For a long while we were told just to keep buying more storage and although the delete nothing rule still applies we now buy a 1tb usb drive each year and archive the oldest stuff off onto it. We leave it connected for a few months in case anyone notices it is gone and then it gets stored in a drawer. even after that about a third of our 8tb fileserver is just pictures. more annoyng is the reallay descriptive names they give them taking them past the 260 character limit

I'm not sure it is quite the same problem but occasionally ours get asked to reenroll when the card is misread and/or if the card number has a 0 at the beginning it sometimes seems to exist in ad/papercut without that 0 and we have to manually type it in again.

Watched Ender's Game at the weekend. It's alright I suppose - seemed very short with little character development but entertaining enough. It's not a patch on the book but then films based on books almost never are.

[sold/traded] Ruckus ZD1200, 70 Licences, 41 AP £2000
Sagima replied to Sagima's topic in Classified Adverts
Definitely a 1200 - we haven't had it for long (about a year) but we added a few buildings we weren't expecting to the school site and its 75 AP limit was suddenly an issue so we moved to SmartZone virtual machine allowing us 100 APs and at the same time replaced over half of our old APs with R710s. -
We have just replaced our old Ruckus system with a new one and have the following available if anyone wants to buy them off of us 1x ZD1200 with 70 licences 32x ZF7363 8x ZF7372 1x ZF7762 with 2.4GHz and 5GHz boosters All for £2000 if collected (Ipswich, Suffolk) We were hoping to sell them as one lot rather than piecemeal

Watched Sherlock Holmes at the weekend (the 2009 guy ritchie one). It was alright but we both agreed that it was about 30-40 minutes too long. We'll watch the sequel at some point to see if it's any better. The one thought that I kept returning to whilst watching it was that I think Ian McShane would have played that Sherlock better than RDJ. GR wouldn't have been my first choice for director of a Sherlock Holmes film but he didn't do too badly to be honest. Probably give the whole thng 6.5/10

Exchange 2013 CU13 added support for 4.6.1 I think (it certainly works with mine) but I've kept it off of my other servers for the moment

The chipset drivers might sort that for you

Might be spanning tree on the switch unless it is just that one computer - try on another switch?

I've seen that error before but not in relation to folder redirection. If you want to check if anything has gone beyond the 260 character limit then I use this bit of powershell Get-ChildItem -r * |? {$_.GetType().Name -match "File" } |? {$_.fullname.length -ge 260} |%{$_.fullname} Our primary school is very keen on using exceptionally detailed folder names and file names (like having picture names listing the first and second name of every child in the picture and putting that under a folder called something like "Photographs of the children of form 1u at colchester zoo in september 2015" which is, again, under an equally descriptive folder name

So hot I couldn't sleep so I thought i'd start work at 6 and then go home and put my air conditioner on after lunch once my hours are done
-
I use something similar in my house (although with a passthrough plug so I can still use the socket)

No air con and windows don't open at all. It is very warm in here - if only they could legislate a maximum office working temperature

We're updating to win10 this summer but sticking with office 2013 as my manager doesn't want to change two things on them on in year. He's been told in the past that we change too much over the summer

We have a gym but nothing else (technically just outside the school grounds). later edit: One of the blighters is in my office!

Watched The X Files - Fight the Future movie at the weekend. I had seen it before but apparently had forgotten everything except the rescuing of scully near the end. (It was almost 20 years ago now) We are currently watching the tv series on amazon - since Christmas we have watched the first 5 seasons and the movie makes more sense when watching between seasons 5 and 6 as we did this time. The season six opener even had a "previously on the x-files..." bit referencing the events of the movie. (My husband was also quite glad of the season six recap of what the bees and corn were for) It's quite good if you like the x files because it is just a two hour long episode with a massive budget. Still enjoyable nonetheless but I feel I probably felt cheated by the cost of the ticket when i was 19

We use AT-GS 950/10PS with our R710s (also phones and cctv tingys) but not using every port but even if you needed two to run all 8 that would be much much cheaper than that.

SCCM Image Deployment - Massive Delay in Applying WIM
Sagima replied to Tefters's topic in O/S Deployment
Do you get the delay on a machine that isn't already in sccm's list of computers? (one that is picked up as an unknown) -
You can do that - we have it differently in different areas. some straight fro pc to desk speakers and some to wall speakers via the projector

We had a new school build which sent us down this route as well (they didn't want cables running everwhere). I only have experience with the Epson projectors and we haven't had any problems with the projectors or the image quality. We encountered one problem - staff not waiting for the projector to become network ready before trying to connect to it. Connecting isn't automatic - staff have to launch the epson easy network connect program and select the projector from the list (we have a profile set so each computer only sees the projector in its own room) - they don't have a problem with that bit. The epson projectors take about 20 seconds from being switched on to being ready - they display their network name and/or ip address when ready. It doesn't matter how often we tell them to wait for them - once a fortnight or so we'll get a call saying it isn't working when they just haven't waited for it to start up but it's never had any other problems. It does make it easy for staff with windows tablets who want to project their tablet (ios devices are limited to pictures and web pages) - we have one biology teacher who uses his macbook air. We have the main hall projector set up like this so staff/presenters can stand at the lectern with their device and wirelessly project onto the stage behind them The networked projectors can be managed remotely as well so you can check bulb life/status, turn them on/off and change input from your desk when people call to say it's not working. Sound, by default, is sent to the projector so if there's an audio out you can avoid the sound cables form the computers as well. It can be changed in the profile. Multiple screen require multiple projectors - they won't combine a dual screen. One projector per screen (you can have the same screen sent to multiple projectors although we haven't ever had a need)

Minimum Rights to Rollout Software via GPO
Sagima replied to RandomTech's topic in Windows Server 2012
I think you just need Domain Computers -
2nd update - changing access point from one of our 6 year old one to a new one fixed the frame dropping problem - works as smooth as cable now.

So, had quote, £7206.48 / year (inc vat) With education adjustment = £6551.35 /year Well that's far to much so I'll just rule out app and file stuff in the cloud completely. If I'm doing that I'm just going to come back to this in 12 months and see what's changed

Our backup servers are on the same 5 year replacement cycle as everything else. If we went cloudy for filestorage the "plan" was to maintain a replica with azure storage on another fileserver (using that server 2016 dfs-r replacement) and keep 1 dpm for backing that up. Currently we have 2 fileservers and 2 backup servers so halving that doesn;t grant me £7k a year spare for azure storage if that's what it costs.
