We recently had training toward making better use of SIMS. Specifically we want to running the timetable and class registers through it. However, we now realise that to achieve this we need to buy in Nova T6 to achieve this. From training courses our Admin staff have been on they have picked up that Nova sometimes does not work happily with the rest of the SIMS package - what's the feeling toward it here please?
-
I asked a similar question in this thread about the Hemmings assessment package one of my teachers is keen on using and from reading the very useful answers here suspect the SIMS route is the way forward for our school as well. We had an excellent TD day by Michelle from Capita on the very subject yesterday.
-
Not anyone else using this software then?
-
I have a teacher who wants to use Hemmings Assessment software. This software seems to need a SQL database to run off. I see we have SQL on our Curriculum server but as I'm not up to speed on it wondered if anyone else uses the assessment software and has any advice please.

With you there boys. I'm still really annoyed that to watch F1 I would need Sky - I'm not going there. If the TV licence I pay doesn't get it then I'm not watching it.

Well done that lady - couldn't have put it better if I'd tried.

Cripes - sorry about the Typo folks - dyslexia! One question on this that runs through my mind is what about security - is it HTTPS access?

Looking for pointers on the way to go with class registration and behaviour recording via portable devices. we have SIMS in place and their Emerge seems to do offer most of what we need but Bromcom's TWF seems to do a bit more?

We have 3 Samsung Mono Laser network printers that we want to share over the network - presumably to set them up we run the supplied software on the print server but after htat when the printers are plugged into the lan how do we go about identifying them and ensuring they all pick up correctly over the network.

Gave you a TY for this mate. However, this particular service has dumped on many of us far too often and we are the folk in the middle fielding the 'my easymail, my internet' isn't working calls. I'm usually at the top of the tree when it comes to supporting the boys and girls at SWGfL as they have given me heaps of support over the years but on this occasion it's just one failure too many.
-
This sadly seems to happen with SWGfL far too often. Are there other options we could look at I wonder?
-
Oh yea Oh yea. Easymail dropping off and on.

Thanks Steve. Defo interested in this.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I'm curious - what charging trollies are best for these smaller devices and what security do people surround them with - do you engrave them, label or what?

From my reading of the many very helpful threads on Edugeek on 'The Magic Triangle' and to get our Artroom Macs happier with our windows 2008 domain I'm thinking thst we probably need a Mac Mini Server. Looking around I see that it's just the basic Mac Mini Server that comes out of the box - no monitor, mouse nor keyboard - is that right or am I (as I often am) right up the wrong gumtree! If I'm right presumably you remote access - or what? Be gentle with me folks it's only a question!!

We are still getting sporadic Trust Centre issues with MS Office 2010 -on both Windows XP Pro and Windows 7 computers. Is there an easy solution that we have missed?
-
Thanks Steve, That makes sense. My thinking from the help that's been coming in on this thread is that the vbs was never a happy vbs and the added dc2 running Server 2008 R2 has somehow tightened things up so it's even more of a failure. trouble is my vbs knowledge is minimal!! So, I have been a bit all at sea with trying to sort it out.

Thanks DaveP, I'm hopeful that this will be the situation with us as well. Mindful that this issue started after a 2nd DC was added to the domain it seems pretty logical thinking about it that the vbs will need a tweak or 30 to specify more exactly where the printer allocated lives. Being a fairly newbie to this I'm not sure how I would specify the location of a printer that's USBd on a workstation. I have one that gets listed as TD7\JBN for example - and coincidentally that's a PC that errors on boot up complaining about that printer path. Am I right in thinking that I'd need to amend it to domainname\td7\jbn now?

We have a Windows 2008 Domain with a mix of XP Pro and Windows 7 Professional Clients. Been having a bit of an issue with printer deployment that’s just getting worse with every tactic I try – grr! I think it’s something to do with my vbs file?? We have been using a printer.vbs – which appears to run but recently after log on the only print options left for students and staff are Onenote, Fax and PDF. Network printers can then be found and added but at the next logon of that user they have gone again. Our domain has a DC1 running Windows Server 2008 Standard 32 Bit OS and a DC2 running Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit OS. Print manager is enabled on DC1 and also 2 rooms that have exclusive Windows 7 deployed computers are allocated their printers via group policy – these machines do not appear in the vbs file. We have 3 user OUs Admin, Staff and Student. Staff and student pick up the vbs at log on but Admin don’t and again Admin keep their deployed printers. So yet again this suggests to me that something in the vbs is screwed. Any advice on how to sort this mess out would be very welcome. I'm not sure this is the correct thread to post this in so if not mods my apologies and please move as you wish.

We recently relocated an Epson EMP-83H projector but in it's new location it refuses to work. Green light comes on and lamp shines briefly but then dumps out to a flashing temp lamp and after a minute or so shuts down. Filters cleaned and air dusted. Any further suggestions please folks?
