thx guys.. but, how do i know which supply leaked the passwords? as they all share one account and sometimes we have several supplys in a day Mark, We also use locked down supply account in the admin controller, I have just been off the phone to Serco and there can only be one account like this.... Do all your supplys share the account? They are sending the "enhancment team" my request for either multiple high level supply accounts, or the ability to restrict teacher type eportal acounts.... but for now this wont help !

We are currently having trouble with supply teachers disclosing the logins for both the supply network account, and more importantly the supply Eportal login !!! When this happens the password spreads through the kids like wildfire and it is impossible to track down which supply leaked it as we have upto 10 supply teachers.... In Eportal you can only have 1x Supply (locked down) account We could setup say 10x teacher accounts named Supply01 - Supply10 but these teacher accounts cannot be locked down. The built in Supply account is pretty well locked down, but the teacher accounts are not, allowing all the students (and teachers) personal details... Just wondered how other schools delt with Supply teachers.. Serco just say "setup several teacher accounts for them" but if these supply teachers havent the brain to keep a login confidential then i dont want to be trusted with my home phone number/address !!!! Its a dual Xeon 3ghz with 3gig ram, all other printers are fine, im pretty sure its not the server. Only these 4 printers are problematic, the spooler only crashes when printing webpages ? And only freezes when the spooler is turned off and large documents are sent. Only one other person on Google has the same problem Firmware Version Main Firmware Version : 2.21 10-16-2006 NIC Firmware Version : V2.01.43(NPC3H) Engine Firmware Version : 2.17.00

Thanks for replies, They are running from a dedicated print server running 2k3 sp2 enterpirse. The workstations are all XP.. Could it be a paper size setting or something silly like that? Could it be that the way i have setup every network printer be incorrect? To install the printer on the server, i simply: 1) Add printer 2) select "Local printer attached to this computer" 3) Create a new port, called clp-600_xxx using the printers IP 4) Add the driver 5) Fill in details and share name With one of the printers I have just tried using the disk that came with the printer, it set the printer up, but i then also got all the junk that it installed with it. Hi, We have 4 x Samsung CLP-600 printers in the school. Every single one has the same problem, so i dont think its a hardware problem. When somebody tries to print a webpage it crashes the print spooler, the job que just builds up and the only way to resolve this is to restart the printer spooler service.... (not v good when admin have que`s waiting to print on other printers) Has anyone seem anything like this before? All other 35 printers are fine? Speaking to samsung was like trying to speak to a brick wall!!! I have the latest drivers from the samsung website, and the printer is setup as in the pic below... The one way that i can enable them to print kind of ok, is if i select "Print Directly to the printer" instead of to the spooler. This is no good as they are then unmanaged and large jobs seem to fail. Its driving me nuts !!!! Pls help, Any ideas ??

wowzers !! We have a really tight GP for the laptops, no way would they be given admin rights! Not only would it mean that they would probably create software problems (not knowing what they are doing) but they would install unlicenced software etc etc. There isnt anything that they cant do (that they are allowed to)..... We rarey have problems with laptops, only with the dreaded m$ syncronization. Do you guys not have as we call "fiddlers" who want all thier software on there? what happens if they do mess it up? I bet there is no punishment. Just means work for ICT dept.

Even with modfiy they can still change/view permissions i think mate. "The owner can always change permissions even when they are not granted the permission to change permissions or even denied it"

thx for the replies guys. The students cannot browse other users folders They cannot browse the year folder as they have no permission on it. Redirection is allready setup as in the pic below, this is the Default_Student Policy. Just noticed on the "Setting" i also have "Grant the user Exclusive Rights to documents" and the bottom selection checked? Could you please let me know how your structures are? ie. \\Server\Student_Drives(shared y/n/$ & permissions)\Year(shared y/n/$ & permissions)\Username(shared y/n/$ & permissions) "I always give users Full Control of their folder" Do you set full control to "this folder only" ? do they have full control of their files? i.e view/change permissions? as I dont want the students messin` I will have a play today sharing out the Students Homedrive hidden.. Whatever i do i cant seems to stop the students having permission to view/change permission on thier files and folders!! (as shown below) As soon as they own the file/folder they get to change the permissions. EDIT: Fixed by ZeroHour, There is a setting in the GP to hide the Security Tab.... Doh Thanks again

Yes for every server you need a client licence. Hence why it wont let u backup over mapped shares I think when we bougbht it, it came with the software licence and then one client licence... The client licences are cheap for schools

Hi All, On our school network, the home drive setup on the NAS drive im sure has not been setup the best way it could be.... The Current setup is: \\NAS\Students\Year\Username The only share setup is on the main Student_drives folder, and this only has everyone NTFS permissions are also show below, only admin in there. Same for the Year folders they only have ntfs permissions for Admin/domain admin, and no share files. On the Students folder they have no share, and NTFS they have admin and there username. Nowhere is any mention of "creator owner" and none of the shares are hidden. See attached below Im having quite a few problems with this setup, 1) With Office 2007 when they try to navigate to there home drive, office crashes, the way ive temp fixed it is to add "traverse folders" for "Students" on the "Student_Drives" share... 2) When students create a new file, they then are the "owner" of this file, and thus they get automatically "change and view permissions" even though its not checked or even denied. This means the sneaky ones will try and change all their permissions trying to deny the admin etc. and also messing up folders, meaning i have to fix it all. 3) The Staff drives are setup the same, and laptop users get "Access Denied" on every single offline file when they try to synronize!! Microsoft said: "To configure a share so that users can synchronize with a subfolder under the Home$ share, grant all of the users at least Read permissions on the Home folder" so i added staff to the "Staff_drives" folder (the only folder shared) and it seemed to fix it... All this tells me that my drives shares arent set up correctly? Can anyone please help

nope each file is 10gig instead of 1gig as before. we backup about 260gig. its installed on a server, each other server it is backing up has a client installed on it.

Hi mate, Dont give up !!! we have backup exec 11d and are currently backing up to a 1tb terrastation while our NAS is out for repair....!! what would you like to know? "Managed to Map the TERASTATION USING THE \\IP\SHARE.." Sorted If you are getting "File does not contain a valid install image" on your imagex wim, then it is probably permissions on the distribution folder.. I had this but sorted it by grant yourself permission on the distribtion folder as both local and domain admin...
