Any recommendations? The monthly cost of some of these can’t be justified for doing the odd bit from home occasionally. I was using teamviewer but they’re on to me now [emoji23]

Have you tried a gpresult on the machine in question?

Same here. Works pretty much flawlessly. And I haven’t had to do any additional configuration aside from group policy.

I think this may come in very handy at some point in the future so I’ll thank you in advance.

There is a registry fix for this issue. I’ll see if I can dig it out

Hi guys, I’ve set all this up with 2016 admx templates and ran a gpresult and also policy modelling. Everything seems to point to it applying correctly to the user yet it has no effect. All the proofing works as expected. Does anybody have any suggestions please? All I can think of at this point is we have 2013 admx templates too and maybe this is causing an issue.

I agree with wagnerk. The way I see it, if a recruiter has to choose between 2 candidates both with experience but one is also certified, who do you think they would pick. So why not be the person with the certificate? If you are very competent in a product or field - then surely it doesn’t hurt to have this added advantage?

Saw something similar a while back and it ended up being an issue with the network and/or local service on the machine. Something to do with permissions if i remember Correctly

The MAC address isn’t blacklisted (can’t remember the proper term) on the DHCP scope is it? You could install wireshark in the client and sniff the packets to see if it’s sending/receiving the DHCP discover/ack/request packets

Have you looked into always-on vpn or directaccess although that has been deprecated I think. Other options are some other form of remote access or perhaps offline files (I wouldn’t recommend that though)

My personal opinion is that I won’t touch personal devices unless sanctioned by the school and I don’t offer warranties or work outside of my contracted hours unless it benefits me. No room for sentiment with me - it’s all strictly business. The reason being is I can see all the money they squander on b*****t stuff and how school resources are abused. If they want me to work out of hours, they have to pay for it.

Give them an inch and they will take a mile... Bottom line is this: be it commercial or education or a charity - in the end they’re all businesses in one way or another, some make profit others don’t. You are employed by these organisations to oversee and administer their IT services. They need to specify what you should spend your time doing as they are paying for your time and expertise/knowledge. If they would rather you spent time neglecting the infrastructure and school owned kit and prioritised personal devices, that’s up to them. So put the ball in their court, your time is their money.

+1 We’re in exactly the same situation. Have replaced mice/keyboards 4 times in one room alone since September! Have raised concerns before and don’t even get a response. Raised it again today - will wait to see what happens but at the moment we have left rooms in disrepair until we get a clear answer of what we’re supposed to do. Most of us in our team are fairly new to the school and it seems the staff here are accustomed to having replacements without any questions. The only thing that concerns them is that their class for that period should run smoothly. What kind of example does that set to the kids ffs?

You have to login to the server where groupcall is installed and start the groupcall Xporter dashboard and I think you can delete the jobs in there.

Yeah I found them to be very amateurish for an organisation that has such a wide reaching ‘audience’. Considering they’ve been doing this for some time too, there doesn’t seem to be some proper longer term planning about it.

Use GPP and don’t create a shortcut yourself - let group policy do it. As DaveP said, place the just the icon in a central share and when creating the preference item, point to the icon. GPP will create the shortcut making use of the icon and place it on the desktop.

You only need to do the first bit - extending the schema- and then relatively straightforward using powershell. I couldn’t do it in the gui
