Office 365 Alternate Email address for Global Administrator

Does that involve the use of AD Synchronisation? If so, we can't do that as they are on a Server 2003R2 box so I've had to do the manual setup using a .csv file import -
what if you delete the locally cached profile, then delete the profile from the server(s) and force it to re-create itself?

I am in the process of setting up a school with Office 365 and I am trying to tell the system to change the domain I want to use for the Global Administrator account. However, when I try to do that, I get taken to the "Alternate Email Address" field which is filled out with the email account I used to register for the free trial and tells me I can't use that email address as the alternative (which is fair enough). The real kicker is that if I try and type in something else, it's still giving me the error as if I was still trying to use that original email address. What am I doing wrong? Are you not allowed to edit those settings for the GA account?

I am trying to setup VPP for one of my schools. I have enabled the two-step verification for the main apple ID associated with the school's VPP Program Manager. However, when I try to continue the enrollment process. i.e. going back to https://idmsa.apple.com/IDMSWebAuth/login.html?disable2SV=true&rv=2&appIdKey=09273cfd6b56a8ce5af52a0153d1d796d364e03a36c6e87ef21e92c77a83ef3f&path=/qforms/web/index/avs&language=GB-EN and signing in with the relevant credentials, I then get told the following: Your current Apple ID is not eligible for using Apple Deployment Programmes. In order to access Apple Deployment Programmes, you need to log in with an Apple ID provided to you by your institution, or create a new Apple ID and enrol your institution yourself. If I go to 'enroll' again, I get told to use a different 'work email'. I am really stuck on what to do next. Does anyone have any ideas? Anyone successfully registered with the use of Two-Step verification?

I can sort out the first part if it is any phone that can receive texts...only trouble is me not being due at the school to use one of their iPads :/

I am trying to get a school that I look after (one 3-4 hour visit fortnightly) set up with VPP. However, it seems in the last few weeks that Apple have added an extra security step in the registration process. I have to enable Two-Step Verification of the AppleID associated with their VPP before I can complete the VPP Enrolment process. The AppleID site tells me: "You should add at least one SMS-enabled phone number, and verify any iOS devices that have Find My iPhone enabled with your Apple ID." Can this technically be any phone number capable of receiving a text message - thus I could use my own phone - or does it have to be an iOS phone number? My biggest trouble is that I am not due at the school again for another month due to the Easter Holidays and I do not have an iPhone (Android FTW!)

I don't...admittedly, all but 2 of the schools I look after are First & Primary schools where there is a decent level of competency not to go playing around rebuilding machines - a lot of staff wouldn't have the first clue - admittedly, although I have never had an issue with it, it might be worth putting the request for admin credentials before deployment begins in one of my Middle Schools which has a large number of 10-13 year olds who are cheeky enough to try it!

Could you not redirect the desktop/start menu and lock it down to prevent anyone making changes to it? i.e. adding icons that aren't appropriate? -
I suspect that since I had made the network top of the boot order (before i googled how to enable the boot options menu on the said laptop), when it restarted, someone clicked yes to starting a new deployment and it had been restarted, hence the belief it was still going a week later. I ended up having to completely restart the deployment and have changed HDD back to the top of the order so it seems to be all fine now, and I've also removed the Windows Update steps from the task sequence so that WSUS can push out the updates when its done and I don't have to be there to supervise it!

Oh as a rule we (my colleagues and I) skip everything but the machine name and any optional applications to install such as office or SIMS or sophos (our anti-virus). I'm on about the individual steps within the task sequence properties in the Deployment Workbench, not the unattend.xml or bootstrap.ini files!

As mentioned already, kids are perfectly adept at using Touchpads, possibly even more so than some geriatric teachers. Also, depending on the age and maturity of your pupils, you could find them stealing/deliberately damaging the mice, costing you more money to replace them.

Hi, I am using MDT 2012 on a 2008R2 Server. Have been trying to build a laptop via a Task Sequence that I havent tweaked in any way since I created it a long time ago and it is still building a week later (admittedly I am only at the school half a day per week). It was takings its time installing Windows Updates so I have removed the two steps from the Task Sequence. Are there any other steps that get added in as standard that I can remove to speed up the deployment process?

Have you tried enabling the Group Policy setting "Always wait for network at computer startup and logon"? Computer Config > Admin Templates > System > Logon

I'm currently putting together a brief training session for my work colleagues (we're each taking a chapter of a Windows 7 book) to do with Windows Updates & IE. I was wondering, does anyone know if there is any specific reason why Microsoft chose to set the default Detect & Install time for automatic Windows Updates to 3.00am? Is there a logical reason or was it 3.00am when they programmed that part of Windows?

Does anyone have any or know of any guides as to how to remove the hard-drive from a RM Minibook 120? I have one of 30+ machines that just will not build over MDT and I suspect it has a dodgy hard-drive. I would like to remove it and try another HDD before I condemn the machine. I have removed all the visible screws and the keyboard seems to have a bit of give but I am weary about prying it any further in case I damage it beyond repair.

Sorry guys, only just seeing your responses. In regards to the notion of the OS needing to be re-installed, I didn't have to. As far as I'm concerned with the RAID-1, there was one failed disc and the other was simply "poorly" or "ill" - it hadn't actually failed. The man from Dell Tech Support diagnosed it as "failed" even though it was still working and thus recommended its replacement. I think his diagnosis of the other two (HDD 6 & 7) proved accurate when HDD7 failed during the rebuild of HDD6. LUCKILY, I have suffered no data loss nor have I had to rebuild the OS on the server

It appears you are correct. My list is up to 5 different apps that are showing the same issue. Searching for another of the 5 shows its a paid app on the volume store!

I did a software update which required a restart and still the problem presented itself.

One of my schools has 30 iPads and uses Configurator to manage them. I have come in this morning to find that 5 of their primarily FREE apps are showing a negative number of licenses. It is my understanding that if its free then there should just be the word 'free' and no number next to it. I tried removing the app from configurator and re-adding with no luck. I am in the process of deleting the apps from the Mac Mini completely and re-downloading them. If that doesn't work, are there any other reasons for the negative amount and any other possible fixes? Here's a screenshot in configurator showing two of the apps.

A lot of schools use something called Teachers2Parents to send parents text messages to their phones when things like school closures come up. Is there not something similar you can do for teachers?

Several of the schools I look after are running Windows Server Backup (which comes with 2012) onto QNAP NAS boxes. A 12TB QNAP will cost a decent amount of money (£600+ - Approximately $978 US) - smaller versions are available for a cheaper price - but they have the advantage of you being able to plug them into anywhere on your network. They don't have to be directly next to the server (or IN it in the case of tapes). Other schools my colleagues look after use the same QNAPs but with the Macrium Reflect software which I believe is £108 ($177.80 US) for a one-off license.

Firstly, apologies if I've got the wrong section. I look after the ICT needs of a middle school and recently, 1 of the hard drives on their DC failed and when I was reporting it to Dell Tech Support they noticed 3 more drives failing - but not dead (replacement drives have been ordered and are on their way). I am told that all I need to do is simply plug the new HDDs (in a certain order) into the slots where the faulty ones come out and the disks/drives will automatically rebuild. What I want to know, is how does the server know what to write to those disks? I am a relative newbie to the world of ICT Technicians so I am still learning the theory behind RAID configurations and different types of volumes i.e. striped, spanned and mirrored etc. If you need the info to help explain it to me, they are rocking 8 x 500GB HDDS. The first 2 are running the OS and are RAID-1 (these 2 are part of the 4 'failed drives') and the other 6 are on RAID-6 with two of those 'failing'. Also the server is running 2008R2. Help me understand so I don't stress as much as I did when the techie told me I had 4 failed drives on my server **Needless to say I have made a full backup of their system before I replace any HDDs on the server**

We will be starting from scratch, the school are currently rocking a 3-4 year old Server 2003R2 with Windows 7 Clients. It is my understanding that Office 365 users can be synchronised with an existing AD structure?
