Autodiscover is great if the email server is on the LAN, but this is an Office 365 server with a different set of credentials. Gareth

Evening all, Chatting with a colleague this evening and discussing it is possible to get users to authenticate against an Office 365 account but then pull in GPOs and settings from a local DC. Anyone done this? So the users would log into their Welsh Hwb 365 account bit pick up gpos and drive mappings/printers etc from the LEA network. If this worked - it could possibly solve a lot of issues. Gareth

I'm sure I setup ONeDrive once on my home machine so that it simply showed the files in an Explorer window and not download/sync them. They were clickable and opened in the correct apps, but just didn't sync. Or did I dream it. It's something we want to do - but the domain is different to our school 365 Gareth

Evening All, I'm after some advice on configuring the Outlook 2016 client so that the server/username/password details follow the user around (as they log on to different machines in school) - but we do not use roaming profiles and the email domain is seperate to the school domain and so cannot be auto-configured or auto-detected. Can it be pre-configured into a file that Outlook 2016 can load on startup? Does this make sense? I'm trying to avoid my staff having to log into their Office 365 account to read their email but need a way of configuring the desktop app one time (and then let it follow them). Cheers Gareth

Evening All, A little over two years ago, fellow Edugeekers supported me and the Runner's World competition I entered to run the Paris Marathon. Several of you donated money to a charity called CISS - which was suppprting one of my work colleagues during her times of support. I come to you now again cap in hand asking for a donation of £1 - no more, no less. This time, I am training for the Snowdonia Marathon in October. 18 weeks to go and I have no doubt that this will be the toughest marathon I have run. It will be my third. It is one of the toughest - several hills and some years runners go through four seasons in one day. The charity I am supporting for this run is another one close to our school. It's a Children's charity called 'Elusen Jac Bach Charity' - it is run by the daughter of a Maths teacher in our school and was setup when she lost a child (a twin). It's a sad story and can be read here. So I ask - if anyone wants to support then please do. Just £1, maybe £3 if you fancy missing that pint, but £1 is enough. Yip @apearson - We had training on the system today. It didn't go exactly to plan as the company (based in the US) had not setup our URL so we couldn't work with our installation. Training was good and the system is a lot better than 1.7.3 Version 9 promises to be even better as they move everything over to HTML 5 so more less dependancy on Flash. We've decided to move to the new version now. We originally paid a hefty packet for the site licence from RM but now it's gone to a subscription model so we will not be paying £850 per year. A lot better in my opinion. I am currently sat in the training session. It is at version 8 at the moment which is okay but the Maths side doesn't work on iPads due to the need to Flash. Version 9 is currently being trialled in America (where it is developed) and this will be 'flashless' - according to our trainer today. Looking forward to shutting the old server down and removing the application from our build (as it's all web based now). Gareth

Thank you everyone for the discussion and pointers on this. I think a new Windows 7 image will be made this week for the next 6 months. I'll wait for the updated 10 to arrive in the next few weeks and see how much improvements there are. Thank you Gareth

Thanks @DJ-1701 - I thought as much. I've never been a fan of iPads in secondary schools. Great for primary of course but not where demand is so high (like a Secondary). The Chromebooks on the other hand are a joy to work with. We only have 30 but are looking at another 60 in September. Gareth

Why is it so difficult to tie down iPads? I am currently using Apple Configurator 2 - but there are so many settings that cannot be set - Location Services is one of them. We have a legacy meraki account but I've never really used it. What are people out there using for supporting their iPads? I wish they were as easy to configure as our Chromebooks. Cheers Gareth

So it's that time of year again when I look at re-building the desktop image which will be used for the next six months. I create two images a month. If I stick with Windows 7 for the next 6 months then it will be for the year. So do I invest the time in researching Windows 10? Do any of you regret switching? Do you wish you were still in Windows 7? Has anyone created a checklist of things that need to be taken care of? Pitfalls etc? If I start the W10 path (I've tried before) what do I need to look out for? What about profiles - mandatory or roaming? We don't use a profile now, but I will need to look at Outlook settings following the user in future. Waffly message sorry. Gareth
