Hello all, Currently using a Fortinet 100D (Inherited setup) for firewall and filtering, but increasingly finding that the units (2 in HA) are not up to the job. I've been asked to look at open source web filtering, which I'm guessing isn't going to be ideal. Does anyone have any experience of using open source products for this? For an idea of scale, we're circa 5000 users/2000 devices on a 200Mb active, 200Mb backup internet connection. Primary link is shortly upgrading to 1Gbps. Thanks.

I have a large group of users who use re-directed start menus. We have introduced some 64-bit laptops onto the network and have the issue where the central share for the start menus refers to applications as C:\Program Files\application.exe, which is fine for the 32-bit clients, but the 64-bit computers have the software installed into C:\Program Files (x86)\application.exe which obviously doesn't work. What are the solutions to this problem? I have investigated using environmental variables, but there is no variable which resolves to Program Files on 32bit and Program Files (x86) on 64 Bit. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ok, so I have 2 Dell R710, twin 6 core Xeon w/HT, 16GB RAM, FC HBA acting as fileservers running Server 2008 R2 I have just purchased a Dell FC SAN made up of: MD3600f MD1200 24 x 600GB 15k SAS drives The MD3600f connects into my SAN switch, along with the 2 file servers. The MD1200 connects via dual 6Gbps SAS into the MD3600f. The File servers hold network homes for around 2000 users (mainly macintosh, so quite a read intensive workflow). We have about 1200 devices. FS1 = ~1000 students roughly 2TB FS2 = ~1000 students roughly 2TB How should I configure my storage to suit this environment. It needs to be fast - we were using a sata based system before, but it couldn't deliver the IOPS we required, hence the new SAN. Now the questions: Should I have one raid 10 array per server, or one large raid 10 array split into luns per server? Should I separate homes and profiles onto different luns, or physical disks - we do have some windows users too. I only initially require about 4TB (after RAID and formatting) but this will grow as i move other users over. Any thoughts / suggestions welcome. Thanks.
