Is there any way to prevent access to certain applications on Macs, but only when an account in a specific AD group is logged in? We have Jamf Pro, and it has a Restricted Software function, but this only functions system-wide, i.e. an app is either restricted for everyone or unrestricted. We'd like to be able to do something around exam accounts, e.g. preventing exam accounts from being able to use Safari or Chrome but leaving these apps available for any other type of user. Our Macs are all bound to AD as well as being enrolled in Jamf Pro. Thanks, Dan Jackson (Senior ITServices Technician) Long Road Sixth Form College Cambridge, UK.

We're hoping to move to MDT for our PC imaging and deployment but we have a few applications which don't have silent/unattended installers. What tools do you use to repackage your legacy/non-MSI-installer applications so they can be used with MDT? I've looked around at a few commercial solutons (Advanced Installer, AdminStudio, PACE Suite) but they all seem really expensive and do a lot more than we need to be able to do. Thanks, Dan Jackson (Lead ITServices Technician) Long Road Sixth Form College Cambridge, UK.

Hi I've searched but can't find this specific question answered anywhere. We currently restrict applications via WGM, but this does not stop students bringing an app in on their flash drive and running it, either from the flash drive itself, or from the desktop after copying it. Has anybody come up with a solution for this? Ideally, I would like to restrict ALL aplications except those in the allow list. Many thanks Mark

I'm having an issue where when I boot from a USB and install the operating system with applications I get multiple error codes such as Error code 2 and 1619. However, when I do just an application install without the OS there are no errors, but the applications don't install. I know that error code 2 means it is having trouble finding the file to install but I am taking the exact setup file that I downloaded from my C Drive. Any ideas? Application: LogMeIn is giving error code 1619 Application: Adobe Reader giving error code 2

Hello, I have an issue on my windows network where Applications pushed out through Group policy will only install if I connect the computer to a miniswitch/unmanaged switch. If it is plugged directly into the port it will not work (The policy will apply but the software will not install). If I then plug that port into a mini switch, then plug that into the computer it pulls down fine. It seems to be only with windows 10 machines that I have noticed it on, from what I can see win 7 machines pull down the software properly. Please could someone help me with this as I am unsure why this would happen. Thank you for your help.

We have recently deployed AppV 5.0 to an IT room and have published some applications on a user basis (by targetting an AD group). However, when these students logon to the machine, a user refresh does not occur and instead the students have to open the AppV Client GUI and then click the "Update" button to manually force this refresh. Once this is done, the application appears in the user's start menu and all is well. I have enabled the User Refresh at Logon Group Policy setting and when running RSOP.msc on a client, these GPO settings are being successfully applied. Has anyone else experienced an issue like this and if so, how did you go about resolving it. Many thanks. J.Worth

Hello everyone, I have an unusual issue trying to sequence Algodoo which is a piece of free physics software we are trying to use in school. I can sequence it but when I try adding it to the App-V Management Server so it can be deployed, I am receiving an error message: "The package Algo Physics was not added. An unexpected error occurred while calling AppX Com API. Error: 0x80080205 - The Appx package's block map is invalid. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80080205)." I have sequence a completely different application using the same sequencing VM (restored to a clean state) and these packages add successfully. So I can only think that it is something within the software (file path, filename that's a reserved word??). The Sequencer version is: App-V 5.1 March 2017 Service running on Windows 7 SP1 x86 (I have also tried my x64 sequencer VM with identical version of the sequencer to no avail) Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Anyone aware of ways that access can be limited on certain applications on Server 2008? I need my technicians to be able to access Active Directory and various other things on the servers like event logs, but there are some things I do not want them accessing like Group Policy, Exchange Management, Sophos Console. I know the obvious thing to do is to tell them not to use the applications but I don't suppose anyone is aware whether you can password applications like this?

Hi we have been trying to use SIMS to work through applying our admissions criteria for Year 7 applications. We are using banding based on CAT scores, taking 20% of our students from each band. The problem is we have lots of students with CAT scores which fall on the edge of two bands, and SIMS seems to be quite arbitrary in which students go in which band - it doesn't appear to be baed on any of our other criteria or even alphabetical. I'm wondering if we need to add distance as a filter in the banding but not sure? Thanks in advance for your help!

I am looking for a way of adding applicants on to SIMS quickly. I can see there have been a few threads on this with similar senarios, but I have not found the answer yet, and those threads have not had replies in a while. We are a sixth form free school academy, taking applicants from many schools in the area. Applications come to us through a local online applcation system, and via our website (as we take students from across 3 local authorities). I have combined the data from the systems into an excel file to have a common format for all applications. I am looking at entering some of this data into SIMS, previously this has been done one applicant at a time, directly in SIMS, but I am hoping there is a more efficient way. Having all the data in a spreadsheet I was hoping with a few tweaks I could upload it directly to SIMS, but having been given the permissions to add data into SIMS I realise this is not as straightforward as I'd hoped. I would appreciate any guidance or experience anyone has to offer. Thanks Doug

For our sixth form we are looking at implementing an online application form for new students. The information needing to be put into it are such details as address, contact information and other secure information, was just wondering if anyone did something similar and had a secure way of storing the data.
