    We would love to go with TeamViewer but sadly they don't seem to be responding to our inquiries, hence this post looking for alternatives.

    It boots you off after 5 minutes if you've been detected as commercial use. We're happy to pay but we need the nonprofit discount for it to be feasible, and there just doesn't seem to be any avenue of getting in touch with them about this at the moment.

    I saw that but I think that has to be installed on the computer already before it goes out of the organisation? This is why we need something that can work like TeamViewer, people have already got our laptops out in the field and we need to be able to support them.

    We have systems that allow us to deploy software to computers while they're connected to our network, but is there any way / any system (not SCCM or Intune though because we don't have those) that would allow us to deploy software to college owned computers over the Internet? Basically for situations where staff or students working remotely say "oh I need X piece of software but this laptop hasn't got it". Any suggestions / recommendations?

    I asked this in the Windows 10 forum but my manager pointed out we also need to be able to support Mac users. We wanted to sign up with TeamViewer as we've used it in the past but we've tried to contact them about the nonprofit discount and had no response, so we're looking at alternatives. Basically we want something that will allow us to provide remote IT support both to organisation owned and personal computers. Does anyone have any recommendations? It needs to be something that doesn't require admin rights or prior deployment/installation to run (TeamViewer has its QuickSupport that people can just download and use straight away, so something that can work like that would be good). Also needs to not require any firewall faffing around.

    We are aware of Teams but we haven't got everything properly set up so we can use it at the moment, so we just want something we can use quickly and with no faffing and no need to open firewall ports or install anything on anybody's computer.

    Does anyone else have exams upcoming which are needing to use Adobe Creative Cloud? How do you handle the fact that it needs a login now?

    The ServicePlan for Kaizala is "KAIZALA_O365_P2" (at least for us) so just add this to your list of DisabledPlans when assigning licenses. I tried to include our PowerShell code for doing this bit in this post but the code tag doesn't seem to be able to cope with multiline blocks of code.     Hello, Is there a way we can set things up so that the default action when a student logs in using their web browser to OneDrive.com and accesses a document that it will open in the installed Office app instead of opening in Office Online in the browser? Or alternatively if that's not possible, is there a way we can disable opening / force downloading of documents from OneDrive.com?     Is there any way to prevent access to certain applications on Macs, but only when an account in a specific AD group is logged in? We have Jamf Pro, and it has a Restricted Software function, but this only functions system-wide, i.e. an app is either restricted for everyone or unrestricted. We'd like to be able to do something around exam accounts, e.g. preventing exam accounts from being able to use Safari or Chrome but leaving these apps available for any other type of user.     These look like they are all for 27" Macs though; our Macs are all 21.5".

    While we would love to replace those Macs with PCs, unfortunately the situation regarding that is very political and contentious at the moment.

    Wouldn't those run the risk of getting nicked though? We do need people to be able to access the back of the Mac so they can e.g. plug in USB sticks, so we can't just block the whole thing off or lock it inside some kind of cage.

    I don't suppose there's an app that's a bit more enterprisey than that? I.e. that we can somehow manage centrally and that can be installed silently and simply activate the next time the machine is rebooted rather than actively rebooting during the install?

    Yes, a couple of the companies who we enquired with have already got back to us saying that 2012/2013 are "vintage" and so official Apple approved parts are not available. However these Macs are long past the end of their warranties, so we don't care about using Apple approved parts.

    We want to, but we need to find a company who'll do it for us. I don't think we can upgrade RAM as I believe it was soldered on those models, but the drives in them are standard SATA spinning-rust drives so it should be possible to replace with SSDs.

    Yes, we're expecting that to be the case, but it will still be more cost efficient to upgrade existing Macs to extend their service life than to buy new ones. Due to the cost of replacing iMac screens should anything go wrong, we'd vastly prefer to pay a company with the experience to perform these upgrades rather than trying to do it ourselves, particularly given the number of computers we need to upgrade.

    We're looking at ways in which we can extend the service life of our older iMacs (2012, 2013 models - no longer under warranty) and one possibility would be to have the current 5400rpm HDDs replaced with SSDs. As we would envisage this involving at least 50 machines, we are looking to see if we can find a company who would be able to send technician(s) on-site and perform the replacements in bulk here. These Macs are no longer under warranty so we would not be concerned about using non-Apple parts, but the companies we've contacted so far have all given us the same kind of response: "2013/2013 models are likely to be considered 'vintage', this means that Apple no longer manufacture serialised parts needed for repairs and service." I'm assuming this means there's some kind of lock-in agreement that Apple has with their service centres? Can anyone recommend a third party company (not locked in by Apple) who might be prepared to do what we're asking for?

    Has anybody got a contact at SketchUp? Our education license grant programme license for SketchUp 2018 has expired prematurely (our documentation says it was supposed to be good until November 2020). I tried opening a support ticket on their web form but although I got an automated acknowledgement, I got no reply, and I haven't been able to find a working email address for them. The ICT Service (who are listed on SketchUp's web page as being the administrators for Cambridgeshire in the UK for the license grant programme) just told me they don't deal with that any more and tried to direct me towards a paid SketchUp reseller. The education license grant programme appears to still exist according to the SketchUp website - https://www.sketchup.com/education/grants - so ideally we'd like to continue using this to get the software for free. We're using Windows 10 LTSC 1809 so we can't use the "SketchUp for Schools" app as it's a Windows Store app.
