How many motor mechanics can't drive, Watch makers can't tell the time, Indian chefs don't eat curry? Teach people how to use a computer properly, see how useful it is, then show them how to code and make it better. Anyone who knows how to use a spreadsheet properly needs to know how to use VBA, Workprocessing is increasingly using XML. This bloke and his whole co-hort need removing from their positions as soon as possible. It's now just a damage limitation excerise.

I understand. I have been in your position. The first Mac was bought to manage the iPads. There are plenty of walk throughs on setting it up and it's not that hard. Regarding the money, just tell the leadership how it is. They can use the iPads as they are for the time being, but whoever bought them (I hope it's not you) didn't do their homework. To get them working how they want needs a Mac. Simple. Buy me the tools to do the job (Mac and a Sync trolley) and you'll get it working how you want. Until then you'll have to put up with it. The trolleys come in two flavours remember, some just charge and some charge and sync. Make sure you get the right one.

I get the same issue. RPC timeout = 180 and we are using http. We might have 8 Toshiba C850 laptops all running it on wireless, Win 7 SP1, Smartcache Proxy, Server 2003 domain and we'll get one, may two with this issue. Closing down Lexia and opening it again sometimes brings it back. I'm thinking that maybe the wireless is dropping just long enough to for lexia to time out as they are moving. The affected computer can run the rest of the day without issue once someone else has logged on or the same user has logged off/on again.

To me the only sensible way to push out apps is to Use a macOS device with Apple configurator on to download the apps and supervise the iPads. Use a Syncing charging trolley to charge and Sync them after each use or over night. You can get trolleys that take upto 32 iPads. This may be all you need. If you have 10 class sets then they would need to bring them in to get the new apps, or you could take your Macbook to their trolley to sync them. Alternatively each trolley could have a MacBook and the teachers could sync them themselves. This can all be done will VPP to purchase the apps and "gift" them.

Servers + Damp Broom cupboard + office staff in close proximity = Chronic cluster whine. No one is going to be happy with this. The servers won't be. The staff even less so if they decide to shut down. (Without AC you have a hot humid broom cupboard when you switch your servers on). The office staff won't be happy, they will be able to hear them through the wall. I know office staff NEVER moan, they put up with changes in temperature, noise, light and just accept it all with their usual sunny disposition. Seriously though I have had office staff raise calls because the Sun's in the wrong place and they can't see the screen! That is CALLS, well I didn't move the sun did I! The cleaners will moan because it's in their cupboard. You won't be happy because you know deep inside it's in the wrong place. EDIT: If you find a cabinet that won't let water vapour and dust in or sound out, it won't let heat out either. We've been approached by Arbour too. If you are going to drop all your school data on to the cloud servers of a 3rd party do your due diligence. You need to check that they are established and stable. You don't want them going belly up and taking your school data with them. Just imagine losing all your HR, pupil tracking, financial, payroll..... This will give you an idea of what you should be looking at. Bulk upload available though a bit fiddly. So you can use your net tool to find out what it can and add the rest. Or upload your existing spreadsheet. We needed to add monitors, software, warranty and support agreements (Yes, remember these are assets too!), projectors, scanners, printers, Digital signage, infrastructure actives, UPS, KVM server room solutions, IWB, voting systems, Smart tables, Flasma, Laptop trolleys, tablets and more. All with the original cost, Date of purchase etc. More importantly the location too. Your network discovery tools just don't do the job. A good start but no more. You can also delegate access. So the SBM could have read only access of everything or you could give the Science dept the option to manage their own kit so if they move stuff they can update the register. You can also schedule Proactive and Preventative Maintenence tasks (Cleaning Projector filters every 1/2 term say) and it will track the tasks and you can pull off a maintenence history of any peice of kit. You can attach documents to assets. That could be the proof of purchase for a warranty or a Transfer of Waste note for WEEE disposal and it will also track what you decommission too. The only advice I would give is like any Database, think carefully about the structure before you start uploading assets. Particularly what fields to include for the assets and your location heirachy. Data Intergrity is everything. The good thing is if you are farming out the data capture this is made easier as once you have input a particular asset, (projector/epson/EX82) those will appear from a drop down list for subsequent entries. If you have a few people updating it, no problem. No sharing violations or checking out the spreadsheet for version management.

If it is something leaning against the board the cursor will always return to the same point. This can also happen if the surface has been damaged (Teacher used drawing pins for example!!) but this is much less likely with Promethean. How long is the USB cable to the board anthing over 5m and you could be suffering from signal loss. Then it could also be cross talk interference from a florescent light, telephone, speaker etc that the USB happens to pass by, say in the ceiling void. Try a sheilded USB cable for that. It's not the mouse or the computer, as you point out they work OK when the IWB is off. Can you detail what extensive trouble shooting you have done to save us going over the road twice?

There's nothing stopping SIMS running now across the network so why would they think there would be any Network Issues? SIMS works fine on a virtual Server 2012 instance. Are these people local? I've never heard of them. They seem pretty determind to make money out you.

Obvious thing first, you are choosing Yes to continue at the serurity warning right? Other that that this could be caused by any one of a number of things. Icluding DNS, Certificate, IIS, Proxy settings or just plain old network connectivity. Does RMMC work from the server? If you have access to the RM Knowledge library try looking at TEC363864.

This may turn into yet another IOS/Proxy moanfest. CM3 is a clould app that our students can use to make their own apps (kinda) for the iPads. In school they can log on using the windows computers and make the app. But they can't load up and run the app in school. If they take the iPad home it works fine. But the app won't work in school even if it has been installed at home. It looks like a proxy issue. We use port 8080 to force everything through the proxy. Inclusive say: * The app uses standard HTTP protocol with the HelpKidzLearn domain. Specifically the web-services are port 80. * There are no special sub-domains or other protocols used. * The app would use the proxy settings you have as these settings are part of the network connection that is managed by iOS rather than the app. The iPad can browse to HelpKidzLearn no problem. To me it looks like safari is using the proxy settings that were manually entered and the app is hard coded to use port 80. It doesn't matter that their webserver is port 80 that's what the proxy uses externally. Has anyone else seen this issue?

I wonder what the legalities would be if you ripped the DVDs to AVI, MP4 or alternative, dropped them in a shared drive and used VLC player to veiw them. I half remember some relaxation of performing rights for education. I wonder if that makes it legal. I'd be really interest to know if someone could advise.

Set them all to 15 minutes, this is an information security (InfoSec) breach, and a serious one at that. You need to report any and all breeches to the schools information manager. They need a nominated person under the data protection act. Failure to keep data safe is a legal matter. If they are running videos or similar tell them to use presentation mode Adjust settings before giving a presentation.

If you re-direct everything to network servers deny access to the local drives where the profiles are. Use a GPO to hide c: and remove anything they can use to find it too, like cmd.

One school I work with has just subscribed to "TheLifeChannel". They brought out their "New" SFF PC. XP Sp3, no AV, no Firewall switched on I said that there is no way that that is going on this network. To the Head's credit the school agreed and they can't install until they supply a device that isn't a risk to the network.

If you must give everyone their own remote permanently mark them with a number (not a name, people move on) and keep a register. Talk to your Bursar/SBM tell them how it's costing the school money and gain agreement to charge any replacements to departments. When they come to you for batteries check it really is their remote. If you talk the SBM then you may find that issues of fixing them down might disappear anyway. I'm guessing you have more staff than projectors so your wasting money from the off.

Your filtering unit will need to have an interface on the wireless vlan with an IP within that vlan range. Once that it present you can then use that IP as the DFG, this is usually one higher than the network address to follow convention.
