  1. They can make the shortcut on their home PC and run it from a flash drive. If you block flash drives, they can email the shortcut to themselves and run it from temp. Yes, if you block .lnk files through GPO that might stop that, but open a whole new can of worms / work for you to do.
  2. Still running XP? You will need to allow .lnk files as well
  3. I have personally started recommending one array in almost every case. You can partition in windows however you want and there is little to gain by having separate VDs. A 5,6, or 10 will recover from a disk failure no problem just as easy if it is one VD as it will if it is 2. There is benefits to having one array, for example your hot spare is much more useful, adding disks and expanding partitions is much more clean, m management is easier, etc.
  4. I have this issue and want to kill Microsoft. Here is what I have noticed: Many PCs affected. 2013 home and business Once A PC throws that error, any file, even a blank one will throw the error. A reboot fixes it again for a short time I loaded 2010 and this works without the error. Even when 13 throws the error, 2010 still works. A trigger point for us was attach a file to am email from a drive and then open the attachment (before sending). This sets it off. Multiple PCs built off multiple images MS support can't or won't fix it. They did acknowledge it and go WTF? 2010 has its own issues (like can't hit enable editing without closing and reopening sometimes). I hate office (or excel at least)
  5. Hiding the c drive is a waste of time. Right click, new shortcut, put whatever you want in there \\localhost\c$, hit save 2x (normally get an error the first time) and viola. Office not required.
  6. All I can think is that if you do that don't install the vbox additions - you'll just have to remove then for hyper v
  7. I turn all my scripts containing passwords into exe's
  8. Oh. I thought (hoped) it was something I could add to my current lab - maybe next time we are buying PCs....
  9. Someone with Flex PCs... Is this a full PC, a case that you transplant your PC into, or a wrap around case?
  10. Well, we use regular non roaming profiles on each PC. We customize the default profile so when you log on you get a set experience. Doesn't mean you can't break it though. If you hose your profile somehow we just delete and have you log in again
  11. I haven't been able to do that. However, there is a nice tool to convert the sbf and SBI files to vhds. You would still be left with several vhds - one for each partition - though.
  12. I manage approx 10 vipre sites (my team does over 100) - we happen to like it. Careful - there are various companies licensing viper and calling it something else - ymmv as a result.
  13. Access to the exchange server? How about a scheduled task to run a PS script that turns it on... support.microsoft.com/kb/2667296
  14. How about a offline p2v using the systinternals tool? I have no idea if it will work. Normally I would do a backup with shadow protect and then convert to vhd using shadowprotect
  15. How about SRP on the thin image blocking explorer? Don't fight the keyboard, block the programs they run...
  16. Half life 3 confirmed as real. (Someone had to)
  17. Belerac Advisor?
  18. Out of personal curiosity, why stay away from those?
  19. This should be doable. All you want to do is boot from the stick and pull the image as normal from WDS server? Look into MDT - it can generate the ISO file you need.
  20. What exactly is wrong with Avast? (Endpoint protection version)
  21. Open the customsettings.INI and add _SMSTSOrgName=Blah That is all that is needed....
  22. That's based on your package. If the package is scriptable as no input needed, it will not require any user input. Otherwise you should repack it as silent with advanced installer. All this does is take MDT out of asking if it wants to install it
  23. What you want to do is add them As a mandatory package. You need the GUID (listed in the package screen) and add it to the customsettings.ini
  24. A new user account should dump all user gpos if no DC to apply them. Removing the PC from the domain should dump all user and PC gpos. Otherwise, somewhere it caches the GPOs on the PCs - not sure where.
