Don't forget firewall - if you have pure unfiltered line - we have gone with Sophos XG which does firewall and filtering and pretty pleased with it.
-
1GB connection prices have come down a lot. You would really want a backup/failover if you are moving all to cloud.
-
If the connection test files then you have problems with office e.g. can't embed video in powerpoint as it thinks it is offline can't connect to SharePoint from word
-
we had it but when i added a firewall rule at top level for that site in sophos xg then it fixed it - deoands on your firewall/filtering
-
this is the site it tries to connect to http://www.msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt - have you whitelisted or added to exceptions on your filtering solution?
-
Could get them to logout of sims and rename/delete my sims documents and tempSimsRpt - they are usually in their documents folder. This has fixed problems with reports - the folders will be recreated when they log back in.
-
Finally managed to get away from them - poor service but not always the engineers fault - organisation is too big. If you get one engineer who knows what he/she is doing then you probably won't see them again - they will be off somewhere else and you will get another one who has to start from scratch. When I first took over it would take up to week to get a new student account even though they had an on-site engineer - it had to go to northern ireland helpdesk so they can could generate a 3 digit number to go on the end of the account :-)

We had some issues due to PTR records not being updated - so sophos STA wouldn't connect via WMI After changing lease times and forced up date policy it is working pretty well. Problem we have now is in Chrome it is not picking up youtube strict filtering for students when they put in an override code yet it does in IE and Edge. Anyone else seen this or have a fix?

Try and home cook as much as possible e.g. biscuits, onion bhajias etc. They taste better. Tins of cat food, cardboard boxes of washing powder. Some are difficult e.g. margarine (change to butter?), milk. I look for alternative wherever possible not always easy but everything helps and nudges manufacturers in the right direction.
-
My contribution so far: tins of cat food instead of pouches shaving brush and soap instead of foam/gel bamboo tootbrush (still has pvc bristles but saves a lot of plastic) soap instead of show gel/shampoo one thing i did not get on with is safety razor instead of disposable - just couldn't get close enough shave but will have another go. Try and and buy glass jars instead of plastic for things like peanut butter. I do a lot of cooking from scratch anyway but could make things like onion bhajias, veg burgers, veg pate instead of getting ready made in packets. Not bought ready made pizza, soup etc. for years.

If you could do filtering separately net support dna provides good safeguarding stuff such as screenshots of flagged words etc. and might work out cheaper
-
have got same here have reported it to cpoms
-
This has started here as well - don't know why something must have updated. Would prefer Foxit but adobe gets installed with sims
-
At least they asked you - have had people pull the plug in the past. Best to have a shutdown sequence in a document somewhere in case you are not available and someone else has to do it. Also is there anything going on that might be impacted - easter schools, staff in, remote working?

Most important part of being in a band is having a concept of what you want to sound like and achieve. You seem to have that in that you want to do original stuff and know what style. You will have to accept you won't earn much money and will find it hard to get gigs as it is mainly covers/tribute acts nowadays on the circuit. Try to recruit some like minded members through whatever means e.g. social media - if you can start with bass/drums/keys - whatever line up you have in mind. You can then jam and see what you come up with. Finding a singer/frontperson is a lot harder because they quite often want to do stuff they like/are suited to.

Windows 10 start menus / desktop icons .. best practice ?
maark replied to MrWu's topic in Windows 10
as above - beware if staff have roaming profiles the start menu may not come up on first logon and can cause problems if you upgrade to a newer version of windows 10 -
new BYOD range not getting internet
maark replied to maark's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
yes that is what i am saying this is the difference between working range and non-working. On a laptop connected to BYOD it shows the gateway as 10.3..... but does not work on internet on a phone under connections, manage router it is showing as http://lightspeed.schools...... - don't why it is picking this up as router/gateway instead of the 10.3 address - lightspeed tell me it is a transparent bridge so should not need any settings to let traffic through -
new BYOD range not getting internet
maark replied to maark's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
if connect an android phone to our guest network or staff device network under manage router in phone settings it shows http//:10.3 etc and internet works ok if I connect android phone to BYOD under manage router it shows http://lightspeed.schools etc rather than the 10.3 address - I also get a message about Internet may not be available so it is not getting through to the 10.3 gateway though you ping that gateway ok from laptop -
new BYOD range not getting internet
maark replied to maark's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
yes have done that but still missing something - router is showing http://lightspeed...... rather than 10.3........ on phone connected to this subnet have tried connecting a laptop direct into core switch with a port untagged to this subnet and get same error - this rules out config issues with wireless, other switches etc. -
new BYOD range not getting internet
maark replied to maark's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I have setup the subnet on lightspeed under authentication - source exemptions. Is there anywhere else I need to set it? Am stumped on this one unless there is something on the core switch access lists that capita setup but am struggling to see anything. Going to to try wireshark when i get chance to see if it give any clues. -
thanks for suggestions - will follow a few up. We have line of site so should be ok.
-
can anyone recommend me a good company in east midlands to get a quote for wireless point to point connection to another another site approx 1km away? We are in Leicester. We need something very reliable looking at ubiquiti or millimetre wave kit on 2GB connection.
-
thanks - will have another look at it - been dragged off to other stuff at the moment

new BYOD range not getting internet
maark replied to maark's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Its a new range setup for us by kcom. The connection is firewalled by them. Am beginning to think it may be at their end - they will only allow specific internal IP addresses to connect. They have told me they have been setup but maybe they have not allowed them.
