Hi I'm going to go straight to the point, Now I've been aware of this problem for a while but surely there must be a way round it!!! but how I can set file permissions on multiple files / folders at one time. I have got to re organise a few shared folders with different permissions but I don't fancy spending hours on it when I know it can be done within minutes. I know I could do this with Windows server 2003 but since the release of 2008 they removed this. does anyone know how to get the security tab back when you highlight multiple folders or a program that will do the same job?? thanks

Hello, We've suddenly encountered an error in FMS which says the following: Unknown table type. Permission denied. File C:\PDOXUSRS.NET Anyone know why this has happened and how to fix it please? Cheers

I'm new to AD and could use some help. What are the minimum rights needed to a file share containing software being rolled out by GPO? Do you have to grant user rights to that directory or can just domain computers have an assignment? Is one or the other better practice? Our users are logged in locally to the desktops as just local users, what needs done so they have the correct rights or access to install said software? Does that matter since the app is being pushed via GPO?

Hi guys & gals Come across a bit of a weird issue today whereby I have one device that will not connect into the users home drive. These are mapped by GPO, never had any issues; now we just get the old “M:\ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.”. I have seen this before but it is usually that I have missed a character in the UNC path. On further inspection it will let me map directories above the one for which I get that message. I have tried different users and the problem persists on that device for each user. I have reapplied (forced) the GPOs and even tried removing it from the network and adding it back on fresh. I have a workaround in that if I use the IP address of the server rather than the Server name it works fine. This would therefore point to a DNS issue. I have checked IP and DNS settings all look fine. I have changed them and then reverted the change just for good measure. I have flushed the DNS and checked the DNS on the server, which seems fine. This issue isn't replicated to other devices, so clearly seems to be some kind of issue with DNS on that device I would think. Also disabled firewall on both device and server to test whether either was blocking. As I say I have a workaround, but I don't like workarounds I like working. My coffee-starved, post Christmas Do little brain can't think of much else to try. Anyone experienced this weird behavior before?

Hello, The pupils have files saved onto their Mac desktops and they're in the process of copying them to their home directory on the Windows server via the SMB share mount. When they try to copy .mov, iMovie or MP3 files, they're asked for the local admin password of the Mac before it can be transferred, otherwise access is denied. Copying of photos, word documents, etc works without the password. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, I work for a computer lab at a university, we're having some problems with Microsoft Word for macs. First is with the setup assistant, on some accounts the setup assistant will continually crash and prevent word from starting, this sucks because the students need word to complete their work. Another problem is that microsoft word is having trouble with autosave, when people try to save their documents, an error message appears saying that there was a save error and they don't have permission to save. Both of these problems seem to be related to file permissions. I've been fiddling with workgroup manager on the lab server for the past few hours and can't find a lifeline for this. I've been given a deadline of a few days to solve this. Thanks for any help. More information can be provided as necessary
