I am a technician in primary schools and I have to agree with flatpackhamster. I have just moved to a company who provide ICT support to primary schools but previously I worked for the local council looking after 5 primaries. They do only tend ot have one technician so as already mentioned, it can be very hard to get into. You may be better looking at companies who provide that sort of support as they will be more willing to take on someone with less experience as they have back up and the resources to train and support you.

Tried a few times, still nothing. I have my contacts in a backup so not all lost, just panicked me a bit when i first saw it. Sometimes wish I was in the cloud

One thing I've just noticed. Even though it did tell me it would leave my data alone, including contacts I've just realised. all my contacts have vanished !!! good job I have a backup.

I did mine at 7pm last night, it took 2 attempts to download and one the second attempt it took just over 2 hours to download. The actual upgrade went ok without any problems.

Thanks for the replies. They echo the thouhts we were having. I don't see the point in changing things for the sake of changing them.

Hi Everyone, One of our customers, a Primary school with about 150 computers, have been approached by RM with a view to getting them to purchase CC4. they already have a fully functioning vanilla network, with no issues. They have a very compitant technician working there, can you guys think of any pluses for having cc4 installed? as far as I can see it's going to cost a fortune with no real benefits for the teachers or students. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

They like Windows XP. The know WIndows XP. The head doesn't like new things, hence the reason she didn't like Mac OSx. She knows XP, that's where she's comfortable. As for letting the mac mini sit there.. I can't.. I just can't.. I have to make it do something.. anything

Yup.. I tried.. but they wouldn't listen. I gave reasons for going Windows 7, if we were going over to Windows, but not having it. ALso, we now have a mac mini server sitting there doing very little. When I get chance I'm going to set it up as a file server and possibly a remote back up server, if I ever get 5 minutes.

Where abouts in Yorkshire are you? If you're in the South Yorkshire Area, Sigma IT in Rotherham are really good.

I have an entire Primary school full of Macbooks and iMacs all running Windows xp. Not just dual boot though, oh no.. the only OS on the machine !!! New head, didn't like Mac, but couldn't justify throwing the hardware away so wanted Windows on them instead.
