  1. Right I'v gone back to my GPOs and reset the security on each one to the default authenticated users and it seems to work. Odd how it just started to go funny though when it had been happy with different security groups before. Thanks
  2. The exclamation mark is because it can't display the computer settings for that user but well spotted I hadn't noticed before.
  3. Any help on this issue would be greatly received as its puzzling the heck (substitute your own profanity here) out of me. Below is a screen shot of a machine that has been getting no internet for students and that obvious when looking at the proxy settings for the machine as they are non-existent. However if I run RSOP.msc I get the setting on the right that are supposed to have been applied. I think doesn't quite sum it up. I've check rsop from the server as well and it reports the same so it's not a machine policy messing it up and group policy loopback is merging settings so if I'm reading the setting right user preferences should take precedence. (correct me if I'm wrong on that but either way proxy settings per machine is not on so should not make a difference anyway) Any ideas???
  4. I use this but bear in mind that it picks up a lot of background noise including the TV so not ideal for this purpose. I have an old SOCOM usb headset that I got for ps2 that works but it isn't wireless so I can't sit in my usual seat when I wear it.
  5. Can be awkward this but can be done with VBScript. Pin Items to the Start Menu or Windows 7 Taskbar via Script - The Deployment Guys - Site Home - TechNet Blogs
  6. Does the fact that they've used two i make it doubly interactive or is it just lack of imagination or that Wii was already taken
  7. Very clever. Thank you!
  8. I used to be in the server room and actually had to threaten union intervention before anything was done. I then got moved into a store cupboard but this was loads better than the noisy environment of the servers. Now I am in the admin office with the rest of the admin staff so I even have someone to talk to now (albeit they are all of the female persuasion and I'm the only male)
  9. Both blocked here grr!!
  10. Having just purchased the serif suite. +1 for the above.
  11. Try with command prompt (as admin for win 7) Command Line Printer Control
  12. I think you need to have the https binding in there. It's required for the silverlight browser but even if you use the basic I think it's needed for the setup file.
  13. Read this first, it will explain what the files are. RES.RWM file question (WDS related) Then work out if you can use the existing images or if it's better for you to wipe them and start again. When I came to this school the imaging of the machines was very sketchy and so implementing a good structure to WDS became a necessity. I found that although quite difficult to set up at first using the MDT tools has been invaluable with regards to a simple deployment and management of images without having to take up a large amount of disk space. It works like a stripped down version sccm so you can deploy different software to identical hardware with just a click. Good luck with this. It is probably the hardest thing to control and keep efficient
  14. I would suggest that although the unit does ask for video and audio it does not say that ripping it illegally from the internet is the way to get it. I feel sure that there are other ways of getting the needed content. I've not looked at this myself yet but maybe having an area on the VLE for the students to get some dummy clips/sample videos would be a better way to go. You can then make them as small as possible to prevent filling up of precious server hard drive space.
  15. Just had a thought. Are you using WSUS for windows updates. If so you can install System Center Update Publisher and get the Adobe updates straight into WSUS.
  16. Are you saying that they are denying you distribution rights? What did you need to get the link for.
  17. Impero has a new option in v3.1.somethingorother that will unlock a pc and re-lock it again (useful for if a staff member sends a ticket to helpdesk and I try and fix when they are out of the room). It seems to me that if it's possible just to kill the lock screen you should be able to do it with a command.
  18. Strange I can. Browser crashed half way through post so maybe it was the recovery option that corrupted Try those ones
  19. I've tried to get some screens of the setup. This is what I have installed on the Xibo server Xibo (kind of obvious really) Wordpress v3.2.1 with the following plugins Active Directory Integration (users are placed in a no access group at first log on) Content Scheduler (enable post expiry) Issuu PDF Sync (allows easy publishing to Newsletter site and returns embed code) Quick Post Widget (a really clever plugin that allows WYSIWYG post creation from the front end) Restrict Categories (allows to add users to only be able to add posts in a single category i.e. English teacher can only post to English) Theme My Login (login to wordpress from the front end) User Role Editor (allows to change or add wordpress roles i.e. I've added a Staff role that can post but not delete and the NoAccess role that can only view) Obviously any theme will be fine for this but I used zeeBusiness because it allowed for multiple custom menus. Xibo layouts are scheduled for each department to have a few minutes of rss feed time per hour. The feeds can be retrieved using http://xibo-server/wordpress/category/{whatever}/feed/rss2/. Gallery 3.02 from Gallery | Your photos on your website with the minislideshow plugin downloaded from here Module for MiniSlide Show integration | Gallery This screenshot is the result of all the plugins on the wordpress installation The menu options run as follows New Message; Self explanatory really but always defaults to the staff members allowed category. The Quick Post Widget is displayed in the page and allows some arbitrary formatting to keep all messages the same style. I have all mine formatted but the staff can add colours and italic text to emphasize words if necessary Screen Manager; A link to the Xibo backend. Kept in for my use only really so may move it to the Admin menu. Add Team; This is a link to a football team flash animation so that new teams can be added to the displays. I can make this available I think if anyone wants to (need to check license on flash file as it was developed for us.) Photo Slideshow; Links to the gallery 3 page. Users can add a gallery after which an email is sent to me so that I can schedule it in the appropriate place. Post Overview; Is just that so that I can edit any typos if necessary (not that we have teachers who can't string a coherent sentence together) Admin Backend; Some links for me to help with the admin. wp-admin dashboard, MySQL admin, Xibo support etc. Hope some of this info is useful for you.
  20. I've returned and I'm very grateful that the Geek wasn't down for any longer. I had withdrawal symptoms that resulted in some very productive days
  21. I've been working on getting a photo gallery into xibo and have finally cracked it. My setup is below. Xibo server has wordpress installed. RSS feeds are categorised in wordpress and each department has a user that can only post into their category. A small modification was needed to the rss feed php file to display the whole feed all the time not an except. This mean teacher can send messages direct to the screen and their department has a few minutes of scheduled time every hour for this. These messages expire after 1 week but can be extended if necessary. The wordpress front end is designed with custom menus to link into the different systems to make it as easy as possible for staff to add the content they want without actually accessing the xibo interface that they found a little complex. Gallery 3 also installed on the xibo server with minislideshow add-on. This allows any slideshows to generate embed code to put directly into xibo. This is not currently automatic so each gallery has to be embedded as required. The newsletters are sent to issuu.com which generates a flip-book style flash page that can also be embed into a xibo template. This setup took quite a while to complete but it make the running of the screens much less taxing for me. Would be happy to write a full how to with plugins used etc if anyone is interested. @ mods is this something that could go on the wiki?
  22. We have a 24 hour response I think but the engineer lives in the area so just calls in on the off chance sometimes. Usually he has to do something but I think it's more the reliability of the photocopiers than the staff.
  23. And to put a post on here!! You must have too much spare time
  24. Jaguar X-Type 2.0. Thirsty! That's about all I can say about it really except that it is probably the most comfortable car I've driven. Want to get an XF Diesel for the economy
  25. What you want to do with the domain text requires hacking the dll for the login screen which I would suggest is maybe a little bit of overkill. You used to be able to use bginfo to do stuff like this but I don't think they updated it for a Win 7 login. However you could try this that was posted on the sysinternals forum (the people who made bginfo) Can we get a new BGInfo for Windows 7? - Sysinternals Forums - Page 1
