I don’t know if GP was developed with a degree of flexibility in mind or not but that’s is what it provides. By that I mean I’ve always found people do it differently and to a great extent it all depends on your AD structure and also generally how your network is setup. I don’t think there is a single correct way to do things and that’s perhaps part of the power of group policy. In context, I certainly wouldn’t do it like your predecessor has. Definitely not the ‘least administrative effort’ and doesn’t look like he leverages the flexibility of group policy at all - in most cases it’s a mix and match of group memberships & OU based policies.

+2 for azure connect. Password changes kick off an immediate sync

+1 I found a few errors when setting up the SQL server but mostly ok. Make sure you don’t just glaze over it though. Of course, the initial setup is the easy bit [emoji846]

Could it be windows firewall on wherever your offline files/redirection are hosted?

I would check DCHP just in case your WiFi MAC address is being denied a lease although if this was the issue then you wouldn’t be able to access anything as soon as you pulled out the Ethernet lead and it tried to connect to WiFi(?) [emoji848] Or have you run out of leases maybe? Are you using Radius authentication?

In short, absolutely yes. The only thing I think you can’t do is manage the jobs from a remote backup proxy.

Windows server backup is too basic/restrictive when it comes to scheduling. As a free option it’s ok but I would rather use the community edition of veeam if I was looking for free alternatives

You need to reconfigure your azure Ad connect tool/ADsync to include group. This should help: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/hybrid/how-to-connect-sync-configure-filtering We have it configured and assign licences based on membership of specific groups. Once configured, licence assignment is pretty much automated.

Re: going to the gym in the morning. It’s just mindset mate. I used to think I would be too achy and stiff to be able to work out that early but actually a five-minute run or other warmup will loosen you up and it’s fine after that. Plus you’re fresher in body and mind in the morning which makes for a very productive workout. Give it a shot, I loved it but my current gym doesn’t open early enough for me to be able to go in the mornings anymore.

Thing is, I want direct access to my PC rather than having to VPN to a server and then RDP to my PC. Can this be done easily with built-in services on a windows 10 machine? I’m not so sure

+1 for Cunninghams. Also as @Sylv3r has said, biostore have now have their own offering and may have encroached on Cunninghams turf and as a result Cunninghams now also offer their own suite of ‘tools’ in response. At least this was what I was told, somebody correct me if I’m wrong.

Tried resetting the network stack? It maybe quicker to rebuild if you can’t find a solution.

We use LTSB(1607) and have recently started deploying LTSC which is 1809. Not had any issues with software not working so far, doesn’t come with any bloatware and has all the features that our users need. We’ve had no issues at all. Even files on demand is working through the one drive client.

I found that docker stops working if you log out, I tried to install it as a service but didn’t go well if memory serves my right

Yeh I've noticed recently that printing PDFs in within chrome through paper cut is ok if you use the chrome print dialog, if you click the advanced button and use the regular windows print dialog, paper cut fails to intercept the job.

I'm going to try with VNC first as it's more of a ready made solution but will deffo keep this thread as a reference. Thanks all
