We currently have Photoshop licensed on 6 computers GCSE pjhotograph use on XP Pro Workstations. Our Art Dept would like it on their dozen or so Apple Macs so I'm trying to find out which deal and from where would be the best value?

Saw this https://www.iamlearning.co.uk/ posted by Helen Daykin on twitter offering a free trial of games based software useful for year 6 revision.

Thanks Ben - I knew this thread would have most of it's readers rolling about laughing. The lone Windows 2003 Server did at one stage sit on that mobile desk and the box sitting on it now is actually a cheapie Belkin UPS! The Servers now have their own Air Conditioned room and proper APC UPS boxes.

Right guys and gals this is the current input for the network in our school. We now have 4 servers and circa 150 devices running on the network. The core switch is currently a D-Link 24 port managed switch and as can be seen from ye olde photo the current kit protrudes so far out of this patch panel cabinet - which lives in the Staff Room (which reaches super heated temp some days in the Summer) that the glass door is permanently left open. We now have an HP ProCurve to become the core switch but obviously it won't fit in the cabinet. What's the recommendation for moving forward on this one please - we are scheduled for a full electrical rewire in the Summer hols.

We have a hugely useful Thread covering one of my EduGeek heroes Sysman_MKs EduGeek Joomla 1.5 package but now Joomla is well established in 2.5 and another of my EuuGeek heroes Steve Hill is busy working on a EduGeek version I was wondering if we could have a dedicated Topic. I was toying with going WordPress but have decided to stick with Joomla as I at least have an inkling of what it's about for my next site for my school. One question I'd like to kick about is what would be useful to include on the package upload as add ons - Akeeba etc I was thinking. That said it's a useless add on for me currently as the C-Panel version SWGfL provide with theire not cheap hosting is cut down and won't allow many functions like Kickstart to run so I'm probably looking at alternate hosting when - probably at the speed I move at in 5 years time my new site goes live!!

A List of Very Useful Applications for Educational Use

Thanks for the response and I fully agree. Just wonder what wonders he might have woven had the country had the sense to make him Prime Minister.

You certainly have a point there Disease but on the other hand the media have been unable to get a clear picture of the history of many a prominent politician when it comes to what they did or not in their younger years!

Very much moving toward agreeing with you Sheridan. The Lib Dems Policy never used to favour the honours system yet many a Lib Dem has been PDQ to accept one when offered. Overall it's just not a level playing field - Sir Patrick Moore the Astronomer was only knighted in his 80s after much public pressure, why on earth hasn't Stephen Hawking been recognised and if my memory serves correctly ex NCO Army PTI Kelly Holmes was announced as a Dame even before she left Melbourne! For Witch Ronnie O'Sullivan is a very plain speaking Londoner who has now won the World Championship four times. The guy who is equally able playing left or right handed is described by many experienced snooker commentator as "The most naturally gifted snooker player ever". One heck of an ambassador for UK sport.

Connecting iPads to whiteboards
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Has anyone any idea if Tether works with iPads one of my teachers is telling me we need to buy in Doceri to get IWB functions out of our iPads? All flipping new to me!!! -
Thanks for the input so far folks but the point I'm trying to make is that any system like his needs to be seen to be fair and I for one don't think that Kelly Holmes winning 2 Golds at an Olympics rates her any higher than the enormous amount of good will generated by the work Paula Radcliffe has also done for athletics. Equally to achieve what Ronnie O'Sullivan has in snooker has on the scale of things been huge for UK Plc yet, probably because he doesn't speak posh I suspect, the best he can look forward to is an M.B.E. I bet Ronnie's fitness training is just as rigorous as that of many top athletes and that's certainly the case when it comes to our F1 drivers.
-
Seems crazy to me that Kelly Holmes wins 2 Olympic gold medals and Straight Away is made a Dame, our rowers and cyclists are also equally quickly honoured yet Ronnie O'Sullivan wins the World Masters Snooker for the multiple time and not a blip of recognition. Same sort of goes for Paula Radcliffe who has surely done far more than many others for athletics but never seems to get the recognition I at least think she deserves. Surely if we need an honours system it should be fairly administered?

Done. Food for thought but I have so much "change" to encompass already it's currently a step too far for my school.

The other Steve Wright of Ipswich - I worked with his dad who is an absolutely fabulous person, and sure as heck didn't deserve the shame his son brought on the family. John Peters and John Nichol of Tornado Down fame from the First gulf war.

I'll be trying to hunt one down later but currently I fear that's as good as we have. The lass who drew it put it together in paint.

Director of IT at Springfields Academy Calne
speckytecky replied to speckytecky's topic in Educational IT Jobs
Application is by application form only (no CV's) and should be accompanied by a letter detailing your vision for 21st century teaching and learning and how your experiences equip you to lead at our Academy. Completed application forms should be returned to Mr Trystan Williams, Principal, by 9.00am on Tuesday 8th May 2012. Interviews will be held over 2 days on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd May 2012. The Springfields Academy, Curzon Street, Calne, Wiltshire, SN11 0DS OP link from local newspaper - which seems to have a system for assisting with submission of most jobs they advertise but it seems not this one. I think they left the links in as a editing error. -
Director of ICT | Job Details | The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald doesn't seem more than a year ago that they had a similar advert in for Network Manager at circa £37k Their own website doesn't list any vacancies?

Crikey - that is a super looking site well done to the builder.

No one else using these bits of kit then - not surprised as they are close on £500 a Unit! I'm sure it's something in the settings but the 40 page manual isn't easy reading:frusty:

Misco supplied ours - competitive price and next day delivery.

I'm having a problem with the phone unit I use at school. It's a EnGenius EP801 and the Base Unit works fine but the handset will only work on speakerphone - probably something simple I have done to it but I can't fathom out how to get it back to normal. Posting on here in the hope that someone has an answer! Using the handset in speakerphone mode it works perfectly. Turning off speakerphone so that I'm using the ear piece I can't hear any dial tone or voice from the other end but if connected they hear me. I have read the close on 40 page manual but can't find an answer:confused:
