We have had a lot of probook 440s for staff here and they have been solid. A couple have had to go back for repair by HP but in general very good. Would not buy vostros after a bad experience a while back resulting in all of them dying within a year or so. Have just tried some HP 250s but not as good quality as 440s.

Can anyone tell me how to change the regional settings for devices enrolled in intune for education? I have searched high and low and can't find them. Have got a trial going and have setup a laptop using "setup schools PCs app" - appear in intune for education console ok and I can push out apps / restrictions. Am stuck on US keyboard and timezone at login screen - don't know how to change it. According to setup schools PC app you put memory stick in at the regional settings screen before doing anything else - it then recognises the memory stick and applies package ok - but no option of changing region after this or when making package?

Don't want to be too negative - appreciate what the school is trying to do. Possible stumbling blocks - cost - what is the lifespan of an ipad or ipad pro? Guessing three years before apple stop you installing latest ios and apps. In our area a lot of families don't have internet access so this would be a consideration - does the school support families that can't afford it?

Are ipad screens big enough for teachers to create work on? Most teachers seem to love their ipads but also need a laptop or PC to create content for lessons and to analyse data.

Don't think ocr works very well with handwriting - just thought there must be someone out there using a smartpen?

I have a request from staff that are taking lots of notes in meetings and want a smartpen to automatically transcibe notes as they are finding it too time consuming. They want to use paper not tablet - don't want to use surface pro and we have no ipad pros. Livescribe seem to get best reviews but are about £180 and you need to buy special paper - sets of notebooks at £20 a go. Have seen reviews of EQUIL SMART PEN 2 but don't seem to be available in UK Is anybody using anything and give me any recommendations? Got my doubts about how well it would work but open to ideas. installed windows 1709 - fresh install build 16299.19 but where is one drive and files-on-demand? onedrive folder from start menu is empty - go to users folder on c drive and onedrive folder is empty. So downloaded latest onedrive https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?linkid=851311 run installation and says preparing onedrive for first use and finishes but nothing appears still? Any ideas - tried removing one drive and reinstalling including onedrive for business from office 2016 but cannot get any one drive to appear at all?

I much prefer G suite for simplicity of use, google classroom, chromebooks and support but am stuck with 365 as this college has already gone a long way down that route.

you could sell them as a job lot on ebay - if the school let you. By selling as a job lot it makes it easier rather than packing and sending them out individually.

would like to get rid of roaming profiles but struggling with uev and having no profile seems to take an age to create initial profile. On 1703 win 10 - need to find time for for testing. On another thread someone mentioned a lot of issues with intune so am steering clear of that for now.

tried redirecting to folders on C drive - start menu and layout xml this is with roaming profiles. A new user with no profile - all works ok on one machine - roaming profile is created on server. Can log back on to that machine ok with everything ok. Log onto another machine and get hardly anything on start menu and no tiles. logoff and login again - on second login it works. Any ideas? tried without profile - just using local profiles but it can take an age to login as it prepares profile so no good

They are pretty good for that - that is how our staff use them - via laptop into docking station into promethean screens

still had issues with start layout xml which I have not had time to fix. I drop shortcuts into C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs for now - students have roaming profiles. Would like to get redirected start menu, tiles and also UEV working but it is not easy. Microsoft guides not great and some just a bit flakey.

this is definitely classic shell problem for me - since un-installation I have had no issues.

I've tried file explorer options and the update above on ten PCs but still hanging/crashing so it has not worked for me - pretty sure it is classic shell - going to have to get rid of it which is a pain. got this problem - using classic shell 1703 net support manager and dna Anyone solves please let me know. Start menu can freeze or explorer can freeze - not consistently - task manager and sign out and sign in fixes it.

I had to go classic shell in the end - problems with start menu whatever type of profile you use.

we use it but they remote in and fix it if it breaks. I am not sure whether we have to pay them maintenance though

I thought I had cracked 1703 start menu but now I get the same "the reverse problem, in that the first login is fine, but from second login the redirected part disappears". Am using local profiles - nothing in profile setting in AD. Any ideas - only spent 4 weeks of my life working on windows 10 issues :-(

we are currently using rsconnect and are going over to schoolcomms for attendance, messaging, payments etc. The one stumbling block we have is that schoolcomms attendance does not let you produce letters home and record them on the system like rsconnect. We send quite a lot of letters out to parents who do not respond to text/email to unauthorised absences. Schoolcomms only lets you send another text or email. Workaround would be using mail merge somehow but this would be time consuming. What do other schools do for letters home when using schoolcomms? Thanks in advance Mark

Have spent weeks on windows 10 what with mdt issues, start menu flaky, apps you can't get rid of, profiles etc. etc. Still not happy with it. Each version of windows gets worse.
