  1. Watched Jurassic World at the weekend. Not awful and enjoyable enough but I think I preferred Jurassic Parks 1 and 3. They didn't make me like any of the characters enough to make we want any of them to survive and the ending was a bit/very poor considering the film had been better than ok up until that point. My husband commented at roughly the halfway point that the film he would like to see made would be Alien vs. Predator vs. Jurassic Park/World but the dinosaurs would have to be able to shoot lasers from their eyes to make it fair. I think his diet might be affecting his mind
  2. I've been sim only for a long time - firstly with giffgaff and then with virgin. Giffgaff had two outages while I was with them (between 2010 and 2014 I think) and virgin have had none and were slightly cheaper (I have their broadband). My husband also has a sim only virgin deal - he does the £5/month one as he doesn't use his phone much. Signal didn't seem to be any different when I moved from o2 (contract) to vodafone (contract) to giffgaff (monthly sim) to virgin (monthly sim) - I think this place is pretty evenly covered by the three main carriers.
  3. The CCNA course is good. It will be relevant to most of the switch brands as they all seem to base their os on ios. there's the odd difference but if you can do it in cisco's ios you'll easily adapt to whoever's equipment you are working with. I would recommend the networking over the microsoft courses but depending on how your training is set up you would probably benefit from the advanced server course Switch configuration is quite repetitive though - it's difficult to keep enthused about having to do the same thing to 40 switches
  4. The SYSVOL (and the NETLOGON) folder is automatically replicated with all of the other domain controllers. If replication is failing then that is something to have a look at quite urgently Really need to see the error message
  5. I get invalid attachment with that
  6. When I last did it the admx installer created a folder called policydefinitions that I copied to that location but if you want to copy the contents of policydefinitions into the policydefinitions folder you already have that will work just as well. That folder is where all of the group policies live
  7. It should unpack the definitions into your program files directory - just copy the policydefinitions folder to\\DOMAIN\SYSVOL\DOMAIN\Policies\ If it prompts for any overwrites just let it go on with it. If you still get group policy errors after that you may need to go and copy the chrome, office 2010/2013 (or anything else but they are the ones I use) ones into the same policydefinitions folder as well (if you use those and manage them via group policy)
  8. I would have thought you could just copy the group policy templates back into your central store (it looks like someone has deleted a few or that they became corrupt) The installer for the 2012r2/8.1 ones is here https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=43413 You could probably sue the windows 10 ones if you wanted - just copy them over what you already have.
  9. We install all of our own stuff (I use the word "we" as a collective for the whole of the estates and it teams - I don't do it myself) and do almost all of the ethernet and fibre cabling.
  10. We've only had two negative comments regarding the smart displays - 1) Can't freeze the display 2) bit small compared to their old smartboards. There are larger screens available now but I doubt we'll spend any extra and the school hates classrooms having different equipment in them.
  11. Board was about £2800 ex vat last year (we haven't gone shopping for quotes this year yet) - we swapped out a third of them and we planning on doing about half the remainder this year. We run them at 1080p - we had a go at seeing what we'd need to buy for the computers to run them at 4k but it was deemed too much. Their PCs are due for a refresh over the next two years so we'll see how much easier it is then.
  12. Our primary is replacing all of theirs with Smart 6065 interactive displays, the high school part never really feel in love with interactive whiteboards but the odd department (maths and modern languages) use them but they get replaced with a 88" whiteboard and an Epson EB-595Wi if they break now.

    DNS Issues

My first thought is you try a static ip or dhcp (whichever is the one that isn't being used) If you can ping the fqdn - then I would check that the dns primary suffix box is either empty or only has your domain in it (ipsettings>dns)
  14. I've seen something similar happen if the user doesn't have a default printer set - I didn't go as far as to check if it affected only certain types of word file though
  15. 2 DPMs in different areas of the school (opposite corners of the site)

    XCOM 2

Back at work after my 4 days off. Spent 57 hours of that playing Xcom2 since Friday night - probably too much but I really enjoy the game. Playing on Standard Difficulty Attempt 1: Blind stab at everything to figure out the basics (Friday night and Saturday morning). Played through the tutorial - hated it as much as the tutorial from the first xcom although it does help with some of the basics. Everyone was wounded to often and I didn't have enough people. Spent all my time doing sutopsies and not having enough supplies to build anything. Attempt 2: Try for some sort of strategy - built psi lab, forgot to build the guerilla training school for ages , still didn't have enough recruits, engineers or scientists and got killed far too quickly once mutons and robots showed up (Sunday and Monday). Decided black market was a waste of my time. Attempt 3: Ignore the main plot as much as possible, finally notice I can build a f***ing workshop to get some engineers, do misison for an extra half dozen recruits, do scientist and resources missions now I have enough engineers, build one of each of the non mission rooms - going much better (Tuesday - Thursday). Have ignored psionics completely so far - this may turn out to be a mistake but although having psionics was nice I preferred them as they were in the original xcom and not as an extra class of person. Only noticed yesterday evening about the continental bonuses - they seem a bit rubbish so not missed anything. Also noticed that you can ignore autopsies if you aren;t desperate for the tech they give up - they seem to become free/instant once you've killed enough of them. Plasma weapons and powered armour is brilliant but mag weapons and predator armour does perfectly well for ages - don;t be like me and sell corpses of things you need to build armour with!
  17. Disk2VHD would work fine. Personally I'd just create another DC and transfer the roles over.
  18. Thanks - that should do it for the domain machines. now to figure out the firewall to stop their own devices from doing it
  19. We have about 70 of them. 2 suites and the SMT offices We have had 0 problems with them, they are loved by all here. We did have to buy a couple of usb hubs and usb dvd drivers for the smt offices but nothing extra in the suites. We got Dell's 3020m cheaper last year so we got those that time but we'd get them again if the price was right.
  20. I've never seen burn in on a screen in real life (just pictures) We have a mix of LG, Cello and Sony TVs here. They are on 10 hours a day most days. The one in the dining hall just has each day's menu on it
  21. Yesterday I was having a brillian day, today I'm struggling even with remembering the words I mean to type (lt alone typing them). Would one of you mind letting me know which group policy will block access to network connections or at the very least vpn creation (and if you know a firewall rule to block them I wouldn;t mind knowing that)? many thanks

    XCOM 2

Preordered xcom 2 yesterday and booked next week off on leave (completely unrelated events honest)
  23. I thought that meant with the remaining discount that stood at that time. So not at today's prices but at the prices that it moved to in july 2017 but before the discount disappears completely in july 2018 but to be able to hold that little bit of remaining discount for a further 3 years
  24. We have 30 odd. They do the job and other than our primary teachers' uncanny ability to break the paper trays they are pretty reliable. We have papercut and use our door access cards to release prints from them. Most of the time they come the same day to fix the problems but there aren't that many. Our current contract is up for renewal in the summer but we aren;t looking to change the printer brand when we do
  25. We were asked a few weeks ago to come up with some contingency planning for our department. One of the things we needed an answer for was "What would you do if you budget was suddenly halved?" - this little surprise from Microsoft may lead us to actually formulate an answer to that (it may also answer the "what would you do with a one off £250k donation?")
