  1. In case this helps anyone, check the event log for Administrative Events I got Software Installation failed to deploy package xxxxxxxxx.msi. The following error was encountered: Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install. I logged out, logged back in and it worked.
  2. Hi there, I've been asked by the school office to recommend a seller for refurbished iPhones. Has anyone done this? Thanks - Simon
  3. If you want to find out which computers have metered connections with Configuration Manager (SCCM) then the CMPivot query is Registry('hklm:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DusmSvc\Profiles\*\*') | where Property == 'UserCost' Value = 2 means it's metered
  4. Hi all, Firstly, I'm not an expert, so please be gentle with me... I logged onto Teams admin, and it offered me a chance to "easily apply policies for a safe learning environment" I chose 1. Select your institution type = Primary or Secondary, 2. Select your educators and staff group = 3. Review and apply your selections = Apply 4. The action failed (!!!) What it seems to have done is put all pupils into a Messaging Policy with most chat setting turned off, and was trying to put all staff into a Messaging Policy group called "Primary or Secondary Educators and Staff - Messaging", but it failed. After this, chat was turned off for staff. My fix was the following Powershell script $groupName="" $Userlist = Get-AzureADGroupMember -ObjectId (Get-AzureADGroup | Where { $_.DisplayName -eq $groupName }).ObjectId | Select UserPrincipalName foreach($line in $Userlist) { $userId = $line.UserPrincipalName Write-Host $userId Grant-CsTeamsMessagingPolicy -PolicyName "Primary or Secondary Educators and Staff - Messaging" -Identity $userId }

    BETT 2023

I queried all the meetings, and I got this back Hi Simon, The profile you have filled out is for Connect @ Bett, our new meetings programme. This indicated you would want to participate in meetings at Bett. To clarify, Bett is slightly different this year as you can now only meet with solution providers via Connect @ Bett, there will be no off-the-cuff meetings on the show floor. So if you are looking to meet with anyone at all, I’d recommend participating and filling out your availability to reflect the amount of time you wish to be in meetings. If you are sure you don’t wish to participate in Connect, I can remove your participation and switch your ticket type over. ... Then I got this Thanks for letting me know. I have switched your ticket to a non-buyer one now and removed your participation in Connect. Your ticket will be emailed over to you 2 weeks prior to the show.

  7. In answer to the licencing status question
  8. Smart basic is free according to https://support.smarttech.com/docs/software/notebook/notebook-basic/en/about/about-notebook-basic.cshtml maybe they just turned it off for version 19, and maybe an upgrade to version 22 will fix this? Simon - - - Updated - - - Are you version 19?
  9. Hi there, My teachers are telling me that they can't get past this screen. I'm not in school at the moment, but I think it's Smart V19. We don't have Smart licenses, but they've always been able to use the limited function version by logging in with their school (Microsoft) accounts. Is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks - Simon
  10. Hi there, We are moving from SIMS to Arbor, and I've been asked to help with the "Primary Onboarding - Pre Migration Data Checks" Are there any pre-written RptDef files for SIMS, or do we all have to build our own. I can't find the start and end dates for FSM eligibility etc. Thanks - Simon
  11. Hi there, I'd like to use the Booking App, but we only have M365 A1 licensing and Booking requires A3 licensing. Do I need to get an A3 license for the whole school, or just for one user in order to use it? Thanks! Simon
  12. Yes, wordcontrols.xlsx
  13. Hi there I've been searching for this, and couldn't find the answer stated directly, so I thought it would be helpful to spell it out here, for others to find... In Word there is a button to insert online images, it does a Bing image search within Word. Some of these results are not child-safe, and there might be a requirement to disable this button This can be done by Group Policy (GPO) User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Microsoft Word 2016 -> Disable Items in User Interface -> Custom -> Disable Commands Set this to Enabled and add an ID value of 20868 (otherwise known as ClipArtInsertDialog (I know!!!)) Users linked to this Group Policy will have the "Online Pictures" button greyed out. You will need the Administrative Template files for Office 2016/9 to see this GPO setting This also works in Word 2019 (with the Office 2016 GPO template)
  14. Same here, I have one for personal use, and have recommended them to a teacher for his use. Fast, good capacity, great battery life.
  15. Hi, Yes, I should have mentioned that we're in Reading, Berks. Try Hanns.G Computer Monitor HSG1044 User Guide | ManualsOnline.com Simon
  16. Hi there I have five HSG1044 17” Wide screen TFT Color LCD Monitors to give away. They are old, but they all work. VGA only https://usermanual.wiki/Hanns-G/HannsGHannsGComputerMonitorHsg1044UsersManual430301.535910767 Please let me know. Simon
  17. Thanks for the day. I found it most useful. Simon
  18. You are all amazing, thank you!!! I fixed this by updating the settings via RSAT via a 1903 Windows 10 client, as suggested. I attach before and after exports of the settings, for future reference. Simon Pre 1903 settings oldApps.txt Post 1903 settings 1903Apps.txt
  19. Hi there, Is anyone being affected by the Start Menu in Windows 10 1903 for education in a Group Policy Controlled domain being broken? User reports that the Start Menu does not load, either through pressing the Start key, or the Start button on screen. Event Log shows in Applications and Services Logs \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Apps \ Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational an entry that says Activation for Microsoft.Windows.StartMenuExperienceHost_cw5n1h2txyewy!App failed. Error code: This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator.. Activation phase: Deployment It seems that Windows 10 1903 adds a new process StartMenuExperienceHost.exe Our Domain Group policy includes Computer Configuration \ Windows Settings \ Security Settings \ Application Control Policies \ Applocker \ Packaged App Rules that has been setup with "Automatically Generate Rules" But the automatically generated rules don't include a rule for Microsoft.Windows.StartMenuExperienceHost_cw5n1h2txyewy!App I am still investigating. THis was fixed on one computer by doing a Windows Reset through the troubleshooting menu, so it may not be related to Group Policy being out of date, but I wanted to get some ideas while I continue to research. Thanks - Simon
  20. Scenario is 1. Turn on laptop 2. Connect to home WiFi 3. Logon with staff ID 4. Turn off proxy server setting in "Internet Options" 5. Verify internet connection works with Internet Explorer 6. Verify that internet connection works by going to Settings -> Network & Internet -> Wi-Fi ("Connected, secured") 7. Go to rmunify.com 8. Logon 9. Click on SSL Connect 10. Click on LAN Connect 11. Click Allow - Yes etc 12. Verify that internet connection works by going to Settings -> Network & Internet -> Wi-Fi ("No Internet, secured") . This happens after Windows 10 has been upgraded to 1809 . This is registered with RM call number 6205436 They are taking no further action . My solution is to decline 1809 from WSUS until this is resolved. . See https://support.f5.com/csp/article/K18448121 for information from the vendor. . RM refuse to change from split tunneling for traffic setting to Force all traffic through tunnel. . See https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4464619/windows-10-update-history for information from Micosoft. . "Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release."
  21. Yes, love it love it love it. Simon
  22. In case anyone comes across this in future, I had this problem, and it was because I had selected "Hide in Software Center and all notifications" in the User Experience tab of the deployment properties. Go to Monitoring -> Deployments, right click on the deployment, and select the User Experience tab. Also look at Administration -> Client Settings -> right click on Default Client Settings -> Properties -> Software Center -> Customize -> "Hide installed applications in Software Center"
  23. Update: They have decided to remove the Paste from Word button.
