ITGuyNW replied to loxford01's topic in Wireless Networks
Same as us and yeah completely flawless. Had them in 18 months now. Works a charm. -
Yep. The installer opens up but then I get an error saying : Sorry to hijack the ops thread. Mine is the same! I assume because technicially they are different programs, it lists them all. Tried uninstalling the original?

New Teams app and Windows 11 for me is a nightmare. It now installs through a Windows store app process and keeps complaining the user has no right to install it, even though everything in GPO is allowed. I can't wait for the new version to come to web based in January and bin off the app.

Hi all I've come back to this again. Does anyone else use it? It all works fine apart from streaming the actual films. I've let everything I can see through the filter but I still get a blank screen when trying to watch a film. Works fine on mobile data.

How do you have the virtualbox VMs? Just create one for every student and host somewhere?

Anyone finding that the start menu is broken in general? Local profiles used, one laptop it might open, another laptop it won't. Clearing the profile and starting again may help? sometimes doesn't. I can't find a consistent fix. This is on 23H2.

Yeah I've added them to their own security group and I've created a network policy where anyone in this group would need to use a certificate instead of MSCHAP however that currently sits in a lower processing order than the normal MSCHAP policy. If I put that policy above the MSCHAP policy, would devices not in that group simply skip over it? or would it cause 99% of the wireless devices to stop connecting to wireless?

Hi all I'm still getting my head around RADIUS/NPS fully. Everyone in school is still on MSCHAPv2/password based authentication for RADIUS, but I now have some Windows 11 only devices that demand certificate authentication and this is the way I want it to go. I'm trying to set this up in a way so that when a device is authenticating with NPS, if its Windows 11 it will do certificate based authentication and everything else can be the usual MSCHAPv2. Is this possible? Is it a case of having the processing order set up in a way so that it looks at Windows 11 devices first and if they aren't part of that group, they move onto the next policy which is MSCHAPv2? Any help or guides would be nice please, I think I'm just over thinking it!

I could do with a network switch refresh next year. Is it worth going to BETT to speak to vendors? or is it not that kind of show anymore?

I'm at the starting block for launching full blown 2FA then Microsoft do something like this and I have to read into if what I'm doing is still the right thing!!
-
Yeah the main issue with that here is the user. I tried to go all web but they simply didn't bother opening it. At least with the app it can autostart.

Hi all Can anyone share any tips on getting a desktop shortcut for the new Teams 2.0 app? It appears it now sits in Program Files\WindowsApps but the folder it sits in will change every time there's an update.

80-90% of all compromises originate from unmanaged devices
ITGuyNW replied to 5tu's topic in Cloud Services
Yeah I'm in limbo at the moment because we were about to move to MFA then Microsoft moved the goalposts, so currently re-evaluating the options. -
Has anyone arranged A3 licensing themselves? Do they do a type of offer where you get say 100 staff but then give you the students free? We have M365 and A1 here but want to move to A3 for the additional features next year.

[ipad] Authentication on shared iPads
ITGuyNW replied to localzuk's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
We only have a small amount of iPads so just leave them to use the captive portal on Smoothwall as they're used sparingly. This was the other option Smoothwall have come up with. Not entirely fool proof. Minimizing the Need for Users to Log in When Using Shared iPad Devices – Knowledge Base (smoothwall.com) -
We have roaming profiles but I want to go to local when I roll out Windows 11. Just testing it out now actually. I want to redirect the desktop, start menu and set home paths and thats it.

Hi all I'm looking at the schools data retention policies before speaking to our data officer at some point after half term. I see generally schools are going for 12-14 months for emails. What do you do with personal data such as SIMS and documents such as word etc held on the servers in school once staff and students leave? For example, once a teacher leaves, do you delete all accounts and associative data straight away but leave SIMS for a longer period?

[windows software] Can't find "Volume licensing"
ITGuyNW replied to Jawloms's topic in Licensing Questions
Was it purchased under another account? For some reason here, the global admin is on one account but the keys are listed under another name. -
[22h2] Settings Page Visibility GPO Broken from October 2023 Update?
ITGuyNW replied to OLPTech's topic in Windows 11
Yep. I had to resort to using "hide:" and do it that way instead. -
Glad its not just me then.

Personally I wouldn't touch Impero at the moment. Sales and Support are non-existent. Been waiting for simple things for weeks.
-
Cant say I'm impressed with their support. Kits alright once its up and running though.

My computers can do Google doodle, would this be ideal?
