  1. Thank you all for your responses. I will not be copying anything and the discs have gone back to the teacher in question.
  2. I think I was expecting anniversary updates to LTSB each of which would get 10 year of updates. I didn't think they would just make someone nine years from now install the 2015 LTSB - I imagined a 2015LTSB then a 2016LTSB and so forth (maybe alternating years). Well hopefully we'll find out this year if that's that case
  3. That's what I thought but they want me to be able to point at something they can read in black and white as they say they are assuming responsibility by telling me to do it
  4. I'm sure I had read the answer on here before but having not found it could any of you point me to answers on the internet that sort these out: 1. Asked to copy an aqa cd that says on it may not be copied. Apparently I have to point out to something that can be referenced on the internet to say that it can't be copied by us 2. Is the person who does the copying committing the crime or is it the institution they work for. Again I need to point at something on the internet to verify either state of affairs I looked on the copyright and schools site but I couldn't find anything that seemed helpful - it used to be better than that I'm sure or I was remebering a different site.

    Stellaris

I've been playing with the normal-sized galaxy and 14 AIs and I don't consider it crowded. Attempted my first war on Saturday. sent my 3k strong fleet in and wiped out my opponent's presence in over half his systems before I ran out of ships and he retaliated catastrophicly(?) Started again and with a designer race this time - I'm having to form a long empire as I can;t expand above (3 other races) or below me (galactic edge)
  6. I'd probably do it with DFS. I've had it here for a while and although it takes ages to do its initial replications once it gets going it can be completely ignored.

5am today I realised I could fly to systems that I can't see the name of. I've been expanding my borders in order to see new systems up til now!
  8. Win10 Defender on my home pc
  9. We use the Clever audio / Sahara ones as well. Most of our classrooms have them in (that don't have smart board speakers)
  10. 1) My sccm server (running its own sql 2012) is CPU: 1x AMD 4234, RAM: 4x 4GB (16GB total), Disks 4x 600GB in RAID 10 (1.2TB). I keep everything on the SCCM server and it runs fine with that - runs the latest sccm version. Is suspect I might image a bit quicker now my network is 10gb if I had a better network card in it but Im not sure if the disks are up to it anyway. 40-45 minutes to image 24 machines at once (1 lesson basically) It gets replaced next year if my boss is willing - it's not going to be that much different though. Might go for 8 cores and double the ram (not using 1.2TB so probably get the same again unless he decides to let me have a 10gbe nic in which case ssd might be the choice.) It was during it's 2007 days just the old exchange and sql servers when they got upgraded. This one is the first purpose built one I've had. It also runs the cctv controller (for some reason) 2) yes but I've never done it - pretty sure it was discussed when I went on the 2007 and 2012 courses though. They have to be the same site I think though so youd have to stop using the lea one 3) well you learn another skill, I don't know if you gain much by having it onsite other than you will keep finding uses for it you might no notice when someone else is doing just what you ask for. It can inventory everything - you can query any machine about anything you want once you get used to the query builder. My boss likes the software metering so he can ask HoDs if the piece of software noone has launched in the last 2 years is really necessary (although teachers still swear blind it is) 4) I found the microsoft courses helped me out a great deal but if you just want to do imaging and software deployment you can pretty much work out 90% of that in a couple of days of youtube, windows-noob and itninja and never worry about anything else.
  11. Our aircon people came and told me the same thing a few weeks ago. It was fine with twice the number of servers in there three years ago but now it's not? I keep my server rooms at 22C. Your 27C might mean it's unpowered I suppose unless that's deliberate.

Started what is probably my fourth proper attempt last night. I always seem to start in a "corner" (well as much of a corner as you can have in a round galaxy) with two other powers blocking my way forward. I'm reluctant to properly engage them without knowing I'm superior and yet they stop me from being able to get to that point. Maybe I'll have to try starting with fewer opponents. Is there an optimal number any one has found for the 600 star default?
  13. I was asked if we could do it last year but as soon as I said "probably but it might cost you" they lost interest. We ended up just banning car sites so the kids couldn't see the girls spread across the bonnets
  14. All disks in raid 10 then partitioned is how I do mine.
  15. Epson EB585W or its interactive equivalent mostly. We do occasionally get ceiling mounted projectors but at the moment when we need one we are reusing those that have come from classrooms which have since acquired smart interactive displays
  16. Unlimited for staff. The Head was quite clear with us that he doesn't want staff to be forced to delete anything - he'd rather we just purchased more disk space.
  17. tether a laptop with it to your school-issued mobile and just check it still doesn;t work when bypassing your filter and firewall in case it is some odd setting that is being picked up.

I also bought stellaris yesterday - standard edition for £19.90. Finishing at 14.45 today and the husband is out for his cello practice tonight so I should be able to give the tutorial a good going over!

  20. Once you've done the backup, os install and file/share restore it will make a nice entry in your DR documentation But as the above has said - you can just upgrade the OS it won;t cause you any issues as long as it's not running exchange or something like that.

I agree! - if only I knew someone who could mod them in
  22. I have used NTLite from ( http://www.ntlite.com ) to amend my wims with extra drivers but it does more if you want to take a look
  23. I don't have much to do with Printing here (something I can delegate away from me so I try to as much as possible) but my less lucky junior colleague just sticks the printers in a gpo - Computer Configuration > Policies > Windows Settings > Deployed Printers / Printer Connections and then just attaches the required printer gpo to the required ou. edit: (5 minutes later) Turns out we also use a user script to add the followme and default printers so this might be less helpful than I thought
  24. I did find a disable keyboard and mouse in safemode thingy but I haven't tried it - you could do it with gpp maybe? How to disable Safe Mode in network environment - MyPcHealth Blog
  25. The subjects are switching in the email list - I have no idea why though
