I don't know if anyone can help me. Any sort of help is much appreciated. We currently have a VMWare installed and we have Wyse thin clients running them in a classroom. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to get Ranger Remote working in a VDI environment? I have contacted RM, and they told me to install it like it was a normal machine, but this didn't work and I'm not surprised. Has anyone tried and eventually successful in getting this running? I wondered if anyone can help me. I'm having issues with Promethean Boards. We are running Windows 7 64bit on laptops with boards that were installed last February. I have installed ActivInspire 1.8 and the latest driver v5.10 which I upgraded from v5.7. It is installed on a laptop, which the teacher uses as their main machine and takes it offsite. This happens everyday. When they come back to school, they are reporting that the board doesn't work. All I do is re-start the laptop and it works fine after that. Now, I convinced I know what the problem is, but the teacher doesn't seem to be listening so I just want confirmation. The one thing that the teacher does is put the laptop into standby, unplugs everything from the laptop and takes it home. Then, she comes back (laptop still in standby) and plugs it all back in again and starts the laptop. But the board doesn't interact and not recognised by the laptop. She moans and moans, I come along and the driver still thinks the board is plugged in even though its removed. I restart the laptop (in front of her) and it works again. She is convinced theirs a problem with the board, but I'm sure its user misuse in not shutting down their laptop correctly. We have older boards in school and she said before she moved classroom it wasn't a problem. So, my question is: Is there a board issue or is the fact the laptop is in standby mode when the board is removed the issue. I've tried other laptops and I haven't experienced any issues. I have re-imaged the laptop and updated the laptop BIOS. Many thanks

Hello everyone Hope all is well in the ICT world in schools. I was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm looking to buy the Microsoft Open Value Subscription for Office for a primary school as I think it is good value as it's not based on the number of machines but the number of full time staff. Now heres my question as I'm getting some conflicting info (not suprised as it's Microsoft). Is it based on any full time staff in school that uses the computers (for example the premises officer etc) or is it based on just the full time teaching staff (teachers and LSA's) which I believe is anyone who works over 12 hours a week? Any help is much appreciated Many thanks

Just thought I would add to this.. I look after four primary schools and two are running CC4 and two are running vanilla networks with either Win 7 or XP. From my experience of both, a CC4 network seems to be more problematic than a vanilla network. As said before if you have a good IT Tech then you will probably find that he just gets frustrated with the RM system as I have. So I would avoid it even in the future. A well installed vanilla network is a lot more flexible. Also the cost of just adding a computer is increased. I've just had a quote for the software alone and you have the RM software pack is around £180 per machine and just for a client licence its £75. Justs add to the cost of the initial computer.

Hi Everyone I'm having a problem with Moodle in a primary school and I've ran out of ideas so just thought I'll through this out tho the masses! Right. The school has Moodle as their VLE. It's hosted off site and they haven't had an issue with it until recently. The issue I'm having, is that some computers randomly stop being able to access the Moodle site. When they type in the URL, internet explorer hangs and then after a time it says page cannot be displayed. Nothing has changed over the time its was never a problem to now beeing a pain in the bum. I have contacted the company that is hosting our Moodle site and they say there are no issues with them. I have also contacted EMBC (ISP) and they say they filtering system isn't blocking it and RM (as we have a CC4) aren't interested (nothing unusual there then!!). After hours of playing on one of the computers in the suite that is having this issue I thought that I would try to setup a static IP address for that machine rather than a DHCP, and it works. I have googled the problem and only found one person with the simular issue, but he hasn't got back to me (been 2 months!). I need help as its on random computers. Putting ALL the computers on a static IP is a solution but on some machines this still doesn't work. Also, 150 Laptops and 30 machines is a lot to do, so I was seeing if anyone else has got any ideas on what I can try.... Any help much appreciated.

As far as I'm aware, the ungrade is still free sparkeh. You have to call Promethean with a vaild serial number of the board that you want to upgrade and they provide you with a serial key for Activ Inspire. I look after 4 schools and three of them I have upgarded to Inspire without any issues. Another positive is that both Activ PX and Inspire run side by side, so you can leave ActivPX on there and slowly get the teachers to use inspire. Works a dream, and it means that you won't get any grief from the teachers that prefer to use the old version.

Hello Everyone! Happy new year to you all I wondered if someone can help me at all. One of the schools I manage still runs ActivPX (don't ask me why) and I have eventually persuaded them they need to update to ActivPrimary. The ICT Co-Ordinator seems to think that this can be done for free, but I doubt that, but I thought I would throw the question out to the you guys. So can it be done for free, and if not where is the best place of purchase? Any help is much appreciated

Thaks for the reply. I tried it and this has worked, cheers. I was hoping that there was another sort of fix. But as long as it works then the teachers will be happy!! Would this solve the issue on other sites?

Hi Everyone First time on here so bare with me! Just wondered if anyone could help. I work in a school that has got an RM CC4 network installed. I'm quite impressed with it to be honest, but I'm having one problem that is driving me nuts!! When a child logs in a loads certain websites that uses shockwave player, for example word stars on the BBC schools website, it asks to install shockwave player and the compatability components. This fails as they can't be installed. Running the same website in Administrator, or SystemAdmin, loads the files then the website is fine back in pupil. But I can't do that on every website and every computer!! I've contacted RM but they haven't got an answer either. This is what i have done; 1. installed the latest version of Shockwave player 2. Uninstalled all versions of the shockwave player from the computer and reinstalled the old version 3. Transferred the Xtras (which is Located in C:\Windows\System32\Adobe\Shockwave11) files from one that machine that it does work on to another. 4. Checked registry settings on the sever, nothing seems to work here. I'm at a dead end. Any help would be much appreciated.
