if your budget is limited I doubt you will be able to afford a san - not sure they are totally necessary in school environment anyway. Google seem ahead of microsoft - collaboration is better, classroom is used widely here also support is very good - instant response with suggested fixes and ability to analyse logs online with good phone support.

We went away from its learning to google classroom which staff are using a lot now and is good and free. Don't understand the problem with gmail - most staff use the sync tool to Outlook because they like Outlook and are used to it which works well.

One thing to be aware of with e-safety policy - the one we imported from impero had *anthrax* set in advanced settings to do automatic 30 second recordings of violations. Took a while to find out what was taking up the space on the server in the recordings folder! Have removed it and asked impero if there are any others set like that or if it was a mistake in the policy - there are too many items to check individually though ones I looked at don't have it set.

It is not appropriate in home environment - some users are not tech savvy and would find it difficult to cope with change of OS. Other users may have software that will not work with win 10 e.g. specialist music software and are trying their hardest not be forced to upgrade yet still getting caught out.

A managed system should sort out the interference, channels, power etc. automatically - that is the main advantage. When we went from loads of cisco points to ruckus I just swapped them over without a site survey and everything has worked fine with a few tweaks. You may need less access points if they are more efficient.

IT staff want to use them and have got lesson plans for year 7 but no sign of em apart from the 3 teacher ones. Big supporter of the BBC but not sure why they are doing it and how it fits into their remit.

thanks for advice - have managed to get enough space to keep going and have found a snapshot showing so will try and delete it at the end of the school day. Panic over for now - not a good way to start monday morning Also learnt a bit more about hyper v - did a live migration on a test server ok but not sure I would like to risk it on file server with 2TB storage.

not done a live migration before - this uses move from hyper v? Questions - will the machine shut down after i do a move? Not sure whether I have enough space - got another host with 2.18TB free drive but this is not enough for the data disk and the avhdx disk?

help - race against time My virtualised server is creating a avhdx file that is taking all space up on the physical drive. Over the weekend all hyper v servers on this physical server paused as it ran out space. By shutting down some machines and moving them off got servers running. Had to restart virtual file server. But now space is going down rapidly - i can only think we have accidently created a snapshot - - no option to cancel in hyper v console. Tried - create checkpoint then cancel create checkpoint but space still running out as avhdx increase! How can i stop it? Don't want to shut down this server as it is our main file server! see screenshot of files on server.

Since the cabinet office and HMRC use Google I don't think schools should be too worried. UK government department swaps Microsoft for Google Have noticed that Microsoft seem to scaremonger about this as they seem to be trailing google in things like colloboration, classroom tools etc.

we use it here and they are quite good at sending out toners automatically although any stand-alone ones you will have to ring in for supplies

useful post - what make laptop would you recommend in general or definitely avoid? We used to be 100 percent Dell but made the mistake of buying some vostros which were awful and lasted less than 2 years with a variety of faults.

all teachers have laptops here for sims which sync time to domain which is synced to time server so are 100% accurate

Or scrap bells all together - why do we need them when every member of staff has something that can tell the time? Surely a relic from the past. Not that we have here :-)

Chromeboxes and chromebooks could start looking a lot more appealing - £19 per licence per device to control via console but no updates, backup, software to install, antivirus, office licence, windows licence or servers to run. Unless google decide to start charging for GAFE.

thanks for advice - have emailed and left message. One console has come up for some reason so we have some control but no other console machines will connect. Can't get it to install at all on win 10 machines but will try nelliot's suggestion

I know there has been a lot of threads about impero recently but need to start another one. Asked for update to latest stable version last night as we need to test windows 10 and support contract is coming up for renewal. They gave me download to version 5116 - we were on 5.0.03 and I had been holding off upgrade. I copied upgrade to server and it updated ok but now a lot of clients won't update and none of the consoles will connect even if i manually install the new version and restart them. Some workstations have updated finally but it has taken a long while - none of consoles are showing as connected. Can't get hold of support - long wait and then answerphone. Anybody else got this version working ok or had similar problems?
