon folder I was assuming that they must have. Perhaps not - how would I check they are enabled to run it on logon?
  20. We have been having a few printer issues of late so I decided to make my first venture forth into vbs. Found the printers . vbs file. Made a copy of it and edited for one XP Pro room, Ran the vbs file locally and it did almost all I wanted logged on with admin rights - the exception being it failed to change the default printer. Then copy and pasted my edited room into the Netlogon Scripts printers . vbs file. Logging on as a student a couple of hours after this though it failed to apply at setting just one domain printer and leaving MS XPS Document Writer as the default. Why would this be happening?
  21. Our issues with MS Office 2010 continue to plague us. All seems to work fine as an admin. However as a student, despite having the relevant GPO now set specific to Word for the Trust Centre issue on some client PCs the student can open but not save Word. Additionally, we have printer issues - print sent as a student to either of our Ricoh machines (2060 and 3800C) result in missed text - headers, some letters particular capital I s and lower case f s. Clearly not a driver issue as Admin prints are ok?
  22. One of our Macs recently dropped off our Windows domain. Trying to get it back on I have checked the obvious things like time sync etc. however, what i have notice is after locking preferences and shutting down and restarting going into Network again after finding that yet again it failed to log onto the domain preferences is already unlocked?
  23. Thanks tom, it's knowing what to block though that seems to be half the battle - xxxx in any image search for example brings images that link to some ugh sites - on the other hand as xxxx et al is in many items of Internet based content then we found that by adding aaa to xxx brought our e-mail system to an unworkable state as messages with those strings refused to display or delete!! Additionally if the searches are tightened down too much food tech students for example searching for Apple Pie can't pull any images up! It seems that folk are posting images more frequently with unrelated titles to the image hence the students are finding them more often, sometimes inocently.
  24. SWGfL is our ISP and recently we have been finding that despite many tweaks too many images not suitable for KS3 students are making their way through the filters. We have a duty to prevent this. I have asked in a similar thread already but now I have the ear of the management and the promise of funding I'm trying to establish which is the best value and most effective package to buy in. It's a great shame that Yahoo, Bing, Google etc are failing on this - that said at least with Google you do have the option to report offensive images.
  25. Hey - not a problem. The responses have been hugely useful to me as well. Looks like I need to speak to Net-Ctrl support about securing them via our ruckus. Goodish news is these are not for the boys but management!
