    Anker here as well. Their CS can't be beat. Had the charging port on mine break, they sent me a new updated one free of charge. I have the 8400 mha one since December of 2011 and saved me many times.

    I want your script too. Extra points if it is usable for MDT as post install process. We have all pro licenses so no bitlocker for me.

    Firewall rules most likely. For everything except screens it goes through the server, screens are a direct connection on ports 30200 and up (iirc)

    We use to use some vocera devices. They worked great, had a bunch of features, and some wonderful easter eggs.

    Why build your own... You can buy a DVR box that will do 16 cameras for under $150. Throw a 2 TB HDD in there for another $100 and the DVR part if done. I use to build them using Digivue (EYESPY), which was a $400 card for the box and only did 9 streams at that point.

    Why not? If you VM host is powerful enough for running 30 VMs, then your server could easily run them all as one server. There are such products that do... Image based backups and can do a bare metal restore of them. They can also do incremental backups in the 15 minute range and these backups can be used a VM environment if it all went to he**.

    Your welcome. I suspect it was my post... It depends on the number of PCs. For example... 100 PCs is $240 USA (something like 172 euros...), but up to 250 is 600 USA (like 450 euros). Think of it monthly and it gets easier to swallow though. $20 USA for up to 100 PCs is an easy costm

    DNS on a DC should always (very few exceptions) be pointing to itself (or another DC on that domain).

    Ninite will sort out installing all common software. Java, flash, air, etc, you need it. It can handle updates as well

    That's the beauty of it is it doesn't need any GPO changes. What firewall/proxy do you have? (If none this can be done with either (or both) pfsense and squid - both free). You would simply select either the PCs or the users and block access on the proxy. If by PC, it would affect all users on that PC, if by user it wouldn't matter what computer they would be using. You could make a group with all the PCs in it and do all 50 or even 5000 in the same amount of time. 1. Receive request from staff to block access. 2. Login to device and in a few clicks, block access. 3. Seconds later computers are no longer browsing web 4. Profit knowing you accomplished your goal in under a minute.

    Avast personally. If in USA, and a school, you can get the top version 100% free. Corporate wise we have started to use a lot of Viper. 1000 or so PCs. Fits your bill 100%

    Correct way to do this is on your firewall/ proxy. Controlled centrally, can't be undone by the user like a proxy script can be, and you most likely already have the tools needed.

    This should be fairly easy to solve no additional cost.... Check if the printer supports any sort of acl. We have a hp 2025 (cheap, cost around $200) that we can specify what ips can print to it. Password protect the settings page. Set ips to the print server. Set permissions on the printer object to only allow teachers. Done.

    To give a better answer, no need for login scripts... GPO everything!

    I posted a piece of software that will do this in the edu notification forum. What you need to do is have a scheduled task that runs the client every x minutes, then just place the all message and it will be delivered either at logon or within the time frame.
