I work for a company that has recently started a trial of CentraStage which we intend to use to boost our capability to support schools remotely. I am on the small team that has been charged with doing R&D into CentraStage to find out everything we can possibly do within the realms of the service we provide. It is certainly possible to run an audit of the hardware you have the CentraStage client installed on. Is it possible to do an 'audit' of Active Directory so that you can export a list of all your users within one or two clicks to something like a .csv file. Excuse my ignorance if there are solutions out there for this, please let me know if you know of a tool that will do this for me!

Apologies for the slow response, thank you for the advice. The organisation in question is a primary school with about 200 kids and 35-40 staff (Teachers, TA's & SLT). They also only have 1 server (technically 2 due to the Hyper-V DC) currently in use. The organisation I work for doesn't know a lot about the deployment/implementation of Office365 so we are sort of writing our own document as we go so this would be useful advice for us to put in our document (we only tend to share it internally). Just so I have my understanding right, you advise only having AD Sync and not bothering to do SSO? Currently I have only added their staff users with a CSV file (their original request) but we are at the stage where we need to research AD Sync a bit more and the have agreed to be our guinea pig once more!

I am in the process of writing a simple installation checklist and have a query about ADFS, Single Sign-On & AD sync. I was told by a former colleague that you needed ADFS running on a separate server to the one running your AD DirSync tool. Is this true? Can you not have ADFS, SSO & AD Sync all on one box?

Can anyone remind me how to obtain the Policy Central Removal Tool? I know they issue a new one each month but I cannot remember for the life of me (yes, stupid not to save a favourite anywhere) how and where I get it from! I work in a team of Technicians who go around various schools as part of an SLA for 3 hours per visit (where frequency of visit depends on what they pay for). We come across so many situations in schools where staff are so computer illiterate that a good 40% of problems are user error related. On our visits, we try to write notes for schools letting them know what we have fixed or looked at in that visit. OUR problem is that none of us have come up with a KIND way of saying the problem was with the user. We have several phrases that only a technician would understand - PICNIC, PEBCAC, ID-10-T, Layer 8 Error etc. Can you tell me what is your favourite way of saying "User Error"?

Actually, I'm not a teacher so I'm unaware of it being "one of the best apps for literacy". I'm just the dogs body who has to deploy out to the iPads and the school asked me if there were any alternatives. They are more than likely to be prepared to pay once we have sorted out the process of obtaining VPP Credit without a Procurement Card!

Is there a property you can edit within the file you are pushing out? Whenever Adobe release a new MSI, I open it with Orca and edit the 'Product Name' and 'Product Version' fields so that I can clearly see within Group Policy what I'm deploying without having to expand every tree! Out of curiosity, how long does it take you from start to finish to deploy your updated software using LUP? I.e. from creating the update, uploading it to WSUS and deploying out to a client? What Server version are you on as well?

check your group policy settings, look out for "Restrict Internet communication": Administrative Templates > System > Internet Communication Management > Restrict Internet Communication If this is enabled, then disable or set to not configured

IN addition to your problem, try looking out for the GP setting "Restrict internet communication" - i had the problem at one of my schools where I couldn't get to any https websites (through Chrome, IE allowed me to continue after a warning). Removing that policy setting allowed me in! Computer Config > Administrative Templates > System > Internet Communication Management > Restrict Internet Communication

Download the Google Chrome ADM/ADMX files from: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/187202?hl=en Import into Group Policy and now you have all the policy settings you need to control Chrome centrally

Why are you not using Group Policy to push it out? To get the MSI, download the .exe, extract using WinRAR and upload the MSI to your GPO

I personally just put the basic OS image (maybe a reference image with updates only installed) and then let group policy do the rest. I know some of my colleagues use reference imaging to deploy an image with the school's software on it (2Simple, Textease etc) and then use group policy to deploy and update plugins like Flash etc

I have a school who have the free version of the "Book Creator" app on their iPads. It seems that you are only allowed a maximum of 2 books on the iPad before you have to upgrade to the paid version. Is this correct? If so, can anyone recommend any other equivalent FREE apps that they can use? I have seen BookPress, is it any good? The recommendations have to be free apps as although the school is registered for Apple VPP, they have no way of paying for apps using a credit/procurement card

I am trying to solve a rather strange error on a newly built machine after getting a replacement hard drive. The ActivInspire v1 MSI, that I obtained after running the network install of the latest .exe downloaded directly from the Promethean website, fails to install with the following error: Error 1308: Source file not found "[insert filepath]\ActivInspire\1.8.64351\Windows\winsxs\ulCRTx86\86_Microsoft.VC90.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.030729.4148_x-ww_d495ac4e.manifest" Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. On close inspection, there is a .manifest file but the garbled rubbish in the filename is different. Currently, the software is deployed via Group Policy. All but the ActivInspire v1 MSI install perfectly fine. If I run the MSI manually it bombs out at that error. However, if I install the .exe it installs fine. However, when the machine is then restarted (when teacher goes home at night), it seems Group Policy removes the ActivInspire installation and then fails trying to install its own MSI again. This is the first time it has occurred in the school. They are Windows 7 x86 clients with a 6-month old Server 2012

Here's a tough one for you...a mate of mine was failed recently. After being told to turn left, 1st exit, from a roundabout, a young child threw a ball into the road and his mother ran into the road to retrieve it forcing my friend to do an emergency brake. I get that I can run Powershell from my computer...I just didn't get that I could manage my Office365 environment from any computer using powershell. Excuse my ignorance, I've not used PowerShell properly before. So I could just try and run that line: (Changed for my specific addresses though?)
