  1. We're almost there with Windows 10. Went with 1511 LTSB and our next image will be based on the 1607 LTSB I imagine. We couldn't get the start menu to do what we wanted so we went with Classic Start in the end One of the smoothest rollouts I've ever been a part of. Not had any issues with office 2016 so far - but we're a bit further behind with the rollout for that
  2. Since I heard the news I keep finding myself singing along to john ketley is a weatherman in my head (mainly the bit containing the penultimate line)

    Gaming Chat

I've only managed nuclear weapons on one of my games so far and didn't use them I'm usually too close to winning by the time they are developed (I play on King difficulty as I can usually win but not always). none of the computer controlled people seem to use them either. I've been doing huge maps taking control of each civ in alphabetical order. Currently on my third attempt with Teddy
  4. Did this for the first time ever. 1410GB freed on the fileserver (turned off recycle bins in group policy now)
  5. Love Never Dies (2012) Not actually that bad although some bits of it are a bit weird. It picks up 10 years after the end of The Phantom of the Opera after He has moved to New York As it's a musical there is quite a lot of singing, all of it performed really quite well, but as with every film I watched recently there were a few niggles 1. Christine sings so high that sometimes I struggled to make out the words 2. Meg reminded me too much of Mel from Doctor Who - only missing the ginger hair (technically bonnie langford but i don't think i've ever seen her in anything else so they remain one and the same person in my mind) 3. The Phantom of the Opera song doesn't get a look in except for one, occasionally repeated, line. The boy's performance was really quite good but hearing a 10 year old boy singing like that kept making me think of the film "The Snowman" and I've had "Walking in the Air" running around my brain all weekend now. Overall I quite enjoyed it but I suspect I'd have enjoyed it more seeing it live in the West End (the dvd release is just an edited recording of a performance in melbourne)
  6. When you hear this noise ##beeep## turn the cassette over
  7. Only heard once "I don't need the training session - i've just googled how to do it"
  8. It probably is a six month thing. You can change it with his I think Set-MailboxCalendarFolder -Identity xxxxxxxx:\Calendar –PublishEnabled $true -PublishDateRangeFrom SixMonths -PublishDateRangeTo OneYear
  9. The Blair Witch Project (1999) A triumph of marketing over substance there. Within 15 minutes I was quite looking forward to them all being killed off. What a bunch of whiny sh*ts. If somehow you don't know the plot, it's about three people who go off to make a documentary in a forest, get lost, moan constantly about everything and probably die Completely unrealistic - I mean three Americans going camping without a gun?!?!? Never going to happen. I can remember all of the fuss this caused when I was at university - must have been simpler times. When The Lights Went Out (2012) Not too bad. It's apparently based on real events and the house has been investigated by the Most Haunted team so what more build up could one ask for in a ghost film? It is actually one of the better films I've seen this year - if they hadn't bothered with the ghost bit at the end I'd probably thought it better A northern family get a nicer council house which turns out to be haunted but the mother/wife character doesn't want to give up their nice new home so they just put up with it. Eventually the happenings escalate until she realises that this was a fairly daft plan. Unfortunately neither meet the level of quality of Ghostwatch (1992) which is my yardstick for how good a horror film can be. Insidious is one of the better ones I've seen in the last few years though if that sort of thing is your bag
  10. I use kitchen roll (plenty) and cotton buds with ethanol (from the school chemistry dept) to clean off the gunk. I've not had an issue but i've never advised anyone to copy me either.
  11. Personal laptops at home either use OWA/built-in-mailapp/remoteapp or if they absolutely have to use outlook 2013 they bring them to me and I configure the proxy settings (most people are happy with owa and 2016 configures itself quite happily). I've done it for maybe 6 people the bit I set is below but I've never asked a user to do it Configure Outlook to use Exchange Anywhere (RPC over HTTP) — Information Technologies — Penn State College of Ag Sciences
  12. When we were asked if it could be done they still wanted messages sent with high importance to get through and messages from parents to smt to get through and be replied to but not necessarily pupils unless they were urgent.
  13. With those sized drives you can get away with raid5 but if you don't need easy expansion or the space then raid10 is what I recommend and set all of my servers to for performance (all my mechanical ones anyway)
  14. Our progession from 2010 to 2013 was driven by people wanting the non-pop up reply in outlook. this time people want the last edited attachment list. MS may as well not bother with updating the other programs Editing pdfs with word 2013 is done by about 5 people here but oddly they are some of the least technically literate teachers we have - almost everyone who wants to do it just uses acrobat.
  15. I noticed that on my DC this morning. Quite irritating
  16. It was setup by the previous network manager afresh on windows 2000. The had something before then which involved windows 98 but that's all the information I have about it - we never spoke about it much.
  17. Easter for the reasons you give. We try and keep summer stuff to things people won't notice as teachers have enough to cope with on day 1 of a new year - they don't really need us adding to it if we can do it another way. You could update departments during term time though could you?
  18. Mine was created 9/3/01
  19. we changed from schoolname.suffolk.sch.uk to just schoolname.school using one of the new tlds last year - makes for a very short email address

    fire TV

I have a firetv box and a stick. The box is much more responsive and the wifi downstairs n my house is a bit rubbish so having an ethernet option is quite a plus I may or may not use extra software on it. Haven't tried any other media boxes though to compare but I'm quite happy with it. Not got a 4k tv to see how it upscales.
  21. In place. I never had any issues updating DCs before. Has put me off in-plcae-updating anything to 2016 though.
  22. In the space of a couple of weeks we have gone from American Horror Story (S6), The Catch (S1), House of Cards (S4), Orange is the New Black (S3), Wentworth (S4), The Blacklist (S3), Stranger Things (S1), The X-Files (S7), Game of Thrones (S4) and Transformers (S3 / Gen1) to American Horror Story (S6), Ash Vs Evil Dead (S2), Orphan Black (S3), How to Get Away with Murder (S3), Stranger Things (S1), South Park (S20), The Simpsons (S28), The X-Files (S7), Please Like Me (S4), Game of Thrones (S5) and Thundercats (1985 / S1) We have trialled the first episodes of Oz, Exorcist and Westworld. All three, we decided, needed a second episode before a final decision to include them in the rotation. Westworld might prove a conundrum though as neither of us like Westerns (or things set in the area) but we both enjoy light Sci-Fi and the actors Anthony Hopkins and Sidse Babett Knudsen (who sounds more danish doing an American accent than she does when doing a British one). The Catch isn't worth watching. Its highlight is John Simm because he's the only one who seems to have put any effort into it even though he's really just playing a slightly less insane version of his The Master character. Please don't waste your time with it Transformers is much better before the film (seasons 1 and 2). Even the quality of the animation is worse for season 3 The X-Files season 7 is just boring. It's taking a while to get through because neither of us have any enthusiasm for it. Should be finished by the end of the month though and hopeful maybe Season 8 might be good enough to have watched by Christmas. Season 20 of South Park is so far not as good as any of the previous 19 seasons. Now the election is out of the way perhaps they'll stop going on about it.
  23. Yes and Yes. I've done it many times but with 2016 it caused all sorts of probs. KMS: Set Windows 7 to Non-genuine. Imaging, a 2012R2 KMS server and using Active Directory Activation to sort DHCP: Stopped issuing leases, required deauthorising, uninstalling and reinstalling and reauthorising to fix NPS: Manual service start required Radius accounting: Stopped logging, deleted logs and restarted service Time Server: Stopped being one - used this key to fix: reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\w32time\TimeProviders\NtpServer /v Enabled /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f They're the ones I've noticed thus far
  24. Yes - with the exclusions detailed here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3105657
