Microsoft tried it's own rival for flash. Not embedding Silverlight into the browser though. Almost an admission of defeat I think. I agree with most of the others on here though. This won't really be a step forward unless they can master the silent update process. Too often I have to click the postpone button to stop windows rebooting because an update was applied.

I was going to say disable the volume control icon or system try but without GP that will be very difficult. The way I allow access to the volume control is a shortcut to SndVol.exe in the start menu that just displays the mixer.

Can you not use the follow documents setting on the redirect GPO. If the documents library path is correct this should allow the others to update accordingly. I disable the libraries completely as I couldn't stop them from being local.

It could be SPF as in this post Google Groups but I would think that would prevent any outgoing mail.

May seem like a silly question but have you allowed out-of-domain sharing for your organisation. Under settings drive and docs, sharing

I discovered in the past that the HP printer drivers are very picky about the names. Take alook in the inf file to see what the driver is actually being called or try the HP universal driver if it will support the printers you have. I had a hell of a job with the HP printers and once I got it working I didn't ever try an update of the driver just in case it broke it all again ;-)

If you use the original login again for the librarian, i.e. no admin rights, and set up a new account for the running of the thumbprint software (with admin rights), you should then be able to set in the compatibility setting to always run as admin. This way when the librarian runs the software it will ask for authentication and you can put in the admin user's credentials, or use RunasSPC to automate it if it doesn't need to be that secure (or you don't mind anyone using it on the librarians comp)

Because all of the access points were attached to the same network. Unless you run a network cable from your AP to your neighbours you won't be able to do this.

Wireless repeaters can be used but the signal you are repeating needs to be set up too. Unless your neighbour minds you looking into his router settings to see if it can accept wireless repeaters then this will not work. Your first option will never work because the wireless signals, although identical, are from different sources. It's kind of like when cars get cloned. They will both have the same number plate but are still different cars. Your only solution I can see is to check your neighbour access point for repeater settings and set your AP up as it's repeater.

For a cheaper solution I would recommend Unifi. Have it site wide here and it seems just as good as the expensive systems. Speak to @m25man or more details

Try installing the certificate and see if that helps. If so you'll need a group policy to install the certificate to your users

The only consideration here really, is do you want more than 4 gig memory. If you want 4 gig or more then 64 bit is a must, otherwise 32bit will be fine. The next thing is office (when you upgrade), don't put the 64bit version on unless you have users using huge spreadsheets. There is no gain to a normal user and you may find that you get limited functionality as most add-ons will not work on 64bit office edit: sorry missed the processor bit. Any modern processor will be fine we have machine in use here with amd athlonX2 and some intel dual core. If you want something quiet and kind to the budget go for AMD Athlons or above, otherwise intel's i3/i5 series cost a little more generally but any modern processor fan is quiet even the stock ones

Can you post a screenshot of the config screen of one of the shortcuts in gpp? I feel it may be connected to the folder you have asked the shortcuts to be created in.

Looks to be $i for rows but it takes a variable of numRows from somewhere so I would guess that the file you will need the edit is where-ever the function Spreadsheet_Excel_Reader is

Currently very rarely but we are moving over to a Moodle system that will be used just because the training has been delivered better. I'm getting help requests for adding ever advanced items to it every day

user config /admin templates /start menu and task bar/ prevent changes to taskbar and start menu settings and user config/admin templates/system/ prevent access to command prompt

We have right click enabled here. I even allow pinning items to the taskbar for win7. As the students have roaming appdata this allows them to access more commonly used programs quickly and without me having to fill the taskbar with icons at staff request. Just make sure you go through the things that can be done with a right click (and there are too many to list TBH) and see if they should sensibly be disabled or not. Sorry can't be too much more help really but as long as you remove the obvious disallow access to start menu and task bar preferences disallow access to command line (shift and right click will allow to open command window at location) That should prevent serious problems as most other options are related to their own profile and if they stuff that up there's really only one person to blame
