Hi, Some might of seen my recent thread about moving to a new file server recently. I am currently doing a phased move from SERVER A to SERVER B. Server A is our domain controller that was also used as the file server for staff. (Inherited) Server B is a virtual file server (2012R2) I have a group policy that I am moving staff into which applies the folder redirection policy great, and copies there existing documents over to the new server (Super) However I have come across a couple where; The laptop applies the folder redirection policy (According to event viewer) perfectly fine. However the documents still point to Server A! However if i log the user into another machine, then the documents are pointing to Server B!! So why is it not applying to the new area? Is there a group policy that i am missing somewhere? Any help is appreciated. Matthew

Moving on from this... Now I have come across a new issue. We have decided to go with the route of phasing people over through the group policy. So now the issue stands that when the user logs into there machine, it keeps the older server, but as soon as i log them into a new machine it has the new server... what would cause that?

Well in the end we're just doing a phased approach. We're moving people in a phased approach. Pain in the a** but there we go. Thanks for help all

Ok now i have a second question. Yes i have setup the new server correctly and if i map the users to it it works. However it sits on "applying folder redirection policy" for ages as it copies the files from one server to another. Anyway to either; A) get it to do the folder redirection policy in the background so i can just change the policy and it syncs there documents up to the server in the background. B) Get it to realise the users folders are already there. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah I don't fancy having kids or teachers complaining about how they need to change there password every two months!

Sorry to hijack this thread.... But exactly how does de duplication work... If I go in tomorrow on my file server and click go on de duplication for my file servers what problems should I expect? Does it effect my backups? Or is it what it says on the tin?

Not that I can think of the top of my head. Slow and steady wins on this one.. If you had an on-site exchange it would be allot less hassle (I did) However if not then you will likely need to download everyone's mailbox then change there mail settings to office 365 and then import them back into outlook to upload the mailbox. I would recommend you look up on ADSI.

I did our office 365 migration myself. However I used this company to help built my cluster. They do Office 365 migrations / set-ups. ACS | Proactive IT Solutions, Office Furniture, Cloud Services & Recruitment Very good and recommend them!

Evening all, I want to move the staff files to a new server. with this scenario Users documents folders are re-directed to: Server A: Currently a DC Hosting a seperate staff drive (D) I want to move staff to: Seperate file server on virtual host: (Server B) Now i know about robo copy and permissions ect... However no matter how I change the group policy for folder redirection it just seems to get the client to stick on "applying folder redirection policy" rather than realising there files are already on the new server?? Does this make sense to everyone? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for help. Matt

Hey all, Bit of a weird question, however recently with the weather getting hotter and hotter, it means that our office is getting back to that typical IT office sweating temperature. (Unbearable) We don't have the budget to buy an office air conditioning unit, and so I have spoken to my business manager and he has said that there is nothing stopping me from trying to bring income into the school to fund one.. However i havnt mentioned that I want to try this yet... So I have started the process and setup a "go fund me" thing ( gofund.me/sa2dhyd5 ) and I am wondering if that is allowed? Are schools actually allowed to benefit from this sort of site? Just a poor IT guy trying to help out his IT crowd! Would love your help! Also if anyone wants to donate towards saving our shirts from our sweat that would be super! Matt

This comment is zero help.... But I haft to say that printers seem to be the absolute bane of my life!! More helpful... We use HP printers... Seem good enough. Epson have been avoided with barge poles! Kyocera was my favourite in the past... Never had problems with them!

Our dirsync is set for passwords to be pretty much instant.

Wow... Allot for a week and a half...ish break? Iv got sccm on my cards but it's going to be on the back burner for a bit. In terms of prioritising anyway. New IT suite is on the cards and building two new DC's Apart from that it's just the norm updates ect.
