  1. Seems to me that many of these multi part programmes need to be writted with the end in mind. The recent Hidden starring Philip Glenister and many other great actors being a prime example. To me the first episode was watchable but not edge of seat stuff, episode two was absolutley fabulous but the final part completely ran out of steam and failed to present the gripping conclusion it needed.
  2. I'm seeking some guidance on profiles specific to Windows 7 64 bit Pro Notebooks. We recently had a batch of new Toshibas in and having cleared off the clutter - Amazon, Skype, E-bay etc want to set them up for student use. The default power settings are 3 minutes and require password re entry to get back on and when that happens network drives have disconnected and need a restart to bring them back. Seems to me like we need to change that setting by default specific to the laptop. I'm thinking I need to do it in the Default Profile but I'm not clear on how to go about that? Bit of guidance would be much appreciated.
  3. It's 10.4 we are having the issue with but likely 10.6 as well?
  4. Our Art teacher this morning found that her Macs were not able to connect to the networked printers with a message coming up saying Unable to connect to SAMBA host.. I can't find anything that solves the problem - anyone got suggestions please?
  5. As usual Sysman_mk does his magic - what a transformation.
  6. Wish I'd seen this on the last day of term!
  7. Has anyone run a thread on which Office software is being used / considered in our schools. My School is an Emotionally Disturbed Boys (EDB) school for KS3. Till recently Office 2003 has been the bedrock but finding licenses were umh a bit out of kilter we recently signed up for the schools agreement entitling us to Office 2010. Now deployed - howls of protest!! As with many schools we have a few Apple Mac machines they currently don't have anything other than the Apple software on board.
  8. On the rise again now ? With the departure of the Terry Sweeney CEO RTT News in comes Martyn Ratcliffe steps up to Executive Chairman.
  9. Whatever - it's a cracking deal especially if you shop around when it comes to purchasing the contract - huge variation in price.
  10. A beaut - your old site is no disgrace either! Someone has worked hard on all of it. Love the video clip, a real celebration of success, what did / do you use to do it and what's the position on license for use of the soundtrack?
  11. Thanks to the three of you who recently found the BAT file useful. Just wish I could remember details of the female techie who gave it to me in the first place. I have used it many hundred times since and silently thank her every time I use it. Thankfully there are a lot of good folk about that help make the techie world go round smoother. Off thread I include in that the expert at the Bath Apple store who fixed my Art teachers iMack on Thursday and gave me several useful pointers for any future encounters I have with Black screen iMacks - all for Free! That particular machine had the OS disk stuck in it and wouldn't boot - it was either removal and plugging in the power lead from the back of the unit or reseating the RAM that brought it back to life.
  12. I reckon we are all waiting with baited breath - whatever that means!
  13. Needed to be list in order of choice! Whisky Rum Vodka Wine Cider Lager Ale Would be mine.
  14. Hope you get it mate. Well done for your progress so far. We are all rooting for you.
  15. This afternoon at home my ex directory phone rang and the chap who told me he was called Ryan speaking with a distinct Indian Continent voice with background noise from a very busy call centre went on to tell me that my Windows computer had been identified as running slow because it was infected with a very prevalent virus. Matey then asked me to turn the computer on so that his technicians could check it out and fix it! Telling him I didn't have Windows but only Linux and Mac didn't deter him too much he persisted telling me that the company he represented (IT Solutions - a web search identifies several legit companies under that name) was working for Windows to sort this global problem out. I then pointed out to him that if I did have a Windows PC with an issue I'd simply pop a new hard disk in and reinstall a clean OS. He told me that a new HD and OS wouldn't solve the problem - it would still be infected! Asking him for a telephone number he gave me a number prefixed with 0203 ringing the number later it rang through to some innocent plumber. What disturbed me was he fact this scammer had my phone number, name and address. He gave up after about 10 minutes realising I wasn't taking the bait but did reveal that fixing the "problem" would cost no more than £30. I'm presuming that if these people do con some person to switch their PC on they are directed to an iffy web where a trojan downloads - I wonder how many people actually fall for it and more to the point what is our Government doing to bring these evil gits to justice?
  16. I'd get a installer to give a quote for purpose built units. That way you can get the heights right and cabling ducts in the most useful places.
  17. Further on this issue. This problem is isolated to five HP Z200 SFF Workstations (Product No: kk655et). They were working ok with Word saves then suddenly started to refuse to save anything new to documents and similtaniously stopped Word shutting down. I have tried a repair and reboot - still the same issue for students persists. Workstations are running XP Pro SP3 and all other Office 2010 components save fine. Right puzzeler?
  18. Further on this. After dumping the document the student was trying to save then trying to close Word 2010 a MS Word message pops up saying: Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal. Do you want to save those changes? Clicking Save then trying to close Word again brings up the same message. Clicking Don't save gets out of Word. Like I said before it's only Word 2010 that's playing up and it seems to be only the student accounts on these workstations.
  19. Have a strange issue where Office 2010 Word will intermittently not save work for users. The only thing I have noticed on the student desktop that raised interest is their Document folder has a red cross in a small white coloured box to the left of the top left corner. However, they can access their documents - the issue seems to be with just any new document they try to save or trying to save changes to an existing document. Office 2010 has defo been activated so it's nothing to do with that. Other Office 2010 programmes don't seem to be effected. The Workstation is a good spec and connects to the Domain via Ruckus.
  20. Why oh why is it the powers that be are ALWAYS tinkering with this very important stage of life. Surely by now it should have all been sorted out and the best models universally adopted. Goodness knows the Politicians etc., spend enough time on jollies looking at what works in other countries. Crikey if it was a stable system everyone would know where they stood and money could be saved - perhaps enough money to bring the University fees down to a sensible level?
  21. Thanks Geoff and Tom - I Tweeted and found it last night and sent Notch a message. I'll post any update here.
  22. Thanks all. Especially Michael. Apologies for getting you into trouble with the MOD'S mate.
  23. Thanks Michael. Is there an easy way of updating things such as Flash, Reader and Java - our clients need to be logged on as an Admin before it happens locally.
  24. Any suggestion on how to contact them; I can't find an e-mail contact so tried their Forum but the topics aren't really relevant?
  25. I'd endorse that: And add they are even helpful on leaning on manufactures as well. I'm pretty miffed with HP not supplying a Windows 7 32 bit driver for their relatively new Laser Jet 3600 and have been complaining about that - our account manager at Misco is also chasing them. No joy so far but I have made it clear we won't be buying any HP kit unless they sort it. Delivery from Misco is hard to beat as well. I ordered 32 workstations and TFT's at 1600 hours one afternoon they arrived at 0730 hours the next morning.
