  1. Hi, We have previously always had cached exchange mode turned off when we had on-site exchange. We turned it off as when staff roamed it would take too long to update their local OST/PST files. They would have email on PC1, move to PC2 and it wouldn't be their until 500meg was synced! We haven't tried this will O365 but I guess its the same? Firstly does anyone have cached exchange mode enabled successfully for teaching staff using office 365? Does anyone have their ost/pst files roaming with their roaming profiles? Ive read that this isn't supported by ms. Thanks in advance
  2. The eBay Caddies fitted perfectly
  3. Thanks for the replies, not heard of pfsense before. some googling brings me to mini hardware and some to an open source firewall? would you please mind elaborating? I was after zero cost if possible and have hardware that could install Squid on? Thanks again
  4. Can anyone please help us out here... Exchange 2013 CU7 Computers in AD - Autodiscover works perfectly, email pre-entered, next, ok and there all set as normal Home computers - Email and passwords manually entered, one windows authentication pop-up and all set. On Premises workgroup PCs - email and password entered, we get two of the three green ticks and then "The name could not be matched to a name in the address list" ? When testing with exchange connectivity tests all is fine. We have split DNS setup and all entries entered point to the exchange server. Can anyone please suggest what could be causing this or where we should start to look?? were stumped! Thanks in advance
  5. Hi, At our secondary we use Smoothwall and VLANs to give us transparent proxies mainly used for BYOD. We have just installed a small ubiquity managed wireless system at a smaller primary we support. County who provide the internet feed require proxy (anonymous) details to be entered to browse the web. Just server and port. I've tested today using wpad to deploy a proxy with DCHP only to learn that many android/ios mobile devices need additional setup on the device to get it working. Is there a quick way that we can provide a transparent proxy setup for mobile users without the purchase of smoothwall or simular etc? Thanks in advance.
  6. Thanks for the replies everyone, we are going to setup a mapped drive as sonofsanta suggested for the IT Suites. Thanks again
  7. Hi, Previously we setup PHP on a test internal web server and allowed the BTEC students to FTP their PHP code to it, allowing them to test their code. The IT teacher has said that as the FTP either within Dreamweaver or the FTP client they had access to previously was a lot of fuss. I can kind of see their point. What they have requested is that PHP be installed on each IT student machine so that they can test and code without having to FTP files around etc. Wouldn't this require a webserver on each machine? involve installing IIS/PHP and configure on each machine? I can see it becoming a nightmare before even looking into it further. Could I please ask, what do you guys do for PHP? Thanks in advance!
  8. Hi Matt, Have you got your ntfs permissions on the top level folder and your home share setup correctly? Looks outdated but I think the permissions are how we have ours set: http://blog.luxem.org/2010/07/how-to-setup-home-directories-on.html?m=1
  9. It does and thanks for the reply.
  10. As Microsoft (for years!) have been guiding everyone away from the use of Public folders, can anyone please recommend any ideas to replace the way that we use Public Folders? We have a script that adds 3x mail enabled public folders to Outlook for all staff members. These are used for "Urgent Staff Notices", "Heads Notices" and "Daily Bulletins" These are available there and then to everyone from within Outlook at a quick glance as they are always there at the top left in Outlook. We didn't want staff to have to load any additional webpages or log into any other system, we just wanted them there straight away without any additional work at a glance! Does anyone please have an alternative suggestion please? We are currently a hybrid setup and I would rather avoid the Microsoft exchange/O365 hybrid PS1/CSV PF solution! Thanks in advance

  12. Did you ever find a way to do this petben? we have mail enabled public folders used for "Daily Bulletins" etc. they need to be updated on prem and in ex online....?
  13. Hi, Just wondered what you guys did for your students with mailboxes in the cloud for when they forget their password? DirSync if I remember updates Azure every 3 hours, so do you force a sync? Update the PW in the cloud and enable AD writebacks? Something else? Thanks in advance!! Ex 2013CU7/Hybrid/Office 365
  14. Hi, I am looking for a script to check an email account and extract all attachments to a network share? Has anyone please by any chance already got or seen anything like this? My initial searches led me to the "Get-IMAP" command and then... Get-IMAP -AttachmentDirectory "C:\temp\Attachments" -User $user -Password $password -Mailbox INBOX -Server $server -view $msgId But im hoping not to have to re-invent the wheel if someone already does this! Thanks in advance
  15. I would look at an SSL cert from Ja.Net. Your county support should be able to get one for you for around £35 instead of the full £150-£200
  16. Hi Norphy Could I please ask how you are setup for students to automatically connect to O365? We have O365 and Office 2013. We have DirSync setup so they login to the network with the same credentials as they would login to O365. I was hoping that they would automatically login to all the Office 2013 packages. But they have to "Add a Place" and log in again! Was there something you did to get this sorted please?
  17. thank you, I did come across the jquery scroller and we used to use on our old website. But could this have the randomness or stopping that we are after?
  18. Hi Meldrew, Ive PMed you my details if you don't mind. Many thanks
  19. Hi, We have awards for various occasions in assemblies, for example there was a tablet awarded to one randomly picked from a selection of students with 100% Attendance in each year. What we have done is for each student with 100% attendance, is create a PowerPoint with each students photo and name on a seperate slide and set it to auto advance with a delay of 0.01sec. When the PowerPoint is presented the slides quickly spin through. With the student photos scrolling the head will hit S to stop the PowerPoint at a random (winning) student. This looks pretty good but its a right pain having to create the PowerPoint each time. As we did it once before (and made it look so much better than it was previously done), it is now our task and is taking quite a bit of time to setup each slide/PowerPoint. Could I ask, does anyone do anything differently? Is there an available program or web script that randomly picks an image from a folder? Something like on "Ant and Dec's Saturday night takeaway" where the audience photos just cycles through and it slows to one winner would be ideal. I've google for all the Selector Tools, or Random generator flash programs I could find but they are pretty poor! Student Photos dumped into a web hosted folder and a script to rotate through slowing down to one photo would be the easiest and best solution I can think of. Thanks in advance.
  20. Don't underestimate time for your DNS changes requests and requests for SSLs.... Two weeks is our counties SLA time so we are stuck waiting for the final organisation DNS verification to finish our hybrid setup. If we were waiting in the summer then 2 weeks would be a long wait!!!
  21. Have you used either of these Arthur, might have a play with one of our primary school networks. Any recommendations?
  22. Hi, Yeah you can do it with GPO but as you say it's unsafe. It was safe using group policy preferences. Maybe see this? http://m.windowsitpro.com/powershell/resetting-local-administrator-password-computers
  23. Hi, I think up until very recently you could do this safely with group policy preferences but it was removed in an update as it was seen as a vulnerability. I think you can still do it with a PowerShell script. I had a look but can't find it, there was definetly one on edugeek. I think it may have come from one of Arthurs posts?
  24. Dell said anything produced before late 2013 will need a FW update. These are 5 x 146gb 15k SAS produced 2008 I think.
