  1. Yeah getting the first copy for configurator.
  2. I am using iTunes on their mac in conjunction with Apple Configurator for deploying apps so I don't think installing on a Windows device is really an option (not a quick and easy one anyway).
  3. As far as I'm aware, we already have a caching Mac Server somewhere in our county broadband network. Only had about 3 instances of this happening so doubt it's a caching issue either (we have MANY schools in the county who have Macs & iPads so logic says every school would be affected if that was the case).
  4. I have had this problem now for the 2nd time in a week. Last week, I had Keynote, Numbers & Pages apps downloading 40 times in iTunes each at one of my schools. I ended up getting a web chat session with Apple who deleted the download queue from their end. The same has happened at another school today. My colleagues have said they have just let them finish downloading. However, internet speeds aren't the greatest here so I envisage having to wait my whole 3 hours here for it to finish. Has anyone else ever suffered from this before? If so, what did you do to fix it? I don't fancy having to contact Apple every time this occurs I am using iTunes 12.1.2.27 on Mac OS X 10.10.3 with all updates installed.
  5. There are no VLANs. Just two Domains/Servers sharing the same network infrastructure. There is only one DHCP server (Team A). That one DHCP server has only one scope.
  6. I am currently setting up a new server on a site that is shared by two institutions. Team A has a bare metal Server 2012 domain running DHCP, DNS, WDS, WSUS etc. We are setting up a 2012R2 domain on a single VM for Team B. Team B uses the DHCP & DNS from Team A's server. We are trying to get WDS working on Team B's server. However, when we PXE Boot a client it is picking up Team A's WDS/MDT. We have tried adding Server & Scope Options 066 and 067 in DHCP on Team A's server to point to Team B's server IP yet it is still getting WDS/MDT on Team A's server. We have also tried disabling WDS on Team A's server but the client then gets a PXE-E55 error because it is still trying to get to Team A's server. Any ideas as to what we are missing? Is it possible to have 2 different WDS servers on the same network?
  7. I have recently been trying to find a solution to hiding computers in network. Can you tell me how you knew of these at all? (I'm aware this is nearly 2 years old now) Do you know exactly what it does to the registry? Would be nice so to be able to explain to my colleagues what it does if anyone else needs to implement it in their schools!
  8. I am wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the best practice for preventing pupils from downloading files from the internet. I got into one of my primary schools this afternoon to find a pupil had managed to download something that appeared in Sophos Enterprise Console as "Adware or PUA". Binkilandupdater.exe to be precise. It is a Server 2012 (NOT R2) domain with Windows 7 x86 clients. I think the best scenario would be to allow download of images such as jpeg and png but prevent downloads of .exe files.
  9. Have you checked your filters when you view all computers?
  10. What about the GPO setting "Prohibit ‘Make Available Offline’ for these files and folders". Could you not put H:\ into this? or Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline ?
  11. Are you migrating them or are you just building a whole new domain?
  12. If it works via \\servername\share why do you need it to work via IP?
  13. I have captured an image, using DISM, of Windows 7 Pro x64 with all updates installed and the odd minor software such as photostory & movie maker. I am trying to test it by pushing out using MDT 2013. It seems to deploy OK, gets to a CTRL+ALT+DEL screen. However, when you look in MDT Deployment Workbench monitoring, it still shows as "running" on step 52 out of 88. It is a standard task sequence with my custom wim imported into the Operating Systems. No extra applications installed. As I said, it gets to CTRL+ALT+DEL, it joins the domain and GP updates and picks up software perfectly. Any ideas as to what I could have done wrong for it to still be running according to MDT? Extra info I thought of, it joins the domain using an account that is a copy of the domain administrator account. I have done this in other places and it has not affected it before.
  14. I will be getting rid of my final 2003 server in May (Whitsun half term). Thank God. Mainly because it has one dead PSU so may well keel over at any point!
  15. Glad it's not working for others. Where are you residing to access it from? It might be nice to eliminate it being a problem with the school's broadband network where I am.
  16. It is a 2008R2 server I will be promoting, however, I've never actually DCPROMO'd a 2008 or R2 server. Only ever worked on new 2012 or 2012R2 servers
  17. This morning I am trying to log in to the VPP for Education store (https://volume.itunes.apple.com/gb/store) and when I click sign in, I get taken to https://buy.itunes.apple.com/financeOverflow.xml and get either "frostycup=1" or "http1.1 service unavailable". Anyone else getting this error?
  18. I'm glad to hear it. Am I best to rename the server to something more meaningful BEFORE I do the DCPROMO?
  19. Personally, for children, i tend to remove them as soon as they leave. No point taking up space on your server. Splitting your profiles into folders organised by year group is a good idea, then you just have to select the folder and delete.
  20. I am a small team of people tasked with researching and documenting disaster recovery standards for our other technicians. I have a school which are a good candidate to be a guinea pig for this. They currently have one DC which is running 2008R2 to approximately 200 x64 Windows 7 clients. They have 2 domain joined servers, both running 2008R2, which run Sophos Enterprise Console & WSUS and another which used to be their local PCE server. They are now centrally hosted for PCE so I thought about promoting that server to a secondary DC as part of my team's research. I am wondering if I need to remove the PCE server from the domain before promoting it or can I DCPROMO it straight after installing the AD role?
  21. I had this exact issue with Smart Notebook 11.4. Deleted the custom.xml file and Smart loaded up great!
  22. See, while I have limited knowledge of Macs, I have enough wherewithal to look at all the settings/preferences I can see. I had the one you mentioned ticked already yet they still show up in iTunes However, with the trolley plugged in, I unticked the box, removed the cable, re-ticked the box and then plugged the cable back in and now they don't seem to be showing up
  23. Hi all, I have several cases whereby when I plug a trolley of iPads into a Mac so that I can update them, they always insist on opening in iTunes even though I manage them with Configurator. Can anyone tell me how to stop this? It doesn't prevent me managing them, just an irritant that I have to wait for to stop before I can downloaded updated apps! The Mac is running OS X 10.10.2, iTunes 12.1 and Configurator 1.7.1
  24. Well...isn't this a b*tch...I came in this morning to fit the part, and in the week since I've been at the school, the fault has cleared and I am now getting green ticks everywhere in OpenManage Server Administrator...
  25. Left it plugged in as in power or the card into the motherboard etc? The server's hardware manual suggests removing the raid card from the server. http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge/poweredge-t610_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf Pages 117 & 118
