Self Service Password Reset
burgemaster replied to plexer's topic in EduGeek Self Service Password Reset
No mate, all still still work fine. Password gets changed. Ive only tested this from using the Admin Console, should i be testing these as a student reseting the password themselves?? One other thing, ive noticed if i restrict (deny NTFS access) for students to my xml containing the pass/username, then they get a 500 IIS error and they cannot load any of the ASP pages?? -

Self Service Password Reset
burgemaster replied to plexer's topic in EduGeek Self Service Password Reset
We have just gone live with this at our school it is working fine, BUT when a password is reset the account remains LOCKED OUT. Is there any way that you guys could add the code to UNLOCK the account on a password reset? Maybe add a button to unlock on the admin menu? OR, is this supposed to also unlock the account but i have permission problem on the designated account? Thanks in advance -
We have a School Calender in our "Public folders" Only a few people can edit and all staff can view We also now have Science Calender, Pastoral Calenders etc, that only the departments can see. The other staff dont even know they are there as they are not visable. Very easy to setup and manage.

what happens when students/staff leave? Are they to be trusted that they have removed the software? What happens if your CD and serial that the kids used to install get on the internet? Or is this no longer our concern? Cheers Tim

We are looking to cut down on the amount of MP3 and SWF in students areas. Off the top of anyones heads, do you think it would be easy to run a script that would list all the SWF and MP3 in our students drives, but not list anything that is in thier "ICT Work" or "Music Work" folders. and also Visa Versa ? So once i have deleted all the files from thier home drives, the teacher can then have a regular log of all the SWF located in the ICT Work folders? Thanks in advance

A temporary profile is loaded after you log on to a Windows Vista-based system
-
I had this problem, when vista came out. I ended up re-installing. But i had it again recently and found that you can no longer just delete their local profile in Vista, you also need to remove the users profile from the registry... Computer\HKey_local_machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList You have to match your SID, but if you click through them you can easily see who`s is whos There is now an M$ article somewhere if i can find it Good luck

Rename 2008 DC and Safety of Print Management?
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows Server 2008
Thanks for the input, doesnt the 2008 print management console support the install of all x86 & 64drivers? http://blogs.technet.com/blogfiles/askperf/WindowsLiveWriter/InstallingWindowsVistaPrintDriversonWind_7714/PrintDrivers004_140f51e1-7ee9-46a4-9b6e-e8651da1cf5d.jpg Good idea about the hyper-v Thanks -
Hi all, A computer stopped loading the printers (through GP) so i looked in the event Log and saw event 1090 This i usually fix with a simple script: net stop winmgmt cd /d %windir%\system32 regsvr32 /n /I userenv.dll cd wbem mofcomp scersop.mof its all to do with WMI, anyway this didnt work and im now getting: Provider Load Failure, when trying "Group Policy Results" and also ERROR: Access Denied, when running GPresult from cmd I could quite easily rebuild this machine, but i wondered if anyone else has a solution, maybe for next time? Any advice please? http://i39.tinypic.com/2hpuiz9.jpg

Rename 2008 DC and Safety of Print Management?
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows Server 2008
Thanks for the replies, If we have 3 DC`s then if DC3 did ever need a reboot, wouldnt this mean that DC1/2 would take over? Also, we have never (that i can remember) had to reboot our current print server due to print problems, in maybe 4 years. Only have to restart the spooler service ? Any one please know if a Read only DC would be better in this case or whether 64bit Print Management is back compatable with all print drivers? Cheer -
Hi all, We have recently added a new 64bit 2008 DC to our 2003 forest, it is named DC3 and it was going to be purely an extra DC... but After having setting up a Vista ICT Suite, i have had to installed the print management console onto it to deploy them printers (long storey!) Firstly, is there any danger installing the PMC on a DC ? Would it be better is the DC was a RODC ? Secondly, my plan is to migrate all the current xp/2003 printers from our 2003 print server, onto this 64bit 2008 server... Would it be possible to firstly rename DC3 to PRINT and then install all the xp printers/drivers onto it. Are there any problems running xp/2k3/32bit drivers on a 64bit 2008 print server ? Thanks in advance

I spent a long time making an MSI for truecrypt, has that MSI been there for long lol? I just installed the MSI from the souceforge site and it doesnt seem to work as it doesnt install the driver? (checked on Vista) I think my MSI ONLY installed the driver and they could then run truecrpyt in portable mode? Its been a while, and after hours of work, only 2 people ever brought memory sticks to me.. but hey

Script to check if webpage/Eportal is working?
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Scripts
Thanks for replies, The services dont actually stop, but they do require a restart when eportal slows right down or grinds to a halt. I bought a brand new server with fresh install of 2k3 enterprise, and installed the latest release of eportal but it is doing exactly the same as the old server with previous release. There is nothing in the system or app logs when this happens and the only log is a warning: The system failed to register host (A) resource records (RRs) for network adapter with settings: Adapter Name : {CF571E43-8A62-43AA-A8D3-DE8430E21849} Host Name : eportal Primary Domain Suffix : Xxxxxx.local DNS server list : XX.XX.4.21, XX.XX.4.20 Sent update to server : XX.XX.4.21 IP Address(es) : XX.XX.4.28 The reason the system could not register these RRs was because of a security related problem. The cause of this could be (a) your computer does not have permissions to register and update the specific DNS domain name set for this adapter, or (b) there might have been a problem negotiating valid credentials with the DNS server during the processing of the update request. You can manually retry DNS registration of the network adapter and its settings by typing "ipconfig /registerdns" at the command prompt. If problems still persist, contact your DNS server or network systems administrator. For specific error code, see the record data displayed below. For more information, see Help and Support Center at Events and Errors Message Center: Basic Search. any ideas? -
At the moment eportal (our web based MIS system) is a pile of rubbish being polite...! It is constantly crashing and needing the eportal services rebooted, Serco cant help us... I was wondering if anyone knew of a script that would check that the webpage is loading every 5min or so and if its down, then email or notify me somehow?] like some sort of website ping ? Cheers
