About spq1216

  1. Thanks for all your info. I may pass along the info about PaperCut. They are pretty much all just direct IP and a few of the students know about to add the printers. Unfortunately I dont really run the show completely. I have my building to manage but anything that is bought or implemented needs department approval at the district level. I will see if I can come up with something. Sometimes I just want to say "Have consequences if the students abuse the equipment!" lol We are a huge district (30+ buildings) and no real standard lol Got to love it.
  2. Anyone know of anyway you can password protect a printer so that students cant just print whatever they please? ie: The teacher can come over and type a password or key to allow use of the printer? I work at an alternative school and some of the 6th grades like to print non school related material. I could just delete the printer off of the laptops but the teacher wants the ability to print word files and what not. We use windows 7 with HP printers. Any feedback would be helpful.
  3. Hi All, Anyone ever make simple videos and post them you YouTube then pass the link around your organization? Was there any sort of feedback you got? I made a simple video on changing your Firefox Home Page that I am going to experiment with next time I get asked. (Happens more than you think Haha) Just wondering and below is the video I made in MovieMaker just messing around. Thanks
  4. Ours is in a closet that is in the basement with a key that only I (IT person), Custodian and Principle have.
  5. Hi All, I have a teacher in my building that uses Dropbox. When she goes to the site in IE (and Firefox she claims) none of the icons load correctly and all are lined up on the left side of the screen. Is there a quick fix or something that needs changed or installed to remedy this?
  6. They are Flip mino HD cameras. They do not have a battery pack.I have the cameras hooked up to USB ports to charge. I did not allow the computer to go into sleep mode while charging and they were on all night. Windows 7 is not even recognizing the devices (I imagine that is due to them being completely dead) Has anyone dealt with this before? Is there a manual way to get windows to find the device (I tried device manger>scan for new hardware. No success)
  7. Thanks Scoty. You were helpful. I'm not sure why they were all reset. (Nobody here is) I just sort of inherited the administration of these things so I'm learning as I go. Normally I try a few different things until I figure it out but with an organizations money involved it sort of changes things. I hope the "change" coming means I wont have to deal with purchasing apps but in the event I am I know I need to get familiar with the process.
  8. Hi Scotyboy56, I would say yes to the fact that the current apps on the macbook were purchased that way. They are going to change the way things are done with purchasing apps but I just wanted to load things with what we have now. So as long as the apps we currently have were purchased with the VPP I should be ok? As far as purchasing new apps I will cross that bridge when we come to it. I was just unsure if I loaded the ipads that I would hit a licenses limit or charge the district unknowingly (thus being responsible for the charges) Haha
  9. [h=2][/h]On the ipad I did as a test, under Apps>"Not on this Ipad" I can see the paid apps and install them from there if I tap the cloud icon. Is this the correct method? Why would it install this way but not from A.C.? If I do this for all the Ipads will I hit a licenses issue or am I ok since its been paid? In Configurator the paid apps have a triangle with an exclamation point in it next to them, indicating I need a redemption code. They were obviously paid for by whoever originally downloaded them but why when I try to put them back on the ipads does this happen? (NOTE:The previous tech did a factory reset on every ipad before I came (thank you previous tech ) I am new to the whole apple configurator/sync cart deal.) i
  10. Hi All, I have a staff member here that users her own macbook. She created an Excel doc in Office 2010 for for mac. She sent it to another teacher who has office 2007. They asked for my help because some drop down list in the original document (mac office 2010) is not displaying in office 2007 for windows. I verified the 2007 windows user was not in protected mode. After looking into this I suggested he download the Microsoft Office compatibility pack then try as it has a mention of a drop down list fix. When I spoke to him on Monday he had not downloaded the compatibility pack, he claimed the mac user told him "That does not work, I tried it at home with my sons computer" I told him to download it anyway and give it a try himself. So far no word yet. Just wondering if anyone had noticed anything funny when sending office files across platforms?
