Have got Office 365 proplus - tried again on a totally fresh install win 7 laptop and it is ok - does not ask for activation and links to the student account. There must have been some office licence info left on the other laptop even though it was off the domain and office had been uninstalled.

OK have got licences and synced AD. Got round stupid limitation to only be able to select 20 users at a time in 365 admin by using powershell to allocate licences. With a test student account - logged in to 365 portal and installed office 2013 from prompt. It installed ok but Word says activation needed -I selected sign in with an active account instead and successfully signed in but still get prompt for activation when I launch word. Surely I do not need to give out keys to students? How does this work - I thought students were allowed to install up to 5 copies of office? Microsoft are such hard work when it comes to licensing - tempted to rip everything out and install chromeboxes :-)

update on this - if I image a physical machine but give it a new name that does not exist in active directory then it images ok and installs applications such as office 2016. The machine joins domain ok and is created in computers folder. So it does not like something in active directory probably - maybe the fact that I have classic shell allocated to the container machine was in.

I have not got an answer but got similar problem - will let you know if I can fix it. I can image a virtual machine ok - office 2016 and other applications install - this is with a pure operating system image not a capture. On a physical machine it sticks at step 59 of 89 - no applications get installed. It adds to domain ok and installs software from gpo but does not complete deployment.

We have been using GAFE for ages which is very good. Looking at office proplus 365 for education which seems to be included as part of our schools agreement so students can install office. I got it all setup and azure to sync active directory so have got users in - but it shows one order of 170 units and one order of 143 units - guessing this may be related to number of full time staff. I thought all students were entitled to one or more copies of office? We have a lot more students than this - how does it work?

impero inform me that the work on a radicalisation category has gone back to a 'pilot' stage and is very early in development so can't be released. Does anyone have or know where I can get a list of keywords so we could make our own category?

As a few have mentioned the best way might be chromebooks and chromeboxes. I would have thought it would be possible and with cost savings on hardware, servers, licensing. Main sticking points would be software such as sims, design, music, media.

I had problems when deploying from google console - they appeared under local destination on chromebook but would not print. Sharing them to a user or group worked - the user goes to print - destination - change and google cloud print. It still seems to stick on printing message but the job comes out. Beware if sharing to a group the owner of the group has to accept the sharing invitation on behalf of the group -I had no owners set on groups in google console initially.

Out of interest did you develop them yourselves or get a third party to do them?

You can buy licences from resellers - they are always £19 no matter how many you buy. Once you have them then device part of console will be active. There a lot of things you can configure such as guest access, wireless settings, whether to delete local user data at logoff. You can get a logon box to appear rather than have account icons.

we use google classroom now which is pretty good and free but you need to set your school up for google apps for education. Advantage is that students can use it on phones, tablets etc.

website hosted on openhive has been down for a while - they confirmed it was a problem at their end. We are moving to new internet providers in November.

bitlocker is good if you have windows enterprise licences - you can use a usb stick if the laptop does not have a tpm chip. Recovery keys are stored in active directory which makes things easier.

Going out to support an infant school they have a deskcaddy sync and charge unit with a class set of ipads LapCabby | New thinking in ICT Storage Solutions | Innovative laptop & tablet trolleys I think they are trying to sync to itunes on a PC - is this possible or do they need a mac? Or are they better using meraki or something else? Just trying to get an idea before I go over there.

dell chromebooks with 4GB ram are about £170/180 plus £19 for a licence if you want to manage them via google console - are you are a google apps school? - you will get more out them if you are. We got some from haptic. I did get an offer of lenovo chromebooks cheaper - but consensus on here seems to be that dells are most rugged.

As per quackers post above - I did it when we went to an academy. Nerve wracking but possible - leave plenty of time - probably a summer job. I had to clean up a bit of DNS stuff.

we have some staff on shared department accounts but the test ones I am using don't. Still experimenting when i get time - will post if I get resolution.

thanks for reply. Chromebook is up to date. Have tried adding and removing printers. The fact the same printer works through cloud print section makes me think printer and proxy is ok - maybe something with papercut. We can control and monitor printing through papercut. I can't send out personal invitations to all students - am going to look at sharing to groups.

If you have a managed chromebook i.e. has a device licence then you can enroll it and control it through the google admin console. Under device management - chrome - device settings you can enable cloud printers and add them in. They then appear in local destinations when a user selects print. It says printing when a user prints but nothing comes out. If they select same printer under google cloud print after you have shared it with them then it will work

Hi resurrecting this thread as i am having the same issue - was it ever resolved? Am using dell chromebook with papercut MF. adding cloud printer from console means that it shows up in local destinations but does not print - nothing comes out. Adding same printer by sharing it to a used and printing under google cloud print it works.

we have moved away from its learning and find that google classroom does most of what we want for free.

Isn't that a bit of waste of money if they don't need replacing?

I would have thought most schools should be looking at virtual servers nowadays. If you have spare capacity on other servers and backups or replication of your virtual servers then it is not crucial to have extended warranty. You can bring up the virtual server on a new host until you fix the physical host that has a fault. Only one of my physical servers is in warranty. You can buy extended warranties but they are expensive - you would be better off putting money towards another physical server and setting up virtual servers.
