I use TSGui - it allows me to type in the name, though it does present me with the current name, if it's a rebuild. I also have a drop down list to select room, which becomes a variable within the TS. This allows me to add the machine to the correct OU and install room specific software within the TS. If there is a typo I just wait for the machine to finish building and rename it.

I go to Monitoring - Deployments, and find the task sequence deployment. If you haven't set any step in the TS to continue on error any machines you see in the Success panel have completed. If you have set anything to continue on error, double click the machine and click on Status - you'll find the build log. There might be a better way, but I find this gives an overview quite well.

We use role (Classroom ©, Admin (A) or Teacher (T)), room number, asset number so C-12-3456. I can use conditions based on the machine name is SCCM to deploy specific software to Registration or Admin machines, based purely on the first letter of the name. Grouping machines by classroom in Impero is seamless due to the location being in the name, and staff can report an issue with a particular machine by reading the number off the side. I've never seen the logic of including the model in the machine name - with the asset number I can look it up in seconds, and if I need to know how many of a particular model are in the school, I just create a device collection in SCCM.

Looks like it's time to stick that machine into an OU of it's own, disable inheritance and try one GPO at a time. There must be something blocking things.

Any WMI filters stopping policies being applied?

Is the remote registry service running on the client? Failing that, could you enable Group Policy editor on the client machine temporarily?

Would Registry Wizard work for you - you need to be able to browse to the folder, on your machine or another machine, but you should then be able to tick all the entries and they are all imported

Computer Configuration - Preferences - Windows Settings - Registry. New Registry Item, and fill in from there. If the export exists on the machine you're running Group Policy Editor on, you can simply browse to it.

We deploy SIMS, but not Solus. I have an application for each of the SIMS executables - SIMS Infrastructure, SIMS Application, SIMS AMPark and SIMS Manuals. For each of them the Detection method references the setup.log (or pulsar.exe in the case of SIMS Application) with a date modified equal to or greater than. We then deploy them to a group of computers called, conveniently SIMS Machines. Each time we update SIMS on the server we modify the Date Modified. SCCM then pushes out SIMS overnight to the workstations. It rarely fails. The applications can easily be added to a TS, of Course.

How about creating a folder on the hard drive of each machine, to which they have write access and redirecting the desktop to that folder? That way the generic account can still be used, but each instance will redirect to a unique location. Remove write access to, or hide the locations you don't want them to save to.
