Starting from 7th December 2020 - Full Time Position Salary £29,000 per annum There is a vacancy for the position of ICT Services Coordinator at one of the most prestigious UTC’s in the country having been awarded Outstanding in all areas. Energy Coast UTC is on the west coast of Cumbria and specializes in Engineering and Construction taking students from 14 to 19 years old. The college is expanding with a new building and is about to begin construction in readiness for April 2022. This will provide state of the art workshops for our students as well as Cad Rooms with high end workstations. You will be responsible for maintaining the current network infrastructure and the day to day IT tasks that all schools and colleges have. The new building will have its systems integrated with the main building and it is anticipated the current network infrastructure will be refreshed/updated in line with modern thinking and layouts. This is an exciting opportunity with a relatively small user base of staff and students. It has a very friendly atmosphere with a progressive forward thinking Principal. The position is for 37 hours per week with an early finish on Fridays. Please enquire using the email address below. Website: https://www.energycoastutc.co.uk/ Enquiries: [email protected]

Yes there was terms and conditions attached. I've just had word from our iPad supplier and they state that as the paid iPads are using the MDM and insured via the scheme then those iPads are bound by the same terms and conditions as the leased iPads at home or in school. Thank you all for your replies. On another note the scheme has got off to a good start, I was very skeptical at the beginning and there is a long way to go but so far so good.

Hi All, We have literally just rolled out our first iPad scheme to the first year group. Many parents opted to buy the iPads fully with one payment instead of doing it monthly. All the iPads are managed by an MDM until the end of the scheme. One of the deputy heads has claimed that legally the kids with the fully paid iPads should have unrestricted access to the iPad at home. This obviously has issues where the kids can download whatever they want at home and its there on their iPads in school. I've been in touch with our MDM but they can't do a scheduled restriction service (restrictions off at home and then back on again in school). Currently I have asked for the App store to be blocked at all times. Just wondering how others get on and if legal stuff is correct. Many Thanks

Recording Phone Calls
WestCoastCumbria replied to WestCoastCumbria's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
This is how we would be using it, ad-hoc with limited staff. Thanks for the info. -
Hi All, We are about to switch to VOiP phone system and one option we have is to record calls which would be for student support staff only. Would we need to specify on the auto attendant that calls maybe recorded or is it enough to have some kind of privacy notice on our website? Its mainly for safeguarding issues and dealing with angry parents that claim our staff were rude, abusive etc. Thank You

Yes this is how the scheme works for us as well and it sounds like it's the same boat we are in. I can't see payments suddenly starting up again so I think a letter saying what they owe or the laptop needs to be returned will be the better option. I do fear that a fair number may ignore that as well. if we can get 90% back that will be great as the laptops are of a decent spec so still hold some value.

Hi there, I've inherited two laptop 1:1 schemes for students that was implemented a couple of years ago and then largely forgotten about. Simply put the laptops are from a leasing company with a separate company handling the payments from the parents, Gift Aid is used as well and the school has just paid the Residual Value for the first scheme which has just ended. We have a lot of parents that have stopped their monthly payments (donations) well before the scheme ends, some have only contributed to half the amount or less. It seems legally there is not a lot that can be done about it but I wondered if there was any recourse in getting the laptops back to the school? I assume the first scheme laptops are now the schools property as the lease has finished. Any insight gratefully received. Thank you

Procurement requirements for 1:1 scheme

If it does go ahead we will be looking at full support with an MDM, Apple School Manager, cases, insurance, basically whatever it takes to make it seamless and working. BUT need staff and parents onboard!! -
Procurement requirements for 1:1 scheme
WestCoastCumbria replied to WestCoastCumbria's topic in Licensing Questions
Looking into it a bit further it seems legally there is a procedure to follow but we are under the OJEU limit. -
Hello, We may be going for 1:1 iPad scheme at around 330 iPads which will be leased. The total cost will be over £100,000 does that trigger the procurement policy for four tenders? Thank You.

Cisco ASA 5500 Licence (End of Life/Sale)- HELP!
WestCoastCumbria replied to DerbyUTC's topic in Licensing Questions
That's the exact position we're in at another UTC. Overly complex build, lots of money put into it then left alone to whither, everything is Cisco (quality stuff indeed) but no ongoing service contracts and I'm no Cisco expert so I can't manage half of it. We're ditching our ASA 5525 for Sophos XG UTM, much better suited for our needs. -
